POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

the 2010 impala was at hwy speeds and in cruise control at approx 65mph. the car got a front twitch that turned into a vibration. the cruise started to surge approx one hour into the trip. the traction control light came on, the check engine light a couple seconds later and the message display was flashing traction control failure, drive at reduced speeds and ignition failure. the traction control failed at hwy speeds leaving the driver coasting to reduced speeds and then the car shut off at 20 mph with no power steering or braking. this is the second time this has happened. both times cars approached at hwy speeds while i was slowing down without brake lights.

tl*the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet impala equipped with good year radial tire p225-55r17 95t, department of transportation number m643hhdr061, serial number 0266496130292535. the contact noticed the passenger front tire failed. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who stated that the failure was located at the tire sidewall which had a leak. the dealer was contacted they advised the failure was not due to a defected side wall. the dealer stated the contact drove over an object on the road causing the tire to fail and they will not be responsible for the cost for the tire replacement. the tire was replaced. the failure mileage was 3,500 and the current mileage was 39,050.

tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet impala. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle began to slowly and abnormally drift to the right. the contact had to abruptly hold the steering wheel and pull to the left in order to control the steering. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a front alignment was performed yet the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a second time and the tires were rotated. the contact continued to experience the failure and took the vehicle back to the dealer where the tires were replaced but to no avail. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that because they were unable to diagnose the failure, they could not provide any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 200.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

may 9th, i parked my car in a school parking lot . upon trying to move the car to go home i could not get it to go in to gear. i called for a tow truck, while waiting for a tow a friend of mine helped me remove the center console to see if we could locate the issue. we ended up having to manually depress a button on the side of the shifting system to get the car to go into gear. once out of park the shifter moved freely between r/n/d. on 5-22-2010, while traveling approximately 15-20mph on my home street in my neighborhood the left front (driver) tie rod snapped in half sending my car up over the sidewalk curb and into the grass/trees. the car jerked hard left and was surging forward and hard to control and kept jerking pulling and surging for approx 75 feet until i was able to gain some control and get mycar back onto my street and into my driveway. it is undrivable and am waiting on a tow to the local chevy dealership to address these issues.

took 2010 impala ltz to have oil changed and tires rotated. they found the front tires to be worn badly on the inside of each tire. the driver's side had much worse wear with the steel cords visible. we bought the car from a dealership with over 10,000 miles on it. it now has 19,000. in an online search, we found that the car had work done on the steering before we purchased it. it still has a problem with a growling sound in the steering at times. could that effect tire wear?

i am the owner of 3 quick lube centers and service thousands of vehicles per month. there is a problem with the valve stems on the newer tires with the tpms. the metal used is substandard, they break very easily. i have seen them break by taking off the metal cap covering the valve stem. i have had to repair close to one hundred of these because of the substandard metal being used. this is a safty issue, i hope you can look into this. you asked to identify a spcific make and model and i chose a 2010 chevy impala, but many manufactures use these valve stems *tt

my 2010 chevrolet impala has only 43, 279 miles and began making a loud high pitched screeching noise while accelerating. after two visits to two separate mechanics it was determined both times that a new power steering pump was needed. both mechanics were in shock due to the failure as the amount of miles on the car. i contacted gm customer care as i was sure this was still under warranty. much to my surprise this is not under warranty. i have had this car 1 year and 3 months and for this to fail i am not a happy chevrolet owner. gm told me i could have it repaired and then wait for them to make a decision on whether i 'qualified' for assistance. in this economy and at this time of the year who has time to pay up front and wait for them to make a decision.

i was making a right hand turn on a surface road when vehicle suddenly lost power steering assist. dealer service department diagnosed as no pressure from power steering pump. it was determined that shaft had broken on the pump. installed power steering pump kit (06605-c) and new shaft. replaced power steering fluid.

