TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

we bought a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the salesman said to inflate the tire to 35 lbs. one tire (hankook) lost air frequently. i went to fill the tire and the tire had written inflate to 42 lbs. the information on the door said to inflate to 32 lbs. the tire took about 38 lbs. before my tire pump wouldn't fill it any more. i called gm and complained. after several phone calls the person i spoke to said to inflate to what was written in the owner's manual. the owner's manual said to follow the directions on the tire. what should i do? if i over inflate, the tires may blow out or may blow up (while inflating). if i underinflate the tires may also blow out and will give poor gas mileage. gm was no help at all. this is a major safety problem.

can someone please see if the 2010 chevrolet malibu has the same steering as the cobalt? i have owned this car for 1 month now and have the same issue. problem: over 45mph there is a disconnected feeling in the steering. on rough roads or on a windy day the car is hard to keep in your lane. i have had 3 other people drive the car and they confirm the under-steer feeling. car is going back to the dealer ship this weekend to be investigated.

i bought a 2010 chevy malibu in november of 2010 and the car engine caught on fire in january of 2010. the vehicle was parked in my driveway while i was sleeping. at approximately 9 p.m. my neighbors awake me to notify me that my car was on fire. they had called 911 and the fire department had shown up shortly afterward. the fire came from the engine compartment. i notified american chevrolet in modesto, ca, where i had purchased the vehicle and they towed it to there dealership. since then i have not been given a definitive answer as to what the root cause of the fire was, and what is being done to replace my vehicle or reimburse me for my cost. i haven't been compensated either for my loss of transportation. my insurance first said that the problem lied with general motors, but due to the prolong period of time are now getting involved in paying the car, where i will come out loosing all my investment. fortunately, the car was parked outside, not inside my garage where the car would have gotten my new home on fires. i work graveyard and was asleep when the fire occurred. the fire department ruled that it look to be a defect. i don't understand why it would take a large corporation would take so long to resolve a serious problem such as this.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

new malibu 2010 (14 miles on odometer on 02/27/2010) has severe problem with the engine. upon starting vehicle, it has a very strong vibration and looks like engine may stop running every minute. when accelerating, engine provides noise and vibration and engine generates rattling noise. it is unsafe to drive this vehicle. dealership where vehicle was bought on 02/26/2010 does not like take to provide repair or so on. gm does not respond to our e-mails and calls, but when complaint was submitted to bbb we got a call that said that it is gm legal department - no last name or position, and the person started to intimidate us. the consumer stated when ascending a slope, not even 30 degrees, and have to stop, the vehicle began to slide back immediately once the accelerator pedal was released, before applying the brake. updated 06/30/10.*jb

the theft system is hanging up in my 2001 chevy malibu and making it not start. i can be stuck without it starting day or night. i have had it to the dealer numerous times at $500 each. they keep saying that it is not a recall and has to be paid 4 by me. on the internet there are numerous complaints about the same thing. why r we responsible for this and it seems to b a constant problem?

very delayed response to braking. i was about four cars away when i applied the brake. i was going about 40mph when i slammed on the brake. vehicle kept rolling until eventually it hit another vehicle. it felt like i was just driving with the foot on the gas very slowly. its in the shop now being repaired. brakes are said to be "normal". lol .

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

vehicle was operating on cruise control at approx. 70 mph on level road grade.. driver pushed res+ button on steering wheel to increment cruise control set speed and the engine immediately went to wide-open-throttle. driver immediately reacted by tapping brake pedal and the cruise control deactivated. i did not use the cruise control for the rest of our journey. vehicle is a rental and this issue will be reported to rental agency upon vehicle turn-in on 5/10/10.

we just leased a chevy malibu from east hills chevrolet at 1039 northern blvd. roslyn,n.y.11576. within 2 days the new 2010 vehicle stalled on the long island expwy and could not be re-started. the nassau county police called a tow truck to the scene and towed it back to the dealer.after two [2] days we received a call from the service mgr. leon, who stated that the car was repaired and ready for pick up[05-13-0=10] well , as my daughter drove out of the service dept.,again within 15 minutes the car stalled on the long island expwy and she is currently waiting again for the police to respond to call a tow being that the roadway is restricted.the service mgr, leon, told me the car was repaired and that it was a computer problem. i asked him if this had happened before and he said yes ! and now again for the second time it stalled on the expressway. this is not acceptable.

2010 malibu; i've had it just over 3 months; air bag light continually lit up; took to dealership; i've waited over a week; they ordered 5 modules to replace safety air bag system; to replace they had to remove both front seats; cut the tracks of the seats out; order new tracks and has to weld them back in the car; how safe is this car going to be at this point? i only wish for a different car at this point as i have 2 year old that i transport in this car and do not feel safe even with them replacing all the modules.

i purchased a 2010 chevy malibu on monday june 28th at finnegan chevrolet in houston texas. at the time of purchase it had 14 miles on the odometer. my family and i started to drive back home to kentucky and at about 300 miles on the unit, the speedometer started to act up with fluctuations and then dropped to 0, upon which we called on-star as an emergency and they checked the vehicle and they said we could continue to drive it and have it checked within 24 hours. we stopped for gas and restarted our travel when at 450 it started becoming worse. we checked again with on-star and they said it had 3 error singles but we should be able to make it back. at 491 miles, the transmission completely failed while driving at 75 miles and hour and almost created an accident but my son was able to bring the car to a stop. we didn't continue but had the car towed to gwatney chevy in jacksonville, ar. they next day we were told it was a computer malfunction and they road tested the car and it would make it to kentucky. i took over driving and just 5 miles down the road, lost complete drivetrain/transmission control at 72 miles per hour in a construction zone and almost had an accident again do to the drop in speed. this is two episodes with this vehicle in 24 hours and no assurance from the manufacture it wouldn't happen again. the car is back in gwatney chevy in jacksonville, ar.

my wife, driving down a city street in our 2010 chevrolet malibu, had to swerve to her right to avoid a truck that was coming around a curve in her lane, and in the process of avoiding the oncoming vehicle , scrapped the curb with her right front tire. upon checking the right front tire, the chrome on the plastic hub had peeled back and had sharp edges. upon further examination it appears that the chrome from the hubcap, had cut the sidewall of tire so that i could see the cord. the hub cap extends out from the rim of the tire, and it seems like any extreme flexing of the tire, such as my wife had, or driving through and pot hole into the road, would cause the hubcap to cut the tire. i now have to purchase and new hub cap and new tire from the dealership at over $200.00 if i had not noticed the damage and we were driving on the expressway and had a blowout the results could be serious.

i just took delivery of a 2010 malibu with 50 miles on the odometer. after leaving the dealership i went to accelerate onto a highway. at this time the car didn't move. the engine didn't rev and the trans felt like it was in neutral. next the trans slammed into gear and the car accelerated as it should. not too safe.

the vehicle is a 2010 chevy malibu. i bought the vehicle brand new and it now has 758 mile on it. it stalls while doing speeds above 25 miles per hour. the steering becomes dificult, the brakes become less than efficient and it happens without warning. every time this issue has happened it was above 90 degrees outside. it happened 4 times in 758 miles. they are looking at it at the dealership now and i have 2 other aquaintences that have the same car with the same issues.

2005 malibu maxx... power steering lock up.. luckily each time it has happened i was traveling at low speed or just after starting the engine i would get he power steering alarm. turn the engine off and restart the problem is gone. could have been disastrous at high speed on a crooked road.

2010 chevy malibu ltz v6 3.6l has hard gear shift up and down around 15 mph, 35 mph, 50 mph, more noticeably at 15 and 35 mph. this problem, so i assume, also causes the car to accelerate on its own after braking and letting off of the brake to coast around these speeds. when attempting to accelerate the vehicle hesitates and then "lurches" forward into gear. i'm afraid this may cause a rear end collision. vehicle has been taken to dealership multiple times to investigate/repair problem. dealership and gm claim this is "normal performance" for this vehicle.

i want to file a compliant and make you aware that the 2010 chevy malibu's have an airbag deployment issue. my airbag did not deploy when a hit a deer head-on at 50 mph's because the airbag wire was severed by the cracked plastic air intake cover on the engine during the accident. i fortunately was fine due to having my seatbelt on, but i was curious why the airbag did not work deploy at the speed i was going when the accident happened. upon inspection, my repair shop discovered the wire was severed by the plastic air intake cover and also found out this a common issue in the 4 cylinder 2010 chevy malibu's. i would like to see chevy issue a recall to fix this problem in the 2010 malibu's.

