your current requirements for positioning of the head rest on car seats sucks. it is uncomfortable to the point of being a safety hazard. the fact that it cannot be removed increases the problem. change it.

AIR BAGS

first noticed a crease in rear seat side airbags caused by rear door panel resting on it rather than having clearance. after the door had been opened/closed through use over a period of only 6 months, it is beginning to rub a possible hole in the material containing the airbag. dealership service manager had never seen before and subsequent check of some new malibus still on the lot revealed that almost all had some sort of indication of the same problem. don't know what will happen if material on airbag is breached with a hole.

the following is a summary of a flat tire incident my wife had on i-75 at davidson on 6-18-2013. i have already submitted this to chevy.com/warranty, and felt that you too should be aware of this occurrence. "had a flat tire, 6/18/13 on my 2 month old malibu. called on-star, no help after 1&1/2 hours. called on-star again, no help after total of almost 3 hours. michigan dot road service came on scene and tried repair with emergency repair kit. no good, tire did not inflate. finally called aaa who responded in 10 minutes. wanted tow to dealer, but dealer (rinke) was closed after 6:00pm. was towed home at cost of $84.00. next day, 6/19/13, took tire off vehicle and brought to (rinke) service dept. for repair at cost of $25.00. asked about repair/replacement of canister in emergency repair kit. no one at dealer service had ever replaced the canister or were familiar on how to repair it. went to parts dept. to purchase a replacement canister - none available, would have to be ordered at price of over $26.00. asked about purchase of doughnut emergency tire and tool kit - again, none available, would have to be ordered at a price of over $400.00. with complete absence of dealer assistance, i took tire home and installed on vehicle. my resolution to avoid a recurrence of this event was to go to our local bell tire store and purchase a new wheel and tire so that my husband (84 years old) and i (75 years old) would have the security of a replacement tire if we encountered a flat again. in our opinion, the elimination of the emergency spare tire was a bad move, and the unavailability of replacement components is a sad and disconcerting condition."

on my way to work today i had a flat tire, which resulted in me having to call onstar because there was no spare or jack in the truck. once i called on star it took them three times calling me back to get road side assistance on the phone. i was stuck for two and a half hours before the tow truck even arrived. once the tow truck driver arrived i asked him what happened to road side assistance he told me that on star just called his office and told them that i needed a tow truck to tow my car that i only had a flat tire. that could have been fixed if i would have had a spare tire instead of a can of goo and a tire pump. once the tow truck driver got my car loaded that is when i leaned that i could not ride in the tow truck. so after being stranded on side of the road for two hours had to wait on a ride home and the dealership closed at 5 pm so, i still can't get my car until the next day because of a flat tire that could have been avoided if i had a spare tire. so, i couldn't make it to work and i had to thumb a ride home because of gm wanting to save .4 mpg of gas by taking away the spare tire and jack.

while driving the car, engine light came on, then the battery light came on. took the car to dealer for repair on july 11 and was told it was the motor for the fan that cools the battery. dealer repaired and returned to me on july 13. noted cover on airbag on steering wheel is malaligned, which is a new problem. traveled out of state with car and found cruise control and trip odometer no longer work (were fine prior to "repair"). after arriving out of state, the mylink computer failed to work then began to work about two hours later. took car to dealer who refused to take it and told me to come back next week. went to second dealer who has had car since july 16. meanwhile, we discovered the car was under recall and dealer should not have sold prior to repair. this critical repair was not made at the first or second dealer. this is an inferior product, a vehicle with 668 actual miles should not have a fan motor problem. the gas cap does not click to close either. my car has been in a dealership garage more than i have actually gotten to drive it; my first payment is not even due yet! this car is a lemon, i feel cheated and misled by chevy since they had the chance to fix it before they sold it to me. my family was in the car at the time of the fan motor issue, this could have been a significant accident. i am extremely disappointed in this vehicle and am afraid of further problems with it in the future.