i own a 2010 chevy impala on a short trip to shankville, pa. as i tried to slow down by tapping the brakes and the vehicle began to shake and pulsate violently. this happened again as i was taking my wife to the airport. the vehicle will begin to shake violantly when i apply the brakes at around 60 to 65 mph. i took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that the rotors are warped, and i should get new brakes with new rotors. i informed the individual that the vehicle had just had its yearly state inspection done by them in march of 2012 this was early august 2012 and the vehicle had only been driven less then 2000 miles. a check on the internet shows that the impla is prone to warped brake rotors. this is a serious saftey issue.

the vehicle service stability track light comes on without reason all the time. the car reduces speed and stall when i stop. the vehicle also loses speed and shut down. i just purchased the car and cannot afford to have it repaired.

SERVICE BRAKES

while on a medium downgrade on hwy 101 in marin county, ca at approx 65 mph i slowly applied brakes to reduce speed. the brakes immediately started to "chatter" and i thought the abs system was activating. i continued to just "tap" on the brakes to keep my speed reducing to the legal limit (55 mph) and the chattering stopped when speed was reduced and i was back on level grade. the condition has not repeated itself when driving on a level grade and with normal braking when slowing down from 65 mph. in august 2012 i took the car to a dealer for a minor warranty repair and asked them to also check the brakes for any problem with the abs system - still thinking that is what caused the initial problem. i was told that the brake rotors were warped and was caused "by the way i drive". i have been driving for over 60 yrs and have never had this type of brake problem. this car was purchased new in nov 2009 and it has been driven less than 10k miles per year - it is still under warranty until 11/2012. gm refuses to accept any responsibility for premature rotor warping or that their brake design maybe faulty, i.e. inadequate cooling for brakes, etc. they were of absolutely no help in addressing this problem seeking to put any blame solely on the driver. how can one respond to that kind of attitude. the nhtsa should make gm certify that their brake system, materials, brake cooling design, etc. could not possible cause any form of brake rotor warping in a vehicle driven less that 25k miles. thank you for looking into this matter.

i had purchased a 2010 chevrolet impala in july, 2010. the first attempt at repair of the front end vibration was on 10/22/2010. the dealership did not recognize the vibration. the vehicle tires were rotated on 01/26/11 in an attempt to stop the vibration in the front end. the vehicle was taken in on 03/18/11 for front end noise (thump) while turning the wheels. the vehicle was taken in on 07/07/11 for the thumping noise in the front end while turning the wheels. the vehicle was taken in on 07/28/11 for a front end thumping noise when turning the wheels. the vehicle was taken in on 08/16/11 for a front end thumping noise and the dealership notices the tires were wearing slightly cupped on the inside edge. the vehicle was taken in on 09/08/11 for a whining noise from the engine bay and power steering fluid was flushed. the vehicle was taken in on 04/09/12 for front end thumping noise, wheel bearing, transmission surge, and whine noise from radio. the vehicle was taken in on 06/27/12 for rough idle, tire replacement, transmission. the vehicle was taken in on 07/27/12 for rough idle, transmission surge, thump noise in front end and whine noise in radio. the vehicle was taken in on 10/05/12 for transmission surge, rough idle, thump noise in front end, and whine noise in radio. the outcome at this point is the dealership tried to reprogram the vehicle, gm approved replacement of all four tires, a replacement of the power steering pump, wheel bearing on driver front side. the dealerships have done two throttle body cleanings. the dealership has stated they will replace the rotors but gm would not approve replacement only turning on the rotors. this case has been opened with the better business bureau whom advised me to contact nhtsa. gm refuses to replace parts because their computer system cannot tell them what is wrong with the vehicle. gm has recalled the police vehicles for front end suspension and has a lawsuit pending in michigan for personal vehicle.

i had a blow out on a front passenger tire. went to raise car on flat level surface. i used the car jack for the first time since buying the car two years ago. the jack failed to stay under the frame rail ridge. its was half way up and the car bent the frame of the jack and the threaded rod. luckily no one was near the car it just roll forward and crushed the jack. i was unable to straighten and fix the jack. bad metal or frame was not qa correctly. i had a police officer use the same jack on his squad car different year impala and it worked fine. i need to find a way to report the jack failure and get a replacement jack from the chevorlet company. do not want to go to a dealer or service center. the act of this failing is a safety concern to many impala owners and i would like the jack mail to me or replaced as soon as possible.

