SUSPENSION

i had been noticing that there was a slight noise on the right front end of my 2007 avalanche. i checked the undercarriage and didn't notice anything wrong. i had an oil change done and it came w/ a free tire rotation. the sound seemed to be gone after that , i can't be sure. the truck had approx. 12,000 miles on it. i was going to drop off some papers with a customer on oct. 6th when i heard the noise again. i was looking for the customer's tractor that we were repairing in the field and was slightly bothered by the sun so i put one of my hands up to block the sun. when i looked back at the road, i was in the wrong lane. i tried to correct and the vehicle accelerated on it's own! i applied the brakes but didn"t get the same response as before. i ended up in a concrete ditch. by the way, the airbag didn't deploy and the onstar didn't get help there either. i talked to gm and they kind of just brushed it off. i still have physical and emotional issues because of it.

POWER TRAIN

in apr 2009 i took my 2007 chevy avalanche in for servicing. the "check engine" light was on and i had recall #0848 performed. this recall was to install a wire harness (heated washer fluid module shortcircuit). the catalytic converter and an 02 sensor was replaced. approximately aug/sept i had an odor in the vehicle (smelled like dirty feet or the interior carpet was wet for some time, without proper ventilation to dry. however, i thought that was odd as i was unable to locate any leaks inside the cab of the vehicle.) on or about oct 2nd, i was driving on the freeway and the "check engine" light came on and a message to turn off the engine which i did. after being towed to the dealership, i was told the engine had lost oil pressure and a sensor was replaced. immediately after the work was performed the smell went away but that same evening i was driving and the windshield wipers started going, fluid spraying, while in the off position. i had to turn the vehicle off to get it to stop. i immediately notified the dealer, since this has happened 2 or 3 times. the end of dec i took my vehicle in to the dealership for the intermittent wiper/fluid problem and i thought the transmission was slipping. they couldn't find an issue with the transmission and their diagnosis for the wiper unit was that the module was bad and needed to be replaced. they referred to bulletin #4298, dated 02/26/07, and part #1910885. it is my belief that all the failed sensors/parts are related to the recall and i am hoping the investigation to the recall is still open/on-going. fyi: within the first year of purchasing the vehicle my battery needed to be replaced after being inspected at the dealership. if i remember correctly there were several occasions i was unable to start the vehicle. there should be records on file at the dealership pertaining to this issue. lastly, i do have the part that was replaced as a result of the oil pressure sensor.

own a 2007 chevrolet avalanche 5.3l flex fuel v8 4x4. recently when starting it, it turned over longer than normal, and then started with rpm gauge still at 0 rpm's. then put in reverse, and it said stabilitrack is off and needs servicing soon. truck started moving backwards, and then seemed as if the brakes were applied, wheels simply would not move backwards. tried to movie it back and forth several times. thought brakes were applied or transfer case or axle or differential had issues. then started it again 3 minutes later and everything worked fine and back to normal, except check engine light was on. an hour later, started it again and this time everything was back to normal. called dealer and they stated they had seen this before, but it most likely won't be under warranty. odd seeing as how a large number of other people with tahoes/suburbans/avalanches, and other vehicles expressed the same issue online and on forums...

dash crack far left corner on 07 avalanche causes airbag unit to not sit properly in mounts. area on indicated part of dash flimsy not reinforced. damage caused by heat (speculating,) spilt 2" from 0" in 6hrs during drive from san diego ca to las vegas nv, no prior damage or signs of stress. due to passenger airbag not seated properly, afraid if airbag deployed may not deploy correctly. dealer considers crack cosmetic, says airbag is independent and should not be affected which i agree but that doesn't mean it will open if it can be "jarred" from its seating in the dash if it can dislodge. and in an accident with enough force to deploy airbag it could be thrust upward from its seating and thus changing the angles of which it is intended to cover during deployment. i see a potential flaw here due to oversight in engineering and feel it needs further review. i have included a video i found on youtube that shows a dash in a 07 tahoe (same dash as 07 avalanche) which is cracked the same way, it clearly shows how due to this crack the airbag unit is not secure in its seating and could potentially "jump out" as well the flimsiness in the dash area i am speculating towards lack of reinforcement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_drp8slwvgo&feature=related *please note that no crack or indication of stress was visible 2 days prior, dealer considers crack to be strictly cosmetic and not covered under warranty. i agree the crack in nature is cosmetic however being that it can disrupt a crucial life-saving component the manufacture should be required to repair so that all possible effected systems function correctly as required.