went to test drive 2013 chevy malibu. as always, i adjust mirrors before driving. i immediately noticed that because the roofline is so low-slung for aerodynamic reasons, that the rear view mirror is also very low. as a result, the mirror was blocking almost 25% of my view! i've heard of blindspots on vehicles but through the windshield? i'm only 5'10' tall, but i had to duck my head to see under the mirror. didn't buy the vehicle for that reason alone. as a matter of fact, i never even went for the test drive as it was obviously dangerous.

trunk opens automatically when key fob is carried in pants pockets..i've tried shielding the fob, but it is just to sensitive for normal use!!! i got different fob, but it still opening my trunk, & i don't realize it, till i return to car... my car is not in a garage, & in mornings, the trunk is wet from snow or rain.. plus:anyone could steal from mytrunk all nite long !!!!

i had an incident where the after the car was properly parked, the car settled and the front bumper caught the parking stopped. i immediately returned the car, and learned from the hertz agent that it was the undercarriage. i understand from other complaints that the car dealer will not even cover the defective flimsy front bumper lip. the other complaints are regarding the poor assembly quality....updated 11-06-13 *bf

i was going about 65 mph on the freeway and the steering wheel suddenly becomes stiff causing me to jerk the steering wheel a little bit harder. that is dangerous because it causes the vehicle to swerve and potentially getting into an accident. i am not sure what the issue might be if it is a brand new car fresh off the lot.

while driving approximately 70 mph on the freeway, the steering wheel become stiff. when trying to make a steering adjustment to the right, the steering wheel become tight and had to force steering wheel to make the movement. it was like the feeling of a torque wrench reaching the required torque, then the steering wheel jerked to the right. this continued the entire time driving home for approximately 180 miles. almost every time i was driving straight for a period of time, then had to make an adjustment to the right, this would happen.

in about september my steering started sticking at freeway speeds since then it is getting worse have not taken it to the dealer yet, i plan to do so a little worried with reading what issues other owners have had with the dealership. i feel this is a huge safety hazard and chevrolet needs to look into what is causing this problem before there are several fatalities!

at different speeds the steering will have some form of a dead spot in it. this started around 13000 and i now have over 20000 miles on it.you will attempt to go left or right and have to corrected the steering with alot more force than normal. this has occurred at highway speeds as well as in city traffic. on 2 different occasions so far in city traffic, i have almost caused wrecks from the correction. my wife and i both have experienced these dead spots every single day that we drive the car. took it in to the dealer to try and resolve the issue. but they were unable to recreate the issue. the dealer reprogrammed the steering angle and position sensor calibration. and no change. the dealer told me the vehicle is equipped with an electric power steering system and is far more responsive to driver input. it appears to me that chevy has a big issue with this yet will do nothing about it. on the chevy forum we have a thread that is over 10 pages long and growing with this same issue. http://www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26489.

when i was driving i noticed that every so often my brakes would feel really stiff when braking. later that day, parked vehicle in the driveway and brake lights would not go off, had to go into vehicle and lift brake pedal up to get lights to go off. noticed later that day that brake pedal was getting stuck down after i released my foot off the brake. does not do it everytime i break but did start to do it the day we had 90% humidity. still have to sometimes lift the pedal up to get the lights to go off.

while driving at interstate speeds, particularly after more than 30 minutes of continuous travel, my 2013 chevrolet malibu's steering becomes extremely dangerous. the car will "wander" left or right even though the steering wheel is held straight. when i attempt to correct the "wander," the steering wheel does not react. after applying continuous pressure to the steering wheel for approximately 2 seconds, it then "gives" too much in the corrective direction. it is as if the steering response is dead and then over-correction occurs. if the wander occurs to the left first, over-correction will occur, and then the car will wander to the right, and then over-correction will occur again, etc. as a driver, it feels as if traveling in a straight line is no longer possible and a zig-zag pattern is the new straight. this over-correction of the dead steering wheel varies in level of intensity. however, there have been several occasions since initial failure that have resulted in near accidents. my local chevrolet dealership was not able to recreate the issue (they would not drive the vehicle for 30 continuous minutes at interstate speeds of 70 mph). the dealer rotated my tires and checked alignment with no issues identified or causes for concern noted. the date of this service was 12-31-2013. this issue appears to getting worse as the mileage accumulates on my vehicle. please address this issue. someone could be very seriously injured or worse.