i was driving to work, nearly at the end of a 50 mile trip, the car was functioning normally with no abnormal noises or indications of problems. i drove the car into the parking lot and was making a slight right turn, traveling at about 15 mph, when suddenly the car screeched to an immediate halt and stalled the engine. the sudden stop was violent and threw me against my seatbelt. i moved the gear selector lever from drive to park and restarted the engine without any trouble. the engine ran smooth and without any unusual noise. i put the car into drive, but it would not move and it made loud grinding and clunking sounds. i put the car in reverse, but still it would not move and again made loud noises. i put the car in neutral and a friend came over to help me push the car to a more safe area, but still the car would not move. apparently the drivetrain was locked up and would not move, no matter what gear position the transmission was in. the car was later dragged on to a flatbed truck and taken to my local auto service center, where they determined the transmission was bad. the vehicle was then towed to my local chevrolet dealer to be fixed under the gm 100,000mi/5 year powertrain warranty. i am very shaken up by this incident and fear what would have happen if the vehicles front wheels would have violently locked up like this at highway speeds. i fear the result would have been a total loss of control of the vehicle and possibly severe injury or even death to myself and others. i hope gm and the nhtsa investigate this incident and find the cause of the transmission failure with the goal of preventing this from happening again before someone gets hurt or killed.

POWER TRAIN

driving home friday night 12/26/12 on cruise set at 65, bang, car dropped power drastically, kicked off cruise, and the three rotating messages appeared on dash, 1)service stabilitrak, 2)service traction control, & 3)engine power reduced. both orange placards lit up on dash, service engine and traction. pulled out of traffic and re started the car. was able to drive at normal speeds but codes still rotating and placards still lit. couldn't get it into the shop until monday 12/31/12. when i started it up to take it in, codes were all cleared and car ran just fine. dealership told me it was the pedal sensor and would cost me $275 to repair. how can we get gm to do a recall on this on going issue? this is a 2010 chevy impala lt with 45000 on it. this repair should be covered under warranty and i was told it is not. there have been numerous individuals with this same sensor failing at about 45000 miles. a sudden drop in power to a speed of 25 while driving at highway speeds is very dangerous. it is amazing with as many failures as have been reported to gm on just the edmunds car form site alone that there have not been any serious crashes. please take a good look at this issue and see if you can't get gm to recall these sensors and get them replaced with better ones.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

driving home friday night 12/26/12 on cruise set at 65, bang, car dropped power drastically, kicked off cruise, and the three rotating messages appeared on dash, 1)service stabilitrak, 2)service traction control, & 3)engine power reduced. both orange placards lit up on dash, service engine and traction. pulled out of traffic and re started the car. was able to drive at normal speeds but codes still rotating and placards still lit. couldn't get it into the shop until monday 12/31/12. when i started it up to take it in, codes were all cleared and car ran just fine. dealership told me it was the pedal sensor and would cost me $275 to repair. how can we get gm to do a recall on this on going issue? this is a 2010 chevy impala lt with 45000 on it. this repair should be covered under warranty and i was told it is not. there have been numerous individuals with this same sensor failing at about 45000 miles. a sudden drop in power to a speed of 25 while driving at highway speeds is very dangerous. it is amazing with as many failures as have been reported to gm on just the edmunds car form site alone that there have not been any serious crashes. please take a good look at this issue and see if you can't get gm to recall these sensors and get them replaced with better ones.