2010 chevy malibu roof leak from bad weld water ran down headliner and flooded back floor behind drive seat. water was almost 1" deep. water ran down headliner across wiring for airbags, lights and settled along floor near the main body wiring harness. rust on seat brackets. dealer pulled out headliner, windshield, all seats and trim. replaced carpet cleaned and painted seat brackets. called chevrolet hq but would do nothing but replace carpet and extend warranty - unwilling to buy car back or trade for another vehicle. having delay issues with lights on dashboard now. unwilling to do anything regarding resale value of vehicle, very arrogant attitude and cavalier towards me as a customer. more road noise since interior was ripped out. vehicle had 15,000 miles when this happened. still have musty odor sometimes after car has sat for a day.

transmission forgets how to shift when driving uphill at around 65 mph and rpms start bouncing between 2000 to 2400 rpm. this will continue for quite some time and typically happens when outdoor ambient temp is above 90f. this problem causes a serious safety issue on the highway as cars are bearing down on you at 70 mph plus and your car refuses to accelerate. this car is a death box and disaster waiting to happen. i guess before anyone will do anything about it people have to die first. this vehicle has been to the dealership more than 4 times for the issue and they always say it can't be replicated and have reprogrammed the computer. the 2010 chevy malibu is a lemon! the problem began occurring after 1000 miles and we have given up taking it to the dealer to get fixed. it is obvious they have no clue how to fix it and refuse to acknowledge the problem. we now have 19000 miles on it and the problem never goes away. i wish we could burn this car to the ground. i have documented many other malibu 2.4l owners with the same issue.

i drive for a taxi company that extensively uses the 7th generation chevy malibu (2008+). a well known defect around here involves the power steering sensor, which can without warning stop operating and make steering impossible. this has been known to happen most often when odometer mileage is 150k+. vehicle must be restarted to regain full steering operation. steering can resume normal operation without a repeat of the error, or the fault can be repeated almost immediately. it is an intermittent and random problem. i believe my company has not yet reported this, but i personally don't fancy getting myself and potentially my customers into a life threatening situation. i would appreciate an official look into high mileage malibus, especially those in a commercial capacity.

upon accelerating from a parking lot to the road i heard a loud bang from the rear of the car. i stopped to do a visual inspection as it sounded like it came from the rear suspension. i continued a mile down the road while slowing for a stop sign i heard another noise from the same area and heard a metal object bounce under the car and down the road. i recovered a piece of a broken spring that had come from my right rear suspension. i went directly to the chevy dealer and they confirmed the failure.

our 2010 chevy malibu vehicle has been stalling on the hwy and in the city, regardless of the speed limit. all dash lights turn on, vehicle starts stalling and slowing down, then trembles until the vehicle is turn off. we have had to pull to the side of the road, turn off the ignition, and wait five to ten minutes to restart the vehicle, emergency lights turned on for safety. we have encountered very hazardous circumstances with this vehicle on the hwy as well as in the city limits, always fearing that we may get hit from behind. we have taken our vehicle into the car dealer where we purchased it describing the problem, but to no avail. we are told nothing is wrong with the vehicle, and the machine finds nothing wrong with our vehicle. we have also taken our car to our vehicle mechanic, and told us it was the sensors in the gas pedal, which we had replaced for $400.00. a week later the vehicle started doing the same thing. again we returned to our mechanic, whom in turn took the vehicle into the chevrolet car dealer service department; and was told that all chevy malibu came defective from the factory with this same problem. the dealership has experience a lot of the same complaints with this type of vehicle. i have researched the internet for gm recalls on the 2010 chevy malibu, but have found nothing. i ask why gm has not issued a recall this problem, knowing that it is a factory defect. we the consumers are stuck with making payments for years on an unsafe vehicle; an unsafe vehicle that i have to subject my family to on a daily bases. what is gm waiting for a human tragedy to happen? we need assistance in getting this hazardous problem resolved. thank you.

i purchased the 2010 malibu, used from the dealership- they were the owners previously. i purchased it in oct. 2011 and have taken it to the dealership 8 times in the 9 months of owning it. one time the entire driver side floor had 1+ inches of standing water in it, after a rain. the esc light continued to come on and off- they couldn't locate any issue- the first 2 times i took it in for that. the oil life sensor never went off for service- i was at 10,000 miles since the last oil change. i took it to my real mechanic to have fixed. the battery went totally dead in it one day- they said it had bad cells in it. and it would also stall, and when going about 40 mph not accelerate, on inclines. that's when the esc light would kick on, sometimes, and the rpm's would go up and down, all over the place. finally made the dealership keep it until they figured out something- they kept it a few days, and called me numerous times asking me unrelated questions- they thought i was nuts, because they couldn't reproduce the issue. finally- they told me a wire in the fuel injection had come loose. my car was so called 'certified' by the dealership- but i don't think they did any of the tests, or else they would have found some of these things themselves.

i've had my car in the warranty repair shop 6 times in the last 3 months. first occurrence i was driving down the road and my warning lights came on for esc off, service traction control, service esc at 20 mph. they've replaced 4 parts on my car and today the same lights service traction control and service esc have come on once again. it varies (speed doesn't matter) whether or not going down the highway or stopping in a driveway when it comes on but warning lights will come on when you touch the brakes. i also observed that the brake lights stay on while going down the road (when its dark outside) but when you apply the brakes the brake lights go off. i feel this could be dangerous if someone is following behind you and thinks that you have let off the brakes but you are actually slowing down. i don't think that they have an apparent fix for this issue as i see several reports from vehicles ranging from 2008 to 2012 online complaining about this same issue. i am to take my car back again for service next week to hopefully get it repaired but i am not so sure they are going to find the problem after already having it in there so many times for the same issue. it is intermittant. when you turn the car off after this occurs the lights will go off. sometimes only for a short period other times for a week to 3 weeks before it comes on again.

i purchased this car with 14,444 miles after 500 miles i took the car to the dealership. this car was taken back to chevy and they could not find the problems after 7 tries. i than took the car to the chrysler dealership and all they did was set in the car and found out that my rack-n-opinion was bad. this was replaced but, the hub bearings had to be replaced also at another dealership, i am having whining noise when i turn and also the car is wearing out tires. there has been 3 tires replaced on this car with 1 year. no one wants to fix my car or replace it. this car is not safe for me or other drivers on the road. if i could afford to buy another car, i would. l am so disappointed with gm products. this is my 4 car with gm and i am never going to buy another car. i am not the only customer that is having problems with the 2010 malibu.

this is the second one to be replace. i thought the first one i replaced was an isolated case. i was on my way back from a funeral and stop at a dealers because the tire pressure was low. i know i needed some tries. i put on two tires and why the rim was off, they notice that it was bent. i had a problem last year with a rim that the dealer found a crack in it. another customer had her malibu in for service and they found out the her rim was bent also. on the internet, i noticed that this is not isolated as i thought it was. a crack or bent rim could cause a tire failure and may injure or kill someone. gm warranty doesn't cover this anymore. oh i brought this car new.

i purchased this vehicle new in march 2010 and began having battery problems june 2011 at about 28,000 miles. the battery would go dead randomly from 2 hours after parking to being parked for 3 days. after having the battery tested several times at 31,000 the esc light began coming on and the esc code was cleared. at about 32,000 the battery over heated and began steaming acid out of the battery. the dealer replaced the battery and replaced the yaw sensor and wiring. the esc light continues to come one which turns off the cruise control and applies the brakes. the dealer has replaced yaw sensor several times, wheel sensors, clock spring in steering wheel, abs brake system, installed a new computer and replaced wiring. they have also had gm engineers coming from out of state on several days to work on the vehicle during the 9 plus service visits for a total of over 70 days of repair. the esc light continues to come on at random. dealer advised they are unable to repair vehicle. i have tried to work with the dealer for a gm buy back, but the dealer is only offering average trade value, what does not seem to be a fair resolution to the problem.

i purchased the vehicle in july of 2011 and had noticed a few times during winter that when i turned the steering wheel, sometimes the headlights would dim and the heater fan would suddenly slow down. nothing really ever happened to make me think there was a serious issue. i would notice it would happen intermittently through out the next several months. early in march, 2013, i had noticed as i was backing out of my driveway to go to work, the steering wheel would become much more difficult to turn and there would be a message on the dash that just read power steering. this would only last for a brief moment, and then it would go away and the steering would be fine. i thought it was from the cold weather. on friday, march 15, i had stopped at a few different places, was having no issues that i could tell. i got into my car to leave the last stop, started the car and began to back out of the parking lot. i didn't see a message at first and it felt like i had a flat tire. about 5 seconds later there were 4 dings and the dash said power steering again and the steering wheel was very sluggish. i'd been half expecting it to start working again, but after speaking with a rep at an auto parts store, they told me it sounded like the electronic assist motor on the rack-and-pinion had shorted, causing a fuse to blow which was something gm had already put a recall out for other vehicles, except my model year. i spoke with the dealer and they told me that the only recall that was out on the car at the moment was an issue with the gear shift indicator and i will be taking care of that soon. they want me to take it in for diagnostics to see what gm will cover for repairs, but honestly i don't think i should be liable for a problem that gm didn't fix right the first time.