i'm hoping you can get these issues recalled. as i have researched around the web, i had come to find that these issues are very common among gm/chevy brand. people should not have to pay out of their own pockets to fix something that is unsafe and defective. here are the issues below: interior: plastic cover for "chrome" door handle is very sharp my wife has cut herself. exterior: door handles come loose and already has pinched a several fingers.

exterior door handle broke off in hand. first the rear door, and now all doors within a two year time frame. i'm not sure if this is related to the heat in florida as the other recall on the interior door handles has been performed due to separation of the chrome. exterior door handle breakage causes a risk from cuts and abrasions, and also the possibility of falling due to expecting the handle to stay in place and not break so easily. this also makes the vehicle a target for theft, as all that is required for a break in is a hard pull and a screw driver making easy access for a criminal.

STRUCTURE

the dash is cracked next to the airbag on passenger side. manufacturer refuses to fix or replace without the consumer taking responsibility and paying for replacement. this is a one owner vehicle, garage parked, dash-mat since first acquired truck. this seems to be a very widespread problem for gm vehicles of the same make and other similar vehicles. i have a huge safety concern that the airbag upon deployment will be ruptured and become ineffective due to the crack in the dash possibly puncturing the airbag. it is also very evident that this is a manufacturing flaw that gm will not stand up for and take responsibility.

POWER TRAIN

i am a soldier with 17yrs of active duty service and i was home over the weekend for the mlk weekend with my family. i leave monday morning about 0900am to return back to my home station and my truck was driving fine, i stopped at a red light to make a left turn and when the light turned green i accelerated to about 5-10mph then there was a clunking noise and my vehicle would not accelerate anymore it would just send the rpms up so i drifted off the road and put my vehicle in park because i just had my vehicle serviced. i checked all my fluids and they all were fine so i put my vehicle in reverse worked fine, selected drive and it wouldn't move, selected 3rd gear wouldn't move, selected 2nd gear truck would move, and selected 1st the truck would move. there i was with my wife and my 2 daughters and mother-n-law on the side of the road in nc, luckily we didn't get that far from my in-laws home and they called a local shop that towed my vehicle back to her home. i have always wanted an avalanche but i get on the computer and i start reading about other people who have had the same problem and that is shocking, and to happen under a 100k miles. this is not my 1st chevy vehicle i have owned as well, i have owned a chevy trailblazer ltz that the four wheeled drive went out on that i purchase for my wife, so i traded that in for the 07 trailblazer ss that my wife really loved and that vehicle ended having an electrical fire from the wiring harness and my vehicle sat down at the dealership for almost a month until i notified them that something has to happen in which they let me trade that vehicle in for a honda accord in which i haven't had any issues out of that my wife is currently driving. in my reading last night when i finally made it back home after borrowing a car from my nephew that just happens to be another honda accord and i see all these stories posted horrible.

so i was sitting at a red light, everything was cool.. and when i started to accelerate the truck almost felt like we got rear-ended. then when i tried to accelerate it felt like it had slipped into neutral. drive is completely dead, when i put it into drive, i get nothing. so i put it in 1st, and it worked, it went into gear. then when i started to accelerate it made this horrible scratching/grinding/whining sound. so i can accelerate slowly and switch to 2nd, slowly, and accelerate slowly and switch to 3rd. 3rd feels good when i accelerate but then if i step on it, it slips out of 3rd back to that neutral feeling. if i try to accelerate quickly in 1st and 2nd i get that horrible sound and grinding feel. it is so many people having this same problem over and over. some say the dealer charge them over $2800 plus to repair others say some dealers fixed the part in the trans called the forward sprag gear and everything was ok. its crazy that so many people with the same problem. 95 percent of the trucks despite the mileage ( 30, 000 to 93, 000) on her truck did this right after the warranty was up. my truck 07 with only 62, xxx on it trans has now done the same thing as everyone else truck. someone should force gm to recall these transmission and fix them. word is they used the same transmission that's in mid size cars and light duty trucks and if so everybody will have issues with a full size truck and a light duty transmission!