while traveling away from home i parked my car and the key is stuck in the ignition. this is a safety hazard due to i had to leave the keys in the car. the next morning the car would not start due to the battery being drained because the key was not in the off position. therefore i had to be troubled with finding jumper cables while away from home or be towed to the nearest chevrolet dealer (whom i might add did not have a technician that could fix it on a saturday morning). i called another chevrolet dealer in another county close by and their service department is closed on saturday. so therefore i have had to either leave my vehicle running, loosen the battery cables or be close by to another vehicle that can give me a jump. (more inconvenience and safety hazards for a female) i notice while researching the problem online that this problem has occurred on the impala since the year 2000. it is now 2013 and the problem has not been recalled or improved over the years. i feel this not only is an inconvenience to me (your customer) but also is a safety feature that has failed to exceed my expectations of driving a chevrolet vehicle. i expect and hope that my inconvenience can have an impact on chevrolet to not only take care of my problem but correct the situation and recall the problem so other individuals will not experience this turmoil. research also reflected that the cost to me, the owner would be about $600 or more to fix the problem. right now i am still with the key stuck in the ignition. (more inconvenience of being a chevy customer) i suppose i will expect a check in the mail to cover the expenses this has caused to me (your customer). also a ford dealer has stated they can fix the problem. i see something wrong with that picture. bumper to bumper warranty has expired..... thank you for your attention to this inconvenience.

i was driving at approximately 30mph when i approached a curved and took my foot of the gas pedal and the car sped up to 40 when i hit the brake .i am the brake worked.now it happens more often .i believe this should be investigated before someone get hurt.

i own a 2010 impala with what seems to be a wiring problem which causes a huge safety concern. when i google the problem to try and find out what is wrong it seems other people have had this same issue with the impala. the problem causes the car to completely shut down while you are driving down the highway. if you are unable to make it to the side of the road before it shuts off, it just dies right there in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic. first the traction light will come on a couple of times and then your car will say something like shutting down, then it will just turn off. this is very scary. if other people have this problem, isn't it a matter that chevy should have to recall? i can't imagine this is something that happens to most cars, especially when it is only 3 years old. they seem to have a feature that shuts down the power if the car things it is losing control of the tires, but the problem is, the tires are fine but the sensor is messed up. i have read many posts complaining of this same issue. it can't be safe to have cars just shut down right in the middle of the highway. i was almost hit! my daughter was in the car. i was barley in the shoulder as it shut down right as i was pulling onto it.

purchased by chevy 2010 impala on january 25th of this year and just last night (march 18th around 715pm) on my way home from work just as i was speeding up after getting on the 405 in wa. my check engine light came on, the service stabilitytrac came on, check engine light and there was this other light what looked like to be a picture of the car swerving on ice also came on. my car slowed down, but never cut off. my get up on my car wasn't what it normally it. i was able to make it home from work, but i thought it was weird that my car started to do that. i purchased this car with only a little over 40k miles on it. i checked the owners manual and there is nothing in there about a "service stabilitytrac". i immediately send 2 emails to the gentleman that i work with at the local dealership that i got my car from. it was after hours when i sent the emails, so i have yet to get a response. this morning though, my check engine light was the only thing that came one this morning. i went ahead and drove into work which is about 25miles away from my home and the check engine light stayed on, but yet the other 2 didn't ever come on and there was no problem with accelerating. this is my first ever newer car and i love love love impala's, but i have been reading all the other posts and it concerns me because i'm not rich nor do i have the money or time to fix a problem that wasn't created by me. it's very disappointing to know that with all these postings that gm hasn't stepped in and fixed this problem nor come up with a proactive solution for their customers.

stabilitrac light on with reduced engine power - tested and found code b 2138 replaced shorted gas pedal assembly. on april 9, 2010 the same problem occurred. the dealership charged me $463 for the first repair and now they are saying i must pay another $500 for a sensor. this is a major safety issue and a faulty system that should be under warranty and/or under gmac recall.