i have a 2010 malibu and recently took it too the dealer for a service air bag light and they informed me of a electrical problem that was supposed to be corrected under a recall, however now there saying i need to replace the driver side seat air bag and the passenger seat module. these air bags are a safety issue and there are many 2010 malibu owners experiencing the same problems and the dealer wants to charge 1245.87 for repairs and cannot say why the failure happened. a vehicle of this age should not have air bag failure. there needs to be some sort of investigation on to why these air bags and seat sensors are failing for no apparent reasons beside the poor or cheap quality of the products there installing. i think that gm needs to stand behind there cars and trucks and not brush off such a huge safety risk. it has been brought to my attention that i have 3 areas in my rim to be crack along the crease of a 5 star rim. i was informed by a couple of experts that these type of rims has been causing alot of owner difficulties. i do not believe we should be held responsible for a manufacturing defect, especially when it is clear that there was not any negligence on the part of the owner. it is obvious that i am not the only that has had this problem and would like to have this investigated for a recall..at this time i am refusing to pay for the rim, because no one has given me a "make since" explanation as to the blame.. i have even went as far a filing a claim with general motors to have them shuffle me back and forth between the dealership and their (gm) specialist. something need to give. i feel our safety in involved at this point. had i not had it check and continued with the fix a flat formula and airing up the tire, who knows what could have happened to me and my family.. please look into this issue, not just for me, but for thousands od malibu 2010 ls owners... thank you so much for you immediate attention and concern in regards to this issue in advance.

i've had my car in the warranty repair shop 2 times in 2012 for the esc light coming on, used to come on every few weeks...as of date today, it comes on every time you turn the car on. first occurrence i was driving down the road and my warning lights came on for esc off, service traction control, service esc at 20 mph. they've replaced 3 parts on my car and today the same lights service traction control and service esc have come on once again. it varies (speed doesn't matter) whether or not going down the highway or stopping in a driveway when it comes on but warning lights will come on when you touch the brakes. i also observed that the brake lights stay on while going down the road (when its dark outside) but when you apply the brakes the brake lights go off. i feel this could be dangerous if someone is following behind you and thinks that you have let off the brakes but you are actually slowing down. i don't think that they have an apparent fix for this issue as i see several reports from vehicles ranging from 2008 to 2012 online complaining about this same issue. i am to take my car back again for service next week to hopefully get it repaired but i am not so sure they are going to find the problem after already having it in there so many times for the same issue. it is intermittent. i am sick to my stomach dealing with something that feels as if is never going to be fixed. its a huge hazard driving in the city and your brake lights are completely backwards. new bulbs have been changed, new switch, now what? its scary and stomach turning knowing my car is 3 yrs old and a disaster!!!

while driving vehicle, the brake lights will illuminate without pressing the brake pedal. once the brake pedal is pressed, the brake lights go out and will come back on approximately 5 seconds later. in an emergency stop, the driver behind me will not have warning that there is an emergency stop. additionally, the cruise control will turn off as the system believes the brakes are being applied when they are not. this will happen without warning while driving on the highway.

the service esc and traction light came on. i took the car to the dealership to be serviced. the told me it would cost about $700 to fix the issue. two days later the light was back on. i called the dealership again and he said "oh that is bad." i took it back in and he apologized for not checking another option regarding this service. he told me it would cost another $500 to replace the electronic stability control module. this all happened about 2 months after the warranty ran out. i have been researching and this seems to be a common issue with the 2010 malibus. the dealership also told me that this was a safety issue and that the brakes could lock up while driving down the highway.

coming to a stop on an off ramp, brakes failed couldn't stop. (it had been raining). 2nd incident on june 26, 2013, going down highway and service traction light with sec light came on and car was powering down and steering was difficult. called landmark service center in taylorville, illinois they told me to turn the car off, then restart (of course lights went out) and drive it to the nearest gm garage. (i was out of town at the time). when i arrived at the location they put it on the computer and of course nothing showed up because the lights were not on. on wednesday i took may car to landmark in taylorville to have the oil changed and to see if they could check on the problem. and true to form the computer showed nothing because the lights were no on. but was told if this happened again to go to the nearest service center and don't turn the car off. i've had this experience and it is very dangerous when in traffic. and am scared to drive the car out of town. i like my car and want to keep it but if the problem is not fixed someone may get hurt. but before that happens i will trade the car and i assure you that i will not by another gm product and will tell everyone of the problems i had.

i have been going through the same issue with my car for about 3 months now. i have had a issue with the esc & service traction light. i took it to the jim ellis chevy dealership ( paid $105 for diagnostic) and they told me it was the fuel injector, i told them that i had their fuel injector ( cylinder 1) replaced. they told me because it was aftermarket that i had to pay $267 to replace it. i took it to a local mechanic had him put in a gm injector and still was having the same issue, the mechanic replaced the engine wire harness, coils, shift solenoid, and none of this fixed the problem. he then stated that the base of the issue was the computer, i took it to get a second opinion and the next mechanic stated the same thing,after talking to another mechanic from superior chevrolet, its the computer. i took it to superior chevrolet and had another diagnostic done ( which was another $100) and asked them to please look at the computer since i was told twice it was the issue. they told me it was the injector harness and it would cost $320. this issue has been ongoing for too long and looking online many others are having the same problem, something needs to be done about this, customer are spending lots of money on an issue that seems to be ongoing.

on numerous occasions since i got this car in 2010, the steering wheel has become very difficult, if not impossible at times, to turn when parallel parking. when the steering wheel is in extreme rotation, it becomes very rigid and difficult to turn, making it almost impossible to get into and out of a parallel parking spot. moreover, once the vehicle is out of the spot and on the road again, it takes several miles before the steering wheel is back to "normal." i took it to the dealership and the service department was able to duplicate the problem, but told me no parts would be replaced due to the fact that nothing was per se "defective." this notwithstanding, i continue to have this problem every other time i parallel park and have to turn the steering wheel in an extreme rotation.

this car has had a history of malfunctioning brake lights, esc and traction control system failures over the past year. the car has been in two different dealerships numerous times without repairing the root cause. in may the car was rear ended causing significant damage. the failure of the brake lights to operate correctly may have been a factor. the brake lights operate sporadically. the car is not currently safe to drive after spending last week at a dealership service department. being a licensed professional engineer it is my opinion that there are several engineering design deficiencies that are not addressed by the repair procedures listed within the service manual. i recommend that these cars be recalled as a car with no known problem can develop this problem without warning placing the driver in harms way. an 8d corrective action request would require a problem containment of issuing a recall immediately of any vehicle that has experienced this problem.

after the cruise control stopped working on my malibu, i noticed that the brake lights were staying on while driving. the brake lights are on while driving normally, then when the brake peddle is pressed lightly the lights turn off. after the peddle is depressed quite a bit (while braking for stopping or to make a sharp turn) the brake lights will turn back on. after releasing the brakes all the way, the lights will turn off and then back on again a few seconds later. every time the brake lights turn on, the cruise control stops working.

this has happened 2 times, once a few days after purchasing the vehicle june 2010 at 400 miles, and then again on 7/19/13 after the issue was supposedly fixed by dealer.i was assured by the service department that this would never happen again after the repair in 2010, it did. this vehicle stalls while driving. on 7/19/2013 i was traveling on the garden state parkway in traffic and the car suddenly stalled. everything went blank, the engine cut, no power steering, no instrument panels, no electrical what so ever. thank goodness i was able both times to coast on to the shoulder on the highway without consequence, but without turn signals, hazard lights, access to on star or the ability to hand signal as the windows are out. after being essentially powerless, the car does turn back on after it resets the internal clock to 1/1/2009. someone is going to get seriously injured or killed if this is not resolved, i was lucky to have not been hit both times. i am frightened that this will happen again and my job relies on me to travel long distances. this car is a death trap.

all four tires are losing air and have put air in 3 times. have been told the rims are cracked and that this is a common problem with this car. safety is of concern and it will cost $600 - $700 to fix. for what information i have gm is not doing a thing about it. i will not buy a gm car again if they do not resolve this issue.