while driving on long straight stretches of smooth road (i.e. interstate) the steering system appears to take a "set" when making small steering corrections. this manifests as a slight bump or resistance when attempting to turn the wheel to the right. it is an intermittent problem, and never appears during periods of much steering activity (i.e. lots of turns, town driving, etc.) in my case it usually appears on long trips, and at speeds above 60 mph, on roads where very little steering input is needed. this is a common problem with malibus as attested to by the chevrolet owners forum. extremely hard for dealers service to duplicate due to the intermittent nature of the problem.

the car appears to have no center. sometimes it pulls left and sometimes it pulls right. when i go to correct the issue the car doesn't respond right away, then it over corrects. the car never rides in the center anymore. i am constantly having to move the steering wheel to keep the car going straight. i feel like someone is going to report me for drunk driving or that i am going to get pulled over for it. i have taken it to the dealership twice for it and they "cannot duplicate" and tell me that it's normal for the car to drive that way because its all electric now. the car did not drive like this when i bought it less than a year ago. if it did, i would have not purchased it.

erratic steering when traveling at highway speeds, when in the left lane the car will always drift towards the ditch after a few feet. when in the right lane the car will always drift into the left lane within a few feet. also have issue with a 'lock' in the steering wheel, when driving for a couple of miles, when turning left or right, have to give steering wheel extra push to make it move, it feels like the steering wheel is locked in place. extra push is given then i over steer into another lane and need to correct into my lane. looks like i am swerving when this happens.

driving alone in the car on a smooth dry road with hills at 40 - 55mph the steering would pull the car off the centerline and then stick until i pulled it back to center. not a lot of force required to bring back on center but it continued to do it numerous times. it appeared the wander was not due to road surface conditions but something going on with the steering assembly. the sticking condition is of major concern as loss of control was a possibility because it was happening at a higher speeds on a hilly two lane road. it feels like something is allowing the assist to lighten up then something jams until a slight correction unlocks it.there is very little normal road feel through the steering when this occurs. i have driven this route a number of times before without incident and around town at low speeds it is fine.i should mention this model is the ltz with wide tires (19 inch goodyear eagle rsa: horrible traction in snow but very good on dry road surface) that are inflated to the proper 35psi all around per the operators instructions. i should also mention that my previous car was a 2005 malibu with electric steering so i am quite familiar with this type assist and that one never behaved like this. i don't know what the dealer can do for me because it has only done this once so far and appears normal once again. i am very concerned about driving this car at high speeds at this point.

steering was great up to about 7000 miles, then gradually seem to lose its centering capability. steady driving, especially highway cruising, began to require constant corrections and each correction became an overcorrection because the steering wheel seemed to be stuck in position. the jerk from being stuck causes another overcorrection the other direction. driving the car has become very annoying, and i suspect will even become a hazard very shortly. i now have 12k miles. my second visit to the dealer (about 10k miles) resulted in not being able to find the problem. will try again next week.

i recently just bought a 2013 chevy malibu and i was excited, now i am just having regrets. i have noticed that my steering wheel locks up at or around 45 mph and over. my car starts to drift towards the yellow or white line, and i will try to make the minor adjustments (just like i would in any other vehicle) and i find myself tugging pretty forcefully to break it free, which then results in my car jerking over quickly in the other direction and then i have to try to correct my direction again. it also happens while i'm on the highway going around a corner at 55 mph. i can't take it on the freeways either knowing that i can barely handle my car at 55 mph, let alone how i would manage at 65-70 mph with a lot more traffic and barriers without possibly hitting something. i even had passengers make comments about my driving, saying they feel like they are a ping pong ball and that i need to learn how to drive. i assure you i have been driving for a long time and have drove many other vehicles, including my mother's chevy avalanche, and i have never had this problem. i can't enjoy driving the only newest vehicle i have ever had and i certainly can't have anyone in the vehicle with me anymore, especially my 1 year old niece, because it is not safe and now i'm taking it to my dealer later this week. while on the phone with my dealer, they were trying to say that there probably isn't a problem because i never owned a chevy previously and that i was just not use to the way the newer vehicles handle. i even mentioned that my brother has a 2013 chevy malibu and is having the same problems so it's not just a random occurrence. i am not a vehicle expert, but i know this is a serious problem and now i dread driving my vehicle for fear of causing an accident and/or injuring others. general motors definitely needs to look into this issue before serious injuries or fatalities occur.