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx?14@@.f215e7e/381 i have attached this link as a reference so that you can see that i am not the only one going through this. i have been experiencing the same problems as alot of these people as far as the car jerking and with the car reducing its speed (service stabilitrak warning). i have been to the dealer 3 times already, which i had to replace transmission lines and an accelerator sensor (which they replaced the whole accelerator). please note my complaint is no reflection to the service dept at that dealer for they were extremely courteous and as helpful as they could possibly be. i was very happy with the dealer, but i am not at all happy with the way gm is not handling this. as you read through the comments on that link, this is a very dangerous problem and it needs to be recalled asap. i travel on major expressways 4 days a week with my mom and don't want to end up in a bad accident because of this. i have photos of the dashboard messages if needed. as of today, they are not on but the car is jerking again. please consider action on this. -- thank you.

i have a 2010 chevrolet impala lt with 65,000 miles. i was almost in an accident. a deer ran onto the highway on may 12,2013. i was going 60 mph and then made a sudden stop. the next day my check engine light plus the traction control system light came on.... now, i only had this car not even 2months and making payments and i am having problems with it (already). any other car that i had have in the past i made sudden stops and check engine lights never comes on. whats going on with the chevrolet impalas? they look nice but they are sssoooo not worth the cost to purchase or to get repaired. this is the only bad investment i have ever made in my life. i should have stuck with my mazda. i will let it be known to anyone who ask me about chevrolet to dont even bothered. there are better cars than the chevrolet. this car is also a gas guzzler. i put $50 in the tank every 5 days when driving locally. i only work 10 minutes from my house. everytime you stop you loose gas mileage on your dic the gas is great on the highway though. like i said the worst investment i have ever made. chevrolet....im so upset and disappointed.

AIR BAGS

i have not been in any accidents but the service airbag lights started staying on. when i am operating the vehicle, sometimes the light will turn off and sometimes it does not. in addition, i have had instances where multiple lights will come on and the engine's power is reduced by 50% according to the indicator. i have taken the car to the dealership and had the lights "reset". but this latest problem with the airbags has me rattled. i really do not feel that i should have to pay $1500 or more to get new airbags when the car has not been in an accident and i cannot afford a new car.

my car suddenly lost power while driving, no warning. engine light came on that says "service stabilitrak". i was able to pull over safely and after a few moments i could drive again. i previously owned a 2009 impala and this same thing happened! it would have cost $1900 to fix which is why i just decided to upgrade and by another. this appears to be a common problem with this type of vehicle.

2010, chevrolet impala. on a routine trip to the bank, my steering wheel locked and my gear shift would not move into a drive position. the vehicle started fine, but would not go into gear. i took the console and gear shift lever apart and found a snapped wire in the wiring harness. after an exhaustive search, i found that the impala has been experiencing this issue at least since 2006. the issue is allegedly caused by the constant movement of the gear shift lever, causing one or more of the wires in the harness to break. an investigation of the costly repair and on-going issue from chevrolet is in order.

SERVICE BRAKES

during a road trip, stopped for lunch. upon continuing the drive to home, the brake pedal suddenly faded away and smoke began to come from under the hood - we found a parking lot and pulled in and shut the car off. after opening the hood, we discover the top of the motor was covered with brake fluid. we had the car towed to our home town - 100 miles away - at a cost of $650.00 - then delivered to the dealer on monday - today they have informed me that we have no warranty left and the brake line had rubbed on a part next to it causing the leak. further more - the required part for repair is on a minimum 2 week back order - indicating that this is not an uncommon problem. if this had happened just a few miles up the road, we would have been in the narrows of highway 101 in the curves with no where to pull off!! the brakes went off line with no warning - where is the recall on this vehicle????? less than 10,000 miles - only choice left will be to dump this car as soon as it is repaired - if!?!