2010 chevrolet malibu. attorney representing consumers writes in regards to vehicle front passenger air bag and seat belt malfunction. *smd the consumer was rear ended, which in turn caused him to rear end the vehicle in front of him. as a result of the impact, the consumers wife sustained a very serious closed head injury when her head struck the windshield, despite the fact she was a wearing her seat belt and the vehicle was equipped with frontal air bags that did not deploy. at the time of the accident, the consumer was stopped and despite the fact, he was approximately 1/2 to one car length behind the other vehicle. the front of the consumers vehicle struck the rear of the other vehicle moving it after impact. the vehicle was declared a total loss.

service air bag light came on . took car to dealer from which the car was purchased. dealer said that the passenger air bag connector on the wire harness had backed out. they reconnected the terminal and it repaired the problem. now 08/10/2013 service air bag light is back on. now that the car is no longer under there bumper to bumper warranty chances are that they will charge me to repair the same problem. so i researched the problem online and it seems that i am not the only one with a 2010 malibu that has this problem. to me this is a safety issue that chevy should recall but wont. its sad that the car only has 18,000 miles at this time and i have to take the car back for the same safety issue and pay to have it repaired. these air bags are installed on these vehicles for safety. you would think that any issue with safety that the dealer should be held accountable.

sometime around 70,000 mile when we would crank up the car we would hear a loud exhaust noise. after the car warmed up, the noise would go away. we took it into the local dealer and they said it was normal. we have also had engine running problems since early 2013. we now have over 106,000 miles on it and a local muffler repair shop diagnosed the noise as a cracked exhaust manifold. after checking with the local dealer, they stated that there have replaced several manifolds on various year model malibu's. however, we are over the mileage warranty. the exhaust manifold can only be sold as a single unit with the catalytic converter. i think it should be covered.

purchased vehicle at 30k miles at beginning of year and within the same year towards the end of the year upon start up the vehicle begin making a loud exhaust noise (several occassions). i took the vehicle into the dealersship on two seperate occassions and they were not able to diagnose it and gave the excuse the the older the vehicle gets the more apt it is to make noises and such. i'm a very educated young lady and i knew that statement to be just as false as two left shoes on a left and right foot and thus expressed that fact to the dealership who should be educated in the car that they are selling when it comes to body parts and likely problems. needless to say, after hitting the 70k mileage mark the vehicle air bag light begin to come on and off and still does; furthermore vehicle upon start up of the engine would lag as if something was not catching and preventing the vehicle from starting up properly, thus i would have to hold the key turned longer than usual. i am not satisfied with this vehicle at all. at 70k miles this vehcile should still be running flawlessly as it is regularly maintained and tuned-up. purchasing this vehicle was an epic fail. i am shocked that certain models and years have not been permanently recalled and replaced by a vehcile of owners choice from chevrolet (needless to say i probably would not purchase another chevy car) for the headeache we have had to endure. i have an infant and a toddler and the uncertainty of vehicle operation on any given day at any given time on a practically new vehcile needs to be the least of my concerns!

i was driving and my car went into a skid for no reason this had happend more then once there was dashlights that would come on one was the esc and tcs but they would go back off right away . i took the car to the dealership they said there was no codes . but they think the engine went into limp mode they relearned the power steering sensor . so i pick up my car but not haveing my car more then 10 min all lights came back on and stayed on i call the dealership back and told them . so i took the car back in on 8/21/13 this time they found a code and replaced the steering column . i think this is a big safety issues.for a car to go skidding and locking up .

there was an intermittent which caused the esc and traction control lights to flash, the alarm to sound and the words that they were off plus the words traction control and esc service to come up. at the time the cruise control disengaged. this occurred several times. i brought the vehicle to the dealer on sept 16th and was told that i shouldn't be concerned about this intermittent. but it occurred again and then on 10/2/13 the warnings stayed n permanently for three days frightening my wife. i brought the vehicle in for service today and they said they fixed the problem using some dielectric grease.

i was driving down main street in our town after just washing our 2010 malibu and the car started to loose power, the check engine light came on and the engine started to run rough and started to reduce power. with the check engine light that came on, the service esc, service traction, and eng pwr showed up on the display. i stopped the car and turned it off. it took about 5 minutes for the car to run correctly again. i took the car to an auto parts store and the code p2135 was showing. this is the 2nd time this had happened. the other time was on 10/01/2013 with 69,193 miles on it. i took the car to the local chevy dealer and they put some dielectric grease on some connectors. i called the chevy dealer again today for another appointment.

i was traveling approx. 30-35 mph, the roads were wet and slushy from a recent snow storm. suddenly i lost all power to steer....car did not stall, i was just unable to steer. i attempted to pull off the road and because i was unable to steer correctly....i went into the snow. i suffer from a neuro-muscular disease (ms) so i have limited ability to control the car without power steering. i proceeded to turn off the car, when i restarted it, the fault message on the dash disappeared and the power steering returned. i was able to back the car out and continue to a safe place to park. today i put a call into the dealer who sold me the car to see if their had been some sort of recall on the power-steering components. my next call tomorrow will be to chevy. i live in a snowy part of the country and i find this very dangerous and potentially could cause a serious accident. i checked the internet and i see many others who had the same problem. i don't know how to have this repaired as i am living on a limited income....social security. if so many people had the same problem, why hasn't chevrolet recalled these cars to make necessary changes so that this does not happen to others. while i am the primary driver of this car...it was bought for me by my boyfriend. the name on the registration is [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

i was travelling south on a 4 lane road that has a turn lane in the middle. my 2 right lanes were stopped so i proceeded into the turn lane to make a left turn. just as i was about to make my left turn a car came across the stopped lanes and proceeded to pull i front of me taking off the entire front of my car. the airbags did not deploy and i hit my chest on the steering wheel causing severe pain in my chest. i am sure that my trauma would have been less severe if the airbag had deployed.

traveling approx 40mph, esc sensor went off and power steering went out as i was beginning a right hand turn. turned off the car at the next stop light and restarted, service esc light and power steering were back to normal. continued to have the intermittent issue throughout the next few days to now where it stays on. car is still functional, but turning is extremely difficult and would be near impossible for some people. gm service is $900 for a new power steering motor + labor. i generally am willing to pay to get service, but electronic power steering has been an issue for many years and many models of gm vehicles. this is something that should be warrantied/recalled outside of bumper to bumper as it is a serious safety issue if it were to go off and be the cause of any accident. as far as i can tell, it has warrantied in the past based on the malibu forum information (2008 and previous).

the 2010 chevy malibu ( and other vehicles similarly equipped) were manufactured with defective door lock actuators. this has been experienced by thousands of gm vehicle owners. these defective actuators will fail and begin cycling without any input by the vehicle operator. a typical vehicle will be locked by the operator using the key fob and when the operator returns, the doors will have been unlocked essentially by themselves. this is a serious safety issue for persons traveling through high crime areas thinking the door is locked and the door has unlocked by itself. carjackers are not deterred by an unlocked door. also, it places the driver and passengers in danger of being partially ejected in a roll-over accident due to the unlocked condition of the door which has unlocked itself, again, without any action by the operator or passenger. these defective parts were installed at the time of manufacture and gm dealers are more than happy to charge $300 to $500 per door to replace the defective actuators. this is unconscionable regarding an integral part of the overall vehicle safety which should last long after the purchase of the vehicle. my vehicle has only 56,000 miles on it and the defective actuators are already malfunctioning. there are many thousands of gm consumers who are dealing with the same problem. gm should be required to recall all gen 7 malibu and any other gm vehicles which were equipped with these defective actuators. gm should be required to replace these defective factory actuators with non-defective replacements at no cost to the consumer.

the front drivers side and passenger side doors would not unlock after i put the car in park and turned off the engine, stranding me in the car. i ended up having to exit the vehicle from the rear doors. later that same day, the drivers side door opened, but then it would not shut as the door latch appeared to be in the locked position, and would not allow the door to close. the car is now being repaired at a gm dealer at a cost of close to $600, and since the warranty has expired, this is an out of pocket expense for me. it seems that opening the door, especially in the case of an emergency would be a basic operating function that i should reasonably expect my car to perform. i wanted to report this in case their are other chevrolet malibu owners experiencing the same issue.

on jan 15, 2014, at 2pm, while driving 55mph on a dry road, the dashboard message center displayed a warning of "ice possible". outside temperatures at the time were in the high 30's. the next day, jan 16, 2014, again around 2pm while traveling at approximately 55mph on a dry road, the dashboard message center displayed a warning of "ice possible" followed by a warning of "abs failure" and then immediately by a "low power" warning message. within seconds of the low power warning there was a complete loss of power. the dash board display went black, no flashers, turn signals, or lights. steering and brakes were functional but without power assist. there was no response during four attempts to restart the car. there were no signs of any power available. the key was removed and re-inserted and when the key was turned to start everything worked normally. we drove it home without further incident.