when i started the car the fan and the heater came on full blast. within seconds it was very hot in the car. the fan and the heater were turned off at the time but were lit like they were on. it scared me. i turned the fan on all the way then turn it back,but that did nothing as with the heater. i turned the car off and waited a minute and restarted and it was okay. i took talked with my garage repair (may 9 2014) and was told they couldn't check the problem on the computer unless the problem was occuring at that time. i did not inform dealership where i purchased my car as i do not use them for repair or maintenance.

turned the car on heat came on full blast fan and temp gage were both in off position. it did this 3 times before i could get it into the shop a week later. this car alarm also turns itself on after driving in the rain. last but certianly not least when driving in slow traffic the transmissions downshift on this automatic vehicle is horrible it is a violent jerk down and up. my dealership continues to tell me there are no problems with the exception of the fan issue the only thing they have been able to fix. i am beginning to hate my car. the jerk scares the cap out of me i am scared one day it will just slip it is even worse when the ac is on even when stopping in normal traffic it does this and sometimes feels like i am driving over a gravel road.

2013 chev malibu 1ls manufactured 11/20/12, currently less than 7,000 mi. 1) chrome & radio glass - when sun shines on consel it blinds driver & driver must cover area with a scarf or jacket; consel is beautiful to look at, but not practical from a safety viewpoint since the driver is blinded & cannot see until the area is covered from the sun. 2) when air conditioning was turned on, a blast of very hot air came out; it took a couple of times of turning the settings off & on (at least 60 seconds or longer) before the hot air stopped & the air conditioning came on. the hot air could not be immediately turned off. happened only once. 3) passenger side front fender/bumper loose - makes noise, can pop it back in, but on hot days, it pops out, vibrates and makes loud noise until popped back in. 4) rear windows - when down 1/2, 3/4 or fully, vibrates, makes very loud noise that sounds like tires are coming apart, causing driver to immediately pull over to check tires, the distraction & being on side of road could be a safety issue. 5) no spare tire - unable to locate a tire & rim (or donut tire) for purchase to insert in trunk tire area. no can of goop, also goop only lasts for 6 months & must be discarded & new can purchased. not good when stranded in inclement snowy weather or out in the hot desert & must wait for tow truck. i like my chev malibu very much, it has been able to handle rough gravel/dirt roads in inclement weather, snow, & highway travel. i plan to take it to the dealer shortly for an oil change & to take care of these issues. what i don't like is that i am unable to turn the driver airbag off (i sit less than 12 inches from the wheel & am concerned that if it were to deploy i would be killed) & that the vehicle is fairly low to the ground, making speed bumps & getting out of businesses where there is a dip onto streets difficult.