SUSPENSION

i have not had an accident yet, but i continue to have an issue with the control arm. i have received numerous letters from my insurance company regarding this issue but none from gm. the only correspondence i have received is the recall regarding the seat belt. it is my understanding that a broken control arm can result in a collision/fatality. i am a mother of four and this is my only vehicle. i have called gm customer service twice and i am told that my car is not under this recall. i am not understanding why. i would like this issue to be repaired free of charge.

the rear defroster stopped working. after investigating the issue i discover the electrical harness connectors holding the wiring for the rear defroster(and all other wires) is burnt., the electrical connectors are harnesses for wiring leading form the engine area, to the rear of the vehicle for all electrical components, including the rear defroster. visibly you can see the area that is burnt for the rear defroster. the wiring for the rear defroster is not fused, and in my opinion is a fire hazard. while doing research on this issue i discover that other owners have had these issues, and is very prominent in impala's between 2006 and up. with out a fuse for the rear defroster there is no safety mechanism preventing a short, or burn out of the components, thus creating the potential for a fire inside the compartment of the vehicle, and the rear defrost not to work.

my wife and i were traveling north on pa route 15. we were on speed control at 55 mph. an error signal appeared on the dash board saying service trakcontrol a few seconds later a signal said--- losing engine power. i was able to get to a somewhat narrow shoulder in a few seconds before the engine died. i could not start the car. a called aaa and after 45 minutes was towed to a garage in dillsburg. just before the tow truck arrived i was able to start the car. the mechanic tried to determine the cause and could not. i decided to drive on to my destination in. nj the error signals appeared once more but i was able to pull into a service station and sit. i restarted car and drove to my destination. the next day i went to "rt 46 chevrolet"in nj three days later a new accelerator pedal was installed and i was able to drive to my home in ny state.. it was very scary to lose power on a hwy at 55 mph and i wonder about trusting the car!!!!!

driving about half mile from home, suddenly service engine light, service traction control and reduce engine power message turn on. car start to lose power. after driving another 2 miles, went to a parking lot. engine began rough. park the car and went shopping. about 1 hr. later the car start fine and running normal, except the check engine light still on . park car in garage. next day, start the car, check engine light, service traction control & reduce engine power message turn on. back in/out garage and turn engine on/off 3 times. engine is very rough. back to garage. next day. start the car, engine ran normal with check engine light turn on. drove the car around a circle and back to garage. runs fine. got into internet an found about a lot of complains(100s) on this car (2010 & earlier chevy impala) for the same problem, with report of dangerous incidence on the highway. i am afraid to use it again until it is fixed. i hope a recall should be made for the defect. this car is in garage, and is seldom use because i have 3 cars, and i am retired.

my wife was driving on a four lane in mn when the car just quit,as luck would have it there was a off ramp and we coasted up to the top. we didn't know what happened so we never reported it,and it started right back up. wasn't till today my wife saw where gm had a problem sounding like happened to us. so i went on line with gm the girl said take it to a dealer ,its out of warranty so i ll have to pay grrrrrrrrr i said its not my trouble why should i have to pay for something that is your fault. she didn't care,no big surprise ! i told her that i printed out what she aid so if something happens to my wife or me i have proof i told them of my trouble. thought you would just like to know so if anyone else should report the problem they are not alone.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

while driving northbound on i-75 in southern ky, the car suddenly lurched a little and "traction control" and "stabilization" errors displayed followed by "reducing power." and, the check engine light came on. i called my chevy dealer and asked if it was safe to continue driving - they said yes, as long as the check engine light wasn't flashing. we went about 5 - 10 more miles and the display flashed something about throttle problem and then "shutting down engine", which it did immediately with no warning while we were doing about 70 - 75mph in the middle of the 3 northbound lanes of i-75. i had to try to steer to the shoulder with no power steering or brakes. once there, i tried to restart the car and nothing happened - it displayed "starter disabled." we called our road service and they took our info, found the nearest chevy dealer who said they could work on it asap if we got it in there. while they were working on setting up a tow i tried starting it again. it started but the check engine was still on. i tried driving a little along the shoulder and it seemed ok so i said we'd try driving to the dealer rather than wait for a tow truck. we made it. they got on it fairly quickly and found the problem was the gas pedal position sensor. we were fortunate that the traffic was light and i could safely pull off. i hate to think what the results would have been if this had happened earlier as we were travelling thru atlanta with its 6 lanes of heavy traffic. suddenly losing power and control in that traffic would probably have caused one of those multi-vehicle accidents that make the national news. what kind of incompetent programming of the car's computer would trigger a full, instant shutdown because of a faulty accelerator pedal position sensor? i would suggest an immediate recall to re-flash the computer to eliminate the no-warning shut down.