nov 2, 2013, security light comes on at start, won't turn off even after turning off, restarting. light stays on approx. 1 hr., turns off after next restart. nov. 10, 2013, hear "ding" - driving in stop & go traffic just before sundown. all lights on dash turn off, including radio. turn car off & restart. no dash lights, no radio. turn dash light knob "off" & then "on". lights reset. nov 28, 2013, driving approx. 65 mph on interstate. engine "chokes" for split second, but does not shut off. less powerful "chokes" next 30-45 mins. similar sporadic episodes continue -- last one march 1, 2014. initially thought problem was bad gas/contaminated fuel. changed to major oil companies first week of december. hasn't solved the problem. have notified the dealer. this is the second major electrical problem on the car. in april & may 2013, power steering shut-off, and various dash lights/door locks activated. dealer finally installed entirely new fuse panel, and those problems haven't occurred again.

i was driving my car down a city street and the service esc light came on and the reduced engine power light came on. the car's rpm's were surging back and forth. i did manage to get the car to my mechanic and get the throttle actuator cleaned off as he said it was dirty. now the service esc light intermittently is going off again and its been about two weeks. i don't want the reduced power to happen while i am on the highway.

the vehicle is a 2010 chevy malibu with less then 61,000 miles on it. i purchased the vehicle last year and the transmission has went out on it 3 times within a month. all three times i have taken it to an certified chevrolet dealership. after the second time they fixed my transmission the steering shaft was loose and i could have been killed or killed someone. after about 4 days after repairs the transmission will go out again. the car is not even 5 years old with 61,000 miles on it. this is truly disappointing, and it has cost me money and time.

the tps sensor was shot. the warranty didn't cover it. i got stranded on the highway at night because my car was bucking and i got scared because the power of the engine kept fluctuating. i later read about many other malibu owners that have had the same problem. this is a safety issue and should be looked at seriously by gm!

the power steering keeps going out...it has gone out on me as i was turning a corner and i went into someone's yard almost hitting a telephone pole. i have a hard time turning the wheels when it goes out and my wife drives this car everyday. this is very unsafe and could injure someone. chevrolet should have a recall or give vouchers to get it fixed since i was quoted a price of $700 to get this resolved. why does it take someone dyeing to get recalls to happen?

the power steering will stop working and across the information center screen will scroll "power steering malfunction, service esc". while driving you can feel the steering wheel jerking from side to side, and when stopped you can release the wheel and visually see the steering wheel jerk from side to side. i called my local chevrolet dealer about the issue, and they said that they know exactly what the problem is because of the number of calls they have received on other malibu's showing the same issue. i was told that they would have to replace the column and it would run approx. $900. i was also told that they had the same issue in the models 4-8 years prior to mine and that they were allowed to fix those per gm. if the issue has happened before in the same model of car why wouldn't that fix be grandfather for future model years if suffering from the same issue? the issue i was told is from a faulty steering wheel angle position and torque sensor.

i was traveling on a side road and the vehicle shut down completely. i was told this was due to a faulty throttle position sensor. had i been traveling at a high rate of speed on a busy highway, it is likely there would have been serious injury. chevrolet did not respond to my concern and i ended up trading in the vehicle for a non-gm product. viewing the recent recalls for faulty ignition switch (that i realize was not the issue with my car) caused me to report this in the event others have had this issue and hopefully prevent serious injury or loss of life.

i own a 2010 chevy malibu and have had issues with my brake lights coming on when i am not applying the brake. i took my car in and had the brake light switch replaced and the issue is still happening. this is a huge safety issue when my brake lights come on without me applying the brake. in addition, there are time the lights do not come on when i apply the brake.

right rear tire consistently lost 5 to 10 lbs. pressure every two to three days, believed to be temperature change related, perhaps slow leak. tires had approximate 20,000 miles left on them ,but grew tired of the constant problem. on 09/21/2013 replaced both rear tires with new tires, problem persisted. on 09/28/2013 had dealer replace with factory rim ($339.32) problem solved. on 02/15/2014 same problem front right, added air every two to three days for the past few weeks, and on 03/18/2014 left front began same issue. now forced to replace both front rims, they will not be factory replacements.

at first i lost power steering when traveling high speeds on the highway. now the power steering fails with just short trips around town. this is a huge safety concern, especially for my wife. she does not have the strength to turn the wheel at slow speeds. i do not want to pay accident surcharges on top of the repair bill for this issue. this power steering issue is documented all over the web and affects many models that have the electronic power steering box. there is a problem with the electric power steering box related to the electronic stability control (esc) and the steering wheel position sensor. the steering wheel position sensor cannot be replaced at this time (or maybe never). the entire steering column must be replaced. this is at a very costly expense when a cheaper repair is an option. i researched a car owner who had to replace the steering column three times due to failure of the position sensor and there is no recourse for us consumers. every 20,000 miles after warranties were expired. i am 50 years old and have only owned american made cars, just about all gm products. if this issue does not get resolved in a professional way i will be going to the ford product. i hope i will not be forced to the foreign cars for the reason i will not return to gm if they do not stand behind their products. i am optimistic at this point i can remain a happy gm consumer. i research i have found the mini cooper had the same issue of power steering failure. they stood behind their product and offered a 13 year or 200,000 mile warranty on the power steering module. http://www.norcalminis.com/2013/05/mini-power-steering-pump-warranty.html this would be a very wise choice to offer this solution with the recent of the recall with the ignition shutting off while the car is operational causing fatalities.

my wife was driving and the power steering just stoped functoning and became very hard to steer she was able to pull into a store and after a time restarted the car and it was fine . g.m. has a recall that started on 3/31/14 on 2007, 2008, 2009, chevy malibu but not on 2010 malibu i checked with the dealer they said that their have been many other 2010 malibu with this same problem. we are older 65 and 67 and cannot afford to pay for a repair hope there is not a accident.

the headlamps provide poor visibility. the illumination of the low beams is only about 15 feet in front of the vehicle. this requires us to drive with the high beams on most of the time. however, when oncoming traffic are coming, we switch back to low beams. we have tried various light bulbs but that didn't fix the issue. my husband has physically tried to tilt the light bulbs, but that doesn't work either. there needs to be a redesign of the headlamps to provide better visibility. poor visibility can cause accidents. we purchased this vehicle as a used vehicle in april 2012. i have always had this problem, just decided it was time to report it.

so gm recalls the steering on 2004-06, 08, 09....i have an 2010 that has the same issue that is happening with the steering. i fortunately knew what to do when i lost my power steering doing 70+ mph on i-39. i ended up paying over $500 to have my steering fixed and that is just for one of the sensors...what about a recall on all the cars that have this system?????

error 1. warning errors on dashboard state service esc, service traction; noticed just after oct 2011 purchase. brake position sensor replaced. problem still occurs on and off to this day (april 2014). two services have not fixed this problem. error 2. cruise control would stop working on it's own while at hwy speeds; noticed dec 2011. cruise currently (april 2014) will not engage at any speed. error 3. brake lights will turn on without pedal depression at any speed and conversely when brake pedal is depressed brake lights will turn off; noticed apr 2012. problem still occurring on and off today (april 2014) . the cruise control and brake light issues are huge safety concerns and with more than 20 almost identical complaints documented and at least one crash, why is nothing being done?

i started the vehicle and began to backup. the vehicle suddenly lost power steering. i put the vehicle into "park" and then immediately turned the vehicle off and then on again and the power steering function returned and functioned normally. this has happened on (3) occasions. i took the vehicle to my local chevrolet dealer, but they said that they could not replicate the problem. i submitted a complaint online on (3) occasions to gm, but they never responded. i'm surprised that this vehicle is not included in the recent recall concerning loss of power steering. ps... sorry, but i don't answer phone calls that are not familiar.

on march 24,2014 as i was turning the corner making a left turn and my power steering went out, luckily the car that was ahead of me was able to move. i went up on a curb because the steering wheel locked as i was turning. i took the car in to gorden chevrolet in garden city on the following day march 25,2014 they verified my concern, they inspected and found internal fault in the electric power steering motor and module. necessary to replace steering column and control module $1259.00...this car needs to be a part of the recall list also, i am so upset that my car was not included because now after i paid my car note last week i have to figure out a way to get my car fixed. really gm???

the air bag service message appeared in the driver information center and the air bag service light came on. it went back off before i could get it to the dealer. nevertheless i took it in to see what the problem was. the service department suggested i keep driving it to see if the light would come on and stay on so that they could get a code to diagnose. i asked about the previous recall to see if the manufacturer is responsible for this problem. i was told i would have to pay for any diagnosis and repairs since it was out of warranty. they did not acknowledge that this has been a historical problem for this model and that there are still issues with the air bags on this model. since then the air bag service message continues to come on and then after a period of time,ranging from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, goes back off. there was a recall on air bag connectors which we had completed on 5/25/2011. i am very uncomfortable driving the vehicle because the air bag service light comes on with no warning and i don't want to be in an accident and not have the air bags work.