2013 chev malibu 1ls manufactured 11/20/12, currently less than 7,000 mi. 1) chrome & radio glass - when sun shines on consel it blinds driver & driver must cover area with a scarf or jacket; consel is beautiful to look at, but not practical from a safety viewpoint since the driver is blinded & cannot see until the area is covered from the sun. 2) when air conditioning was turned on, a blast of very hot air came out; it took a couple of times of turning the settings off & on (at least 60 seconds or longer) before the hot air stopped & the air conditioning came on. the hot air could not be immediately turned off. happened only once. 3) passenger side front fender/bumper loose - makes noise, can pop it back in, but on hot days, it pops out, vibrates and makes loud noise until popped back in. 4) rear windows - when down 1/2, 3/4 or fully, vibrates, makes very loud noise that sounds like tires are coming apart, causing driver to immediately pull over to check tires, the distraction & being on side of road could be a safety issue. 5) no spare tire - unable to locate a tire & rim (or donut tire) for purchase to insert in trunk tire area. no can of goop, also goop only lasts for 6 months & must be discarded & new can purchased. not good when stranded in inclement snowy weather or out in the hot desert & must wait for tow truck. i like my chev malibu very much, it has been able to handle rough gravel/dirt roads in inclement weather, snow, & highway travel. i plan to take it to the dealer shortly for an oil change & to take care of these issues. what i don't like is that i am unable to turn the driver airbag off (i sit less than 12 inches from the wheel & am concerned that if it were to deploy i would be killed) & that the vehicle is fairly low to the ground, making speed bumps & getting out of businesses where there is a dip onto streets difficult.

key fob is too sensitive, especially on the trunk button. keys are in my pocket, and if i bump up against something, the trunk is open. when you are in public (say a public park for a family reunion) and need to store large valuables in your car, where do you store them? in the trunk. well what happens if you bump something and your trunk pops? those valuables get stolen. the fob should have the trunk button inset into it, require to press two buttons simultaneously, or require you to press the trunk button twice for the trunk to open. i believe that this is a chevrolet design error. the day that i bought my previous chevy car (2012 camaro) this same thing happened. just so happened there wasn't anything in my trunk with the camaro. but it did rain and my trunk was full of water the morning. this seems like an easy fix, and i am sure that i'm not the only person with this problem. sucks to see my mom lose a coach purse and wallet, personal and business debit cards and checks, medication, and cash while on a family vacation.

front passenger seat air bag sensor too sensitive?? the front passenger air bag light comes on as well as front passenger seat belt reminder with minimal weight and/or pressure exerted on seat. i noted a 12oz soda beverage was placed on the front passenger seat and in approximately less than 10 seconds the vehicle light illuminated that the air bag was on (it illuminated off until this point) and the reminder tone came on to remind to fasten the front passenger seat belt.

my rpm keeps going up and down at stops and i took it to a dealer and they found out my piston is cracked at compression rings.there is also a service bulletin issued by gm pi-1178 affecting 2.0 turbo engines ,i talked to 2 gm represantatives both denied of having a service bulletin issued on this car .and theydont want to change my engine but replace the pistons and the rings ,my car will be at the shop another week!.i always had gm cars 1 and this will be my last gm car because its a cheap company!

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

neighbors woke us up at 3 am to tell us they just put a fire out on the car. 2013 chevy malibu purchased with 2 miles on it and had it for 8 months..went outside to check and firs was smothering. came in house, while calling insurance looked out the window and the car was on fire again. called 911 and went out to spray water on it. put the fire out and waited for fire department and police. fire department opened the trunk and tore the carpet away from the light and sprayed the inside of the car. the car was towed to the dealer the next day. now one month later they said it was the wiring harness. the dealer can not say why it happened but want to fix the car and give it back to us, even though themseles and the insurance company said they would not get back in it either. we just asked for a car of equal value, anything on the lot (preferrably not chevy and did not have to be new), now it looks llike we will have to get an attorney because some are calling it totaled and some are not. phone calls are not being returned and if they are we get different answers to the questions. really sucks. our neighbor has cameras around her house and the whole thing is on camera. we have 2 other chevy's currently, but will probably be getting rid of them.

i started the car and viewed the message “service power steering” in the message center between the odometer and tachometer. there did not seem to be any issue with the steering, but wanted to get it checked out by my local dealer since it was less than a half mile up the road. as i put the car into the gear, the car would not move. the indicator lights that normally show me what gear i am in (prnd) were blank. then all of the sudden, the car surged forward violently, as if the malibu was just rear-ended. i then turned the car off and restarted it. the “service power steering” message appeared again. however, the “check engine” light had lit up, and the “service parking brake” message appeared as well. the car then surge violently again forward without shifting into any gears. i then shut the car off and called spencer chevrolet to tell them i was going to have the car towed to their shop. after a few minutes, i tried once more to start the car and was able to shift into gear and drive it to the shop in limp mode with half the warning lights lit up on the dash. after further diagnostics, the maintenance manager at spencer chevrolet informed me that the transmission computer module (tcm) had failed and needed replacement under warranty. this was the third electrical issue i had with this vehicle (the trunk was opening on its own while driving, parked, or during the night, and the radio was locking up with no control). i was worried that the transmission issue could have happened while driving, and didn't want to take any risks.