while driving at 30 mph the trak stabilization light came on with a warning that engine power was reduced. i stopped the car and shut off for about 5 minutes. when i restarted the car, the warnings came back on again. i was able to make it to my destination safely. when i got back in the car approximately 6 hours later, the car started fine with the only warning being the check engine light. i drove home and called my local repair to look at it. the next day when i started it there were no warning lights at all and my local dealer check the sensors and could not find anything wrong. this happened again about 30 days later and has continued to happen 4 times since then. each time after 2-5 hours the car seems fine except for check engine light which goes out the next day.

i had to have an actuator replaced on my 2010 chevrolet impala. when i called other mechanic shop (including gm), was ininformed that this is a common issue with impalas. i also had several coworkers with impalas have the same issue. considering this issue is so common in these vehicles, there should be a recall.

driving to work and i got a display message that said some thing similar to "stabilitrack repair, engine power reduced" and then the car shut down. no power steering, nothing. i was finally able to stop, but i wasn't able to get off the road and it caused a potentially dangerous situation. i've read online this is a common issue with impala's and something that is a design flaw, as the shutting down of the car is not needed. had i been in traffic, a large car pile up would have resulted.

the traction control light comes on, then you get a message saying the engine power is reduced. then you get a message saying the car is shutting down. this has been happening every once in a while, but now it's a lot more frequent. this saturday i was driving about 60 on a three lane highway with no shoulder/break down lane. the car shut off while i was going up a hill. cars were flying up behind me and swerving to miss me. normally it takes about 5 minutes and you can restart the car. this time it was almost 10 minutes. i had a panic attack sitting there. once the car finally started i drove about 50 feet and it happened again. luckily there was a dunkin donuts there and i coasted into the parking lot. i sat there about 20 minutes so i could catch my breath, stop crying and composed myself. when i went to the dealer about 6 months ago they said it was my gas pedal, and it was going to cost $164. however when you research this on the web, you will see most people who have the gas pedal fixed it happens again. there should really be a recall on this because someone will get into an accident and perhaps get killed.

car was checked out for electrical noise coming from the dashboard from chevrolet dealer and said that the vehicle had a electrical problem within the dashboard area (part- air inlet recirculation valve, actuator) which is why we heard loud clicking noises, noises would at time continue even when the car was in off position. but three days later took the car to my trusted mechanic to have issue fixed (non-dealer) and mechanic noticed that the steering column was broken (part: rack-and-pinion), and said that it has been this way for awhile. mechanic showed me exactly what they saw and indeed the column was broken. mechanic said that he is surprised we have not had an accident due to this issue and that we could have been killed or killed someone else and that it needs to be fixed asap.

loss of power, service stabilitrac, service traction control started flashing...the car lost all power, shifted extremely hard and would only go about 5 to 10 miles per hour. i was on a main road with a lot of traffic when this happened, extremely dangerous situation. i took the vehicle to the gm dealer the first day, they could not find the code and the car ran fine on my way home from work. the next morning it did it again, took it back to the dealer and they had to replace the throttle body which costs almost $700. that was in february, i am now 400 miles from home and it is doing the exact same thing again....going to call a dealer today and hopefully it will be taken care of at no cost. i called gm about this issue and their response was that there is no recall on this vin# at this time, yet i know there are recalls out due to the throttle body.

excessive inside rear tire tread ware and hydraplaneing in rain at 65 miles an hour. had car alignment repaired by moving and redrilling holes for rear struts. also had to replace my second set of tires. this was all at my expense because gm would not acknowledge manufacturing defect. i had serious hydraplaneing just prior to this. in fact it was the hydraplaning that caused me to visit the dealer. now some 7 months later the same problem continues and i have worn out the inside tread of 2 new rear tires.