i was driving on the expressway 70mph and my power steering alert came on and my power steering went out. i exited the expressway and stopped at a gas station turned off the car and when i turned the car back on the power steering worked again. however, the incident occured 3 times the next day on my way home from work (however not on my way to work that morning). each time i had to pull over and turn the car off and on again. took the car to the dealership and had to pay over $600 to have my steering column replaced. now there is a recall for several of the previous models of the malibu, but not my 2010, although i did experience this same problem. i purchased my 2010 malibu in november of 2009. if more information is needed please feel free to contact me.

i was driving back to work on my lunch break and three alerts came across the screen. 1)service esc 2) engine power reduced 3) service traction my vehicle would barely gain speed. when i was forced to stop at a red light, and the light finally turned green i was nearly rear ended as the car behind me was accelerating, and my car would barely creep forward. i was able to make it to my work parking lot as my vehicle almost did not get up to speed. our vehicle is going to a chevrolet dealership tomorrow to determine what is causing this.

i have several complaints about this car that i believe to be manufacturer defects. the most serious issue i found today (4/19/2014) when i smelled gas outside of my car. upon looking underneath my car i found my gas tank leaking onto my exhaust pipe. i consider this to be a recall issue because there is absolutely no damage to the undercarriage of my car. one of the other serious issues i have found with my car include a brake light issue. my car was occasionally showing a "service traction/ esc" error code, which could not be explained by any mechanic or even a chevy dealership themselves. it wasn't until a friend following me pointed out that my brake lights didn't seem to be working right, did i realize i was having an issue. the brake lights do the exact opposite of what they should, but only on the occasions said error code is showing. i looked into the issue online and found this to be a common problem. chevy has not been able to give me a solution to this problem. the third major safety issue i'd like to point out, i know from experience is not exclusive to my car. when i sit in the passenger seat of my malibu, among every malibu i have ever been, the passenger side airbag does not turn on. i am 26 and weigh 94lbs, so i don't know if my size is the reason i do not engage the airbag!? the final defect i had to deal with involved my driver side rim. i had a tiny little hair line crack on the inside of my rim, causing me to loose a lot of air in my tire. i consider this a manufacturer defect because my rim was not damaged in any other way shape or form. i had a hard time obtaining a new rim, because (according to everyone i called) the rim was in high demand. please look into these issues and consider adding them to gm's current recall list. thank you for reviewing my concerns. ..updated 04-23-14 *bf

the first time i was stopped at a stop sign when my car shut off. it would not started. i had it towed to the dealer, they said it was the fuel pump which they replaced. i had the car 1 day when it did the same thing only this time it shut off while i was driving, luckily it was not on a busy highway. after having it towed to the dealer they told me there were no codes coming up and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. after about an hour i received a call that they needed to send my car back to gm because they found metal shavings in the engine.

power steering warning plus the check electrical system came on when we started the car, and the steering would not work. we were at the time in the north carolina mountains. we turned the ignition off, tried again, and the power steering returned. nonetheless this made for a scary trip down mountain roads. this failure did not occur again for several months. then in the winter of 2013-2014 it began to happen more frequently. in april 2014 we told the chevrolet service advisor who said to bring in the car while the steering was not on power. so we did with difficult steering in city traffic. the advisor diagnosed steering column failure. gm has offered to pay part of the price of repair. this offer came after extensive conversations with gm and the local dealer with whom we have done a significant amount of business.

on this date i was attempting to depart on vacation. i got in my car which was parked in my garage and the engine would not crank. it was in park. i instructed my wife to call aaa. while she was gone i opened the door to try again and the car started to roll down the driveway. foolishly i got behind the car to stop it and got sandwiched between my car and the neighbors. i broke both my legs, had surgery and was hospitalized for a month and am having therapy and cannot walk or work. i reported this to gm in livonia michigan as instructed by my dealership and have heard nothing. since then twice the car has been in park with the engine off and has started to roll backward. since i cannot work and could not pay my bills i have had to file for bankruptcy. i had the car checked by the dealership and they said it was fine

i started my car to back up and the service esc indicator came on and then the service power steering came on. i had no power steering. i tried backing up but could barely move the car. i ended up shutting the care off and restarted it and the power steering came back. this went on for a day or so. once while driving the lights came on and i had no power steering. this could have cause an accident while driving. luckily i was on a straight part of the high way, with children inside. i cannot understand if there are recall on all models prior to my 2010 and this is an ongoing problem why doesn't gm extend the warranty or pay for this. it is costing me $700 to be fixed. the entire steering column is being replaced. my car has been in the shop for over 14 days. this is so wrong and i will never ever boy another gm car!

was driving a curvey road when a digital warning on the column sounded and the power steering went out, and it was difficult to negociate the curve. i checked went a got the steering fixed at a dealer ship and then found out that there had been a recall issued for the 2008-2009 malibu, the 2009 and 2010 hhr and the 2010 cobalts but not the 2010 malibu.

i own a 2010 chevy malibu. my previous complaint number in the nhtsa data base is 10575915. this is an update to the well know intermittent electric power steering (eps) loss for recall bulletin: 14116. however this bulletin only covers up to 2009 chevy malibus. i own a 2010 chevy malibu with the defective electric power steering issue. after a phone call and waiting several days for a return call from gm help desk i called back and was informed to bring my car to a local chevy dealer to confirm that i have this same electronic power steering issue. it was verified that i do have the same issue that thousands of cars are being recalled about. it was highly recommended that i do not take the car off the lot without getting it repaired for the reason of a safety issue losing power steering. i did object to this repair but was assured by gm support that a bulletin covering my 2010 chevy malibu would be coming out at the end of the month and i would receive a reimbursement form. hesitant, i did do the repair of $996. after a week of calling gm support with escalating my situation and many unreturned phone calls i was persistent in calling back. unfortunately even though this is the confirmed issue as the recall bulletin 14116 for the defective power steering that is covered only until 2009. my 2010 is not covered and there is no recall bulletin anyone is aware of that will cover this issue for the reason my vin number is not covered. i was told it could take years, if it ever will happen at all. this is highly discouraging that it was officially verified that i have the same eps issue that thousands of cars are receiving repairs and my car is not covered because of the year and vin number. even more discouraging is that gm will not stand behind their product in this issue. why did we ever bail this company out with taxpayer money? too big to fail? too big to care!

in december of last year and january of this year i had sporadic problems with the power steering unit in my vehicle. my vehicle is a 2010 chevrolet malibu. in particular, i had difficulty starting the vehicle and maneuvering the vehicle whether it was in park or drive. once i started the vehicle i would get a flash message on the dashboard telling me to check the power steering and i was unable to drive and/or turn the wheel on the vehicle. this happened on a number of occasions. i had the problem fixed. the work that was performed on my vehicle, included replacing the entire steering column due to a bad torque sensor. i paid for the repair and am seeking a reimbursement given the fact that other customers are being compensated for similar problems. i understand the 2009 vehicle is recognized as being affected, but not the 2010.

i would be driving and the car steering wheel will lock up and the car would cut off sometimes. setting at the traffic light the with foot on the breaks the car feels like its going to take off even when its in park driving on the interstate it would slow down by it self and then speed up. took it to the dealer 3 times they said they could not find any thing wrong ones said i just needed a battery tried to sale me one for $268.00 i end up buying one from a auto store. after that went back paid them $542.00 for services and the car still doing the same thing. look like they have a recall on the 2010 malibu with the recall number 93696 on the power train automatic transmission gear the position indication but they said that's not my vehicle said they have had no recalls on the 2010 chevy malibu lt. engine light comes on esc light comes on some other 3 letter alphabet light comes on. wheel traction light comes on all the time if it reads the front driver tire is low when you check it it's the rear passenger tire that's it reading all indicators are wrong. i'm still making payments on a car that i am afraid to drive if i trade the car in then i would be upside down paying for that car still. they are the ones who put the car together so they should figure it out. i know they are aware that somethings is wrong they just don't know what to do. but keep telling me to bring it back mean while they just keep making money off of me, and the car still not running right this need to be address before someone else get seriously hurt or killed, driving these defected chevy vehicles. they need to recall the whole car or replace them. look like chevy made a lemon that they can't fix are want fix.

driving down the highway and the cruise stopped working. shortly after that happened the traction control indicator and abs light came on. a message appeared to have those items serviced. this lasted for the remainder of my 20 minute drive. i started the vehicle back up after sitting for several hours and the lights were off and no message. this happened 4 more times until december. i did not notice that the brake lights stayed on until i was driving at night. i pressed the brake pedal and the brake lights would go out. the brake lights would come back on shortly after i depressed the brake pedal. there were times when just the cruise control would stop working and the brake lights worked incorrectly.