my vehicle which was purchased brand new 02/2014 was left running and placed into park on level asphalt street. when i walked about six or seven feet from the vehicle my vehicle began rolling forward. i chased the vehicle and attempted to get inside to stop the vehicle. i was able to open the door but was dragged several feet. i could see clearly the vehicle was in park. the vehicle went in to a small ravine and from the outside of the vehicle i was able to push the engine stop/start button and the vehicle stopped. i easily backed the vehicle out after starting it. i shut the vehicle off and some nice people i did not know tended to my injuries. i called general motors later that night and was given a service request number of 71-1320790919. my vehicle was towed to sunrise chevy on 06/22. on 07/21 i was notified nothing could be found wrong with my vehicle. i was given no paperwork from general motors or the dealer. there was 1100.00 dollars of damage to my vehicle . general motors refused to pay for said damage. i was told to use my parking brake. really that is ridiculous when u are on level ground. my left foot and leg still show the signs of being dragged. i was also asked how many times this happened. isn't once enough. i surely did not try to duplicate it. i did not nor will i ever leave my car running again and walk away. i had the key with me on that day but guess what i discovered the vehicle can be driven away even while the key fab is with you. i hope this does not happen to anyone else which is the reason i reported the incident to general motors and now documenting the incident here.

STEERING

steering became stiff with slippage when bearing left or right. took it to dealer in savannah where purchased. was told this was an issue for quite a few people. power steering motor was replaced. also had an issue with heater vents blowing hot air even when turned off. happened on start up several times. dealer said computer had to be reprogrammed. had a flat and side of tire had a hole. the kit in the trunk (instead of an actual tire) was no help at all. had to call aaa for a tow. had to buy an after market rim and tire so i would have a spare. the dealers sell them at around $500.00. i am so disappointed with this car.....chevy has lost a loyal customer due to their greed and the dealer in savannah will never get any business from us for selling us a car that they knew had issues.

my daughter was driving on expressway and had just taken an exit through town about a mile when her rear drivers side tire (goodyear assurance) blew out on the inside of the tire. the blowout was in the sidewall near the rim and was about 3 inches long, which i have a picture of. she said she heard a "pop", low tire pressure light came on and then a rumbling noise. luckily she was able to get it off to the side of the road safely. this 2013 malibu only had 12,000 miles on the tires when this happened. approximately 5 days earlier i had just taken the car into a dealership near our home and had the oil changed and tires rotated but no one had acknowledged any problems or bulges with any of the tires.. the dealership where we bought the car would not have anything to do with the tire issue. they stated the warranty does not cover tires and we would have to deal with goodyear ourselves. upon doing some research on the internet, i had discovered that many complaints had been made on these particular tires such as bulges in the sidewalls and blowouts with very low mileage. it's obvious there is a defect of some kind and these tires need to be investigated before someone gets killed. my daughter said she never ran over anything, it just popped on its own. thank god she had just gotten off the expressway as this could have caused a tragic accident.

i was in 2013 chevy malibu rental car from enterprises that i've been driving for over a month now and today 09092014 while driving on very busy highway with my 4 year old son in his car seat in the back i was slowing to exit the highway when all of a sudden the car started to shake violently and was loosing speed and power with serval 18 wheelers existing at the same time as well. the car information display panel said "reduced engine power", and the traction control and check engine lights came on along with the change oil soon. i'm blessed that nothing happened to us but i'm afraid that this may happen again to someone and the results my not be as blessed as we are. i will be in contact with enterprises rental in the morning for a different car.