on 8/15/14 we came out to the vehicle and it would not start. no power at all and the key would not come out of it. left the vehicle sit overnight and same thing in the morning on 8/16/14. we called and got a jump from a tow truck and drove the vehicle home. while traveling home on the interstate (70 mph), my husband noticed that when he turned the driving lights on the vehicle shut off. (luckily he knew what to do and managed to not kill all of us in the vehicle and anyone around the vehicle; (2 adults and 2 children in vehicle;) he also noticed that when he signaled a lane switch the cruise control would turn itself off. we got the vehicle back to our house, waited 15 minutes and tried restarting and the battery was completely dead again. (no dome light, bells or anything when opening the door). since then, he has tried putting a different battery in it and we get the same results. when we got home we did a google search and found several others that this same thing has happened too. luckily no one has been killed from it but it is extremely scary when your vehicle turns off doing 70 mph. i would also like to inform you that there was no warning whatsoever that the battery was low or there were any electrical complications going on with the vehicle. there is no voltage meter anywhere on the vehicle. no warning lights came on either.

it doesn't matter if the car is running or not the accuators to the air conditioner and heating unit start clicking and making a loud noise. after a few minutes it will stop. i went and had it checked by the dealership and was told it would cost between 500 and 600 dollars to fix. in any event i have talked to several people who own impalas and they have had the same problem. my sister was one of those people. she had to take her car back twice before it was repaired correctly. apparently the computer chip in these cars are defective. the clicking noise happens even when the car is sitting in the garage and it is storming outside. i feel this is a manufacturing problem and general motors should take care of the problem without any out of pocket money from the consumer. after all the taxpayers did bail you out.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

1. 2011 was driving in waco, tx, as i made a left turn the electronic stability control indicator light came on, within sec the car stopped. coasted to side of the road, after 5 min was able to restart car. drove approx 2 mi, made 2 left turns,1 right turn. when i made the right turn, the car engine came to a stop. in 10 or 15 min was able to restart car and drove approx 2 mi to allen samuels chev dealer in waco. they kept the car a few days, they drove it numerous times trying to replicate the engine stoppage. they could not replicate the stoppage, but during trouble shooting, found a cable connector loose on the transmission and replaced that. they felt this was the problem. 2. sep 5, 2014. was on entrance ramp to interstate, was accelerating to enter traffic, the car engine began to stutter/stall, was able to turn into an exit ramp lane, the esc indicator light came on briefly, then the warning message came on that the engine was reducing power, within seconds the car engine stopped. was able to coast to a stop. i waited approx 5 min, was able to restart engine. the engine light came on, but i was able to drive home on secondary roads. (approx 25 mi). i was afraid to drive the car to waco, called a wrecker and had it towed to allen samuels chev in waco, tx. 3. request and recommend: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2010/chevrolet/impala/electrical+system this web site shows multiple safety problems with chevys of different years and shows that life and death injuries will occur when the car completely stops without adequate warning. 4. when the car is returned to me, i plan on keeping the esc off until issue is resolved. i feel strongly this is a defect in the car, had this incident on sep 5th happened a couple of min later after i had entered interstate traffic, there could have been serious injury to me and to others.

i was driving down the street and suddenly i heard a popping sound and i noticed the car wasn't accelerating normally so i made it to my destination and i started the car up went to put it in drive and it wouldn't accelerate is was though the car was in neutral so i put it in reverse and it went into reverse put it 3rd gear wouldn't accelerate the i tried 2cd gear and it drove kind of ruff so i then tried 1st gear and and i was able to make it home at 15 mph so i took the car to the chevy dealer i bought it from and to my surprise they say there were some defective parts in the transmission and they could rebuild the transmission for 2100 dollars and i would have to pay 850 to have it fixed because my car is out of warranty as 7/23/14 the car has the airbag service light and tire sensor light that appears on the dashboard .