brake light illuminate without pressing the brake pedal. when brake pedal is pressed then lights go off for a brief moment then go back on. while accelerating brake lights come on and stay on. i have nearly had several close encounters. i have had this issue twice already. first time the dealer repaired it and that lasted a year. it reoccurred and i have taken it to an independent mechanic in which he replaced the brake pedal sensor and had it diagnosed. i am still having this occurrence. this is absolutely ridiculous to have this reoccurring problem. every time they want a fee plus repair charge. they are making money both by car payment and repairs. what the hell??? frustrated with chevrolet.

so about 2 months ago the service traction light came on briefly and didn't come back on for a while. then about 2 weeks ago it started going off almost everytime i drove. i brought it to the dealership that i bought it in kannapolis, nc called classic chevrolet on 5/3/14. they said i could pay 98.00 to get it hooked up to the computer reader, but the light was off so i decided i didn't really have 98.00 to waste. as it had been hooked up to a code reader when the light was off before and didn't read anything. there is an option to turn off the traction control so i was driving with it off. we went to michigan on 5/8/14 it was driving fine. light never came on. when we were in michigan it started going on again, again driving with the traction control off. it was hooked up to a computer and no codes came up and light goes off when you turn it off and never came back on our whole way home. nothing felt or sounded different with the driving. driving fine to drop off our son at practice this morning 5/17/14, turned on car to go pick him up and couldn't reverse, but would go forward. i had my husband and his brother push us out of the driveway and it was driving fine for the first 3 blocks, then started to chug and wouldn't shift correctly leaving a stop light. i turned around on a circle drive. we live on a culdesac so i pulled ahead of our house, so we could push it back in the drive way. when my husband came back out it was like locked, we couldn't push it in reverse. then it wouldn't go forward. my husband unhooked the battery and was able to reverse with struggle and pull into the driveway with struggle. during all of this, the brakes have been illuminating when not being pushed and sometime they don't even work.

upon arriving at my destination i attempted to exit vehicle but the driver's door would not open. it could not be opened from either the inside or the outside. tried locking and unlocking the door from the key remote, from the buttons on the door and manually and tried the key in the door but nothing would allow the door to open. ultimately had to climb over the console to the passenger side to exit vehicle. fortunately i was able to do so, some people (due to age, health, size, etc.) would not have been able to. if i had been in a situation where i needed to exit the vehicle quickly i would not have been able to do so and no one would have been able to open the door to help me. i consider this to be a safety issue, especially if there had been a fire. gm is aware of the problem as they have issued a tsb. a quick search on the internet shows thousands of reports of the same problem from owners of many different gm vehicles, not just the malibu, dating back at least six years. i hope there doesn't have to be a fatality due to this before gm issues a recall to fix the problem.

approaching 4-way stop sign and car began to jerk/could not accelerate and service traction/ esc light came on...had enough power to roll into a parking lot and shut the car off..restarted the car and it stopped doing this. i was able to contact a chevrolet dealer (i was on a 6 hour trip and this happened 2 hours into my trip:-( i was able to drive the car about 8 miles to the dealer. had to have a part called electronic throttle body. i also have another issue with the brake lights not functioning properly...being serviced now.

intermittent problem, occurring at least five times since date above. one or more of the following conditions noted: 1. cruise control fails to engage, or stops engaging. indicator light on (on/off wheel toggle switch), but no engage. 2. "service esc" and alternating "traction control" warning with alarm tone on speedo cluster. orange warning triangle illuminated, also. 3. brake lights constant on, with no foot on brake pedal. or, brake lights can go off when brakes are applied. confusing, possibly dangerous, to drivers immediately following. once aware of this, fashioned a reflector fitting just behind the rear top mount brake light that reflects into my rear-view mirror. these problems can clear after car is stopped for a time (over 45 minutes) and may not appear again for another unknown interval. already replaced (march 31, 2014) a brake position sensor switch ($186.60 - my cost) at local selling chevrolet dealership. this did nothing to fix the problem and when asked, dealer claimed no knowledge of any tsbs or of others having issues similar.

the brake light comes on when the brake pedal is not being pushed. it doesn't matter if the car is sitting in park or being driven on the highway, the brake light stays on when the pedal is not pushed. when the brake pedal is pushed, the brake light goes off. not only does that happen but the traction control light on the panel goes off for no apparent reason and stays on. this is a hazard as i have had many close encounters. the first time of the incident my vehicle was under warranty and the dealer applied some kind of lubricant. it worked for about a year then the problem occured again. i have had an independent mechanic look at the vehicle and he replaced the brake sensor which did not seem to solve the problem. when contacted the chevrolet dealer where i purchased the vehicle they have told me i would have to pay the dianostic fee. i explained about the vehicle recall and was told my vehicle was not under recall. what the hell!!! are they waiting for an accident to occur or death before they resolve this problem. i do not think they know what the problem is theirselves. why should i have to pay them again if this isn't going to be resolved. i am really frustrated with them. really need this to be resolved.

all in one weekend (while out of town) first the vehicle would not respond to cruise control commands (engage or disengage) if engaged through the steering column controls. the service esc light keeps coming off and on at random while either sitting or driving. the esc tracking is turned off. brake lights will illuminate randomly when my foot is not on the brakes. tapping the brakes gets the light to turn off, but it turns on again 5-6 seconds later. when i put my foot on the brake to slow down or tap the brake the light does not come on. the brake lights are only coming on when i'm at a complete hard stop. this is extremely dangerous as i have over a 40 minute commute into the city each day. also, the seatbelt light and beeping is on even when my seatbelt is secured. i cannot afford to have these items replace, and i have 4 years to pay on this car! there is something seriously wrong with these items in my car.

i called gm and was told that my car was included on the recent recall issued may 14, however there are no parts available yet to fix. i was also made aware that this recall fix would only fix the brake lamps and that the other issues i.e cruise control, electronic stability control, and traction control are not a part this recall. i am issuing another complaint due to reading many other complaints of this same issue and that need to be addressed by gm. this is a potential dangerous issue that can cause serious injury, not to mention with the brake lamps staying illuminated and turn off when the pedal is pressed currently. there should be an immediate recall since the issues included in the recent recall will not be addressed and has made me a dissatisfied gm owner. i hope the nhtsa will further investigate complaints and pressure gm to completely fix these defects immediately.

i was stopped at a stop light when my car stalled. the cabin started filling up with smoke. the lights would not work. the trunk would not open. the locks would not work. the smoke was coming from the trunk. i had the car towed to the dealership. it was determined that the fuse box in the trunk was melting the junction box and main body harness. my insurance company picked up the claim and made repairs. there is now a recall on these cars for this type of failure.

following the recall fix for id#93696 i experienced the "service enc" warning. a short time later i began experiencing the "traction" warning coming on. i now have problems when trying to use the cruise control feature. and just recently i get a intermittent dinging sound, that sounds like the seatbelt warning, that comes on in spite of the seat belt being hooked securely. i have repeatedly brought these issues to the attention of the ruda chevrolet dealership only to have them blow me off. i became persistent and contacted gm directly and they instructed ruda to replace the break pedal position sensor. however this fix has not made any difference. i continue to have the same issues. i am becoming increasingly concerned regarding the safety of this $27,000 vehicle. i understand that i may, at some point, also experience brake light issues as well. something needs to be done. i am a pancreatic cancer patient who has to drive 2 hours one way to see my specialist. i have enough stress in my life!!!

when we drive this auto in the rain, or after going through a car wash, the car goes into the "limp" mode and the service lights come on and remain on until the car drys again. took it to the dealer the first time and was told that this is an inherent problem. we have had the car for 4 years and it still does that. we never drive it if we know it will be raining but am afraid that if we do drive it and it starts raining, that the car will just stop running. neither i nor the dealer knows what is getting wet and causing the problem but it should be investigated. i spoke with maria at gm customer service this morning and she said she has had other calls complaining about this problem. she does not know if anyone is investigating it or not. she asked if i had notified nhtsa and i said i had not. she confirmed that it might be a good idea to do that.

the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely rough to turn. additionally, the air bag warning light would illuminate intermittently and the battery continued to drain prematurely. the contact also stated that the rear suspension was unstable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. the contact was traveling on the highway when the rear suspension failure recurred and the vehicle swayed violently toward the driver�s side of the vehicle. the steering wheel seized and as the contact applied force to the steering wheel, the steering wheel seized and the contact crashed into a tree. the air bags only partially deployed. the driver sustained severe injuries and the jaws of life were used to remove an injured passenger from the vehicle. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v460000 (power train). the contact received the recall notification after the crash occurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failures several times but to no avail. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

my service esc/service traction control indicator was flashing. it caused my car to stall, then the engine died in the middle of the road with traffic approaching behind me. i have had this problem before and it caused my brake lights to illuminate when not depressed and go off when the brakes were pressed. i am not sure if this was happening also as it was light outside and i could not see. the car started afterward and still periodically stalls or dies when the service esc/service traction control indicator lights up. as of 6-13-14, i have not received notice that my vin is affected by the latest recall for the brake light problem.

when i started the engine on my 2010 chevrolet malibu, the information center displayed the message "power steering" and service esc" and when trying to drive the car, it was extremely difficult to steer. after driving about 200 feet in a parking lot, i realized steering was too difficult and driving the car was unsafe. i turned off the ignition and restarted the engine, and luckily the problem temporarily went away. however, i had this problem reoccur again over 20 times between 2/2014 to 4/2014. for my own safety and fear that the issue could worsen and appear at any time while driving, i proactively took the car into my local chevrolet dealer, where they diagnosed and fixed the problem. here is their diagnosis and fix: cause code: c0545 torque sensor corrective action: replaced steering column i have also opened a case# with general motors/chevrolet customer assistance and repeatedly contacted them about the issue because i feel it is the same symptoms and resolution as outlined in the recent 31mar2014 (electric) power steering recall found at the following link: [ http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/news.detail.html/content/pages/news/us/en/2014/mar/0331-power-steering.html ]. chevrolet customer assistance, however, indicated that my vin number/vehicle is not covered under the recall and will not reimburse me for the repair. i am contacting the nhtsa to inform them that vehicles not listed under the above recall, namely the 2010 chevrolet malibu, potentially have the same problem/safety issue and require the same repair. i hope that the nhtsa encourages general motors to reassess the vehicles covered under the current recall and extend the recall to also include the 2010 chevrolet malibu model year.

while driving my 2010 chevy malibu lt (ecotech engine), the engine starts to stutter and the esc shuts off and claims it needs servicing. the esc will go on and off randomly. the check engine light comes on as well. i have had the codes read multiple times and changed multiple parts but to no avail. it keeps stating that there is a misfire in cylinder 1. have changed spark plugs and coil packs. the stuttering happens at all speeds, including while accelerating and idling. there's also been times of tough steering as if the power steering is not working properly. i have noticed it happens more often in late spring through summer when the temperatures outside are higher. i have checked and there is not a crack in the head gasket or the head.

the automatic transmission would shift into neutral while at red lights and/or driving without warning. i reported it to my dealer and because the technicians could not replicate or get an error message i was dismissed. upon dismissal at the dealership the transmission disengaged again. i notified onstar and refused to move the car without a tow. only then did my dealer begrudgingly replace my transmission, however, they did not bolt it down. another dealer finished the repair. i have since traded the vehicle, however, considering what is going on with general motors, this is another model that should be investigated.

i have taken my car to the gm dealer three times in the past year. each time they stated that they had repaired the "brake signal" and that was the problem. however, even with the current recalls for the same problem, when i called gm dealer last week, they stated that the "charges would be at least $150 to connect to the computer and run diagnostics". well, since i have already spent $500 for the last 3 visits, where they did not listen to me and fixed something was not torn up, why would i waste money on the same issue. there is a recall.. gm states that the recall is not for my specific vehicle, although the problems i have had for one year are the same problems they are recalling the 2010 chev malibu for at this time. supposedly, they will recall mine later.. i guess i just wait and hope i do not have a wreck until then. driving along the highway at any speed, the car will suddenly feel as if i have pressed the brake pedal and pumped it. the esc and service traction lights then come on. the brake lights then come on when i do not have the brake pedal pushed. when i do press the brake pedal the brake light goes off. i have had to have my brakes changed several times since this began. it also uses more gas since my car thinks i am riding my brakes and pressing the gas also.

while on the highway the service traction control warning light came on as did the esc warning light. i tried to engage the cruise control but it would not work. we stopped at a rest area and turned the ignition off for about 20 minutes. we resumed our trip with the cruise control engaged and traveled for approx. 10 minutes. at that point the warning lights illuminated and the cruise control would not work. every time we drive the car now, the warning lights now come on within a quater mile. i saw a recall for this same problem but was told my vin number was not included.the car is at the dealers and will be repaired. hopefully. i think my car and many others should be under a recall.

in january of 2014 , my father noticed there was a huge dark spot on my side of the drive way. so later in the day i take my car to valvoline and they let me know that my care is leaking oil. i take the car to sallas auto shop and they tell me that my cars axel shaft has a lot of play, which is causing the axel seal to leak, which shouldnt be the case because it was repaired before i purchased the car. they deem my car unsafe to drive and they have me leave my car at the shop so they can fix it. not even a week later its leaking again so i take it back to them and they cant really figure out why its still leaking so they do a full body inspection and find that, not only has it been leaking but its been shooting shrap metal into my transmission(causing me to later have to actually replace the whole transmission). so i take my car back to the guy i bought it from and he tries to fix it and claims he stopped the leak. not trusting his skills i finally take it to chevy and after having it "fixed" several prior times, chevy actually fixes it this time around. apparenetly there is a special tool that has to be used to repair this particular part that not a lot of mechanics have, but chevy does. ive done my research online and this has happened to a few other people, which seems to be a manufacturing issue. because of the leak my car was deemed undrivable for prevention of an accident, i was out of a car for about a week and a half as well as the costs of getting this problem repaired.

my 2010 malibu is now making a creaky/clunky noise when steering into a turn. it is most noticeable at slow speeds. i know the power steering motor has been an issue in prior model years. this vehicle is currently under the recall for the brake light / traction control / cruise control issues under recall # 13036. there has been no diagnosis done on the power steering as i will bring this to the dealer's attention when i bring the vehicle in for the known recall repairs. the car is now grounded until the repairs can be made as it is just too unsafe to drive at this point.

support bar underneath the driver's seat severed and the result was that the seat came off of the right bracket. the seat was resting on only the left bracket. general motors would not cover under any warranty even though car was undriveable due to serious safety concern. general motors stated that i somehow had caused the support bar to break. it cost me $750 for a new seat and the labor to replace. i am in possession of the seat and to me it looks like a faulty weld or a defective support bar. i find it impossible that i some how broke a thick steel bar just by getting in and out of the vehicle.

i received a recall notice 1 week prior to this incident. recall #13036. i was almost rear ended when my brake lights failed. i was on my way home from work and watched my stability control and traction warning lights come on. i contacted gm and was told that no replacement parts are available. gm also stated that they are not responsible for towing or a rental even though it is a defect in the design and/or manufacture of the body control module. i have been without a car for 4 days at this point and gm stated that no replacement parts are yet available. my car is a shiny peice of junk that i can pay for yet cannot drive because of the defect. i am a veteran and i am absolutely disgusted. all of the above problems are directly related to the defective part.

i keep getting a "service traction control" message when and only when i am sitting in the car in "park". also another issue is the car just dies as i turn the steering wheel to the left in a turn or on a curve. dealer says they cannot duplicate the issues. i call "bull****" as i cannot stop the issue not only that but the dealer has charged me $300 plus for the repair? say what?

the engine has an eco-tech it is getting fuel in oil , you can smell it on cap. this is causing the engine to burn oil , use more gas.the car only has 27000 miles on it. excellent condition. using oil at an accelerated rate, you have to monitor or valves chatter. the motor cant last in this state, please add to recall list

water leaks inside the car when it rains outside or when i go through a car wash. the issue wasn't detected at the time of purchase however it was noticed several months later during a period of frequent and heavy rain. the issue began with water dripping only near the brake pedal, however over time the issue has spread to an area between the driver's door and front windshield. water now leaks from both areas when it rains and/or when i drive through a car wash. if i park on an incline, sometimes the water will drain from the car. also, the water has stained my interior, leaves a moldy smell and over time i will assume that the issue will spread even further or may damage the interior roof. because water leaks from above, it soaks all of the buttons on the door (windows, locks, etc) as well as the button to heat the seat - hopefully that does not create an electrical issue.

i noticed while driving one morning my brake lights were illuminated, but i was not depressing the brakes. when i pushed the brake pedal, the brake lights went off. at this very same time when i tried to set the cruise control, it would not allow me to do so. this has been an on-again, off-again issue. some days it works correctly but other days the same problem persists. i researched online and saw that there was a recall by gm for this exact problem, recall id# 14v252000, but when i called the dealership and they checked my vin # they said that my car was not under the recall, and that they would have to take my car and see if it happens to them in order to fix it. i read the recall and it is exactly the issue that i am having. please help and add mine, and i'm sure others, vin#'s to this recall before something horrible happens!