around the may 2012 timeframe i had to take my 2007 chevrolet avalanche in to a local dealership for service to the cracked dashboard near the passenger side air bag. the dealership agreed that this was a defective issue through out a number of other gm models. the dealership agreed to replace the dashboard at no charge. this week on 9 december 2013 i noticed another crack in the new dashboard. just slightly over a year this has happened again but this time in a new location. this crack is on the drivers side near the front of the windshield near the vin number plate to the base of the instrument cluster. this crack in the past two days is opening more and more everyday. on 10 december the crack has now formed a "v" shape and has split to towards the drivers door. i took the vehicle in today and the dealership, the same dealership that replaced the dashboard the first time, said no and that they could no longer help me and recommended to me that i just get a "cover" to not see it and bother me. i paid nearly $40,000 for the truck and keep very good care of it. i feel that these cracks are a safety concern that should be addressed and fixed. the dealerships around the country have acknowledged that this is an issue and they will no longer help. other owners like me are having this issue and we need help to get our vehicles fixed. please help all of us in getting this issue fixed as soon as possible.

the dashboard on my avalanche has developed a fairly significant crack right next to the passenger side airbag. the crack starts from towards the windshield side and leads up to and terminates at the crevice where the airbag is located. this in my opinion jeopardizes the integrity of the airbag. the concerns are that (a) the airbag may not deploy in the intended direction (b) may get ruptured due to making contact with the sharp edges of the crack or (c) may deploy unintentionally due to the weakness of the material holding it in place. this is a safety issue and gm needs to address it as such.

driving on a normal paved road i heard two fairly loud "pop" sounds. stopped and pulled over to see if i could find source of the sounds. nothing had fallen, no windows broken, but noticed 2 cracks on upper dashboard where the passenger airbag resides. pressed on that area and was able to see the dash had completely cracked apart and was "flopping". proceeded to drive and in next mile another "pop" sound occurred, this time it was an even larger crack on the left side of the dash near the instrument panel, and the entire top portion of the dash drivers side to passenger side was now bouncing up and down by about 1-2inches. i fear if the drivers a-pillar side airbag or the passenger main airbag are deployed, that fragments and large pieces of the hard dash plastic can be thrown at high-speed to people in the cabin...this is not acceptable as a safety concern. i attempted a resolution thru gm, who wanted almost $1000 to do the repair, even though the acknowledge its a common problem, they do not seem willing to come to a common resolution. more info can be found at the following links: http://tahoe-cracked-dash.webs.com/ http://chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,121036.0.htm http://chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-25/2007-tahoe-ltz-dash-has-cracked-26133/ http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/08/gmt-900-gmc-chevy-vehicles-subject-to-frequently-cracking-dashboards/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ikscklf7g8.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

the vehicle is equipped with the ability to handle flex fuel after you run the flex fuel then switch back to unleaded the fuel pump is damaged, i've spoken to other owners that own an avalanche same model year and they are experiencing the same issue but gm ignores this. can you offer any feed back for this ? if so thanks.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

the alarm sound for warning of seat belt unbuckled, door open, keys in ignition, etc, is generally inaudible. occasionally it does work, but usually it does not. in 2010, the dealer said this was an issue with the radio. my warranty had expired so repair was no longer covered. i did not have the problem repaired due to the high cost. i thought that this was an isolated incident until i just read that there is a recall for this exact problem in later models. - when functional, the alarm sound emanates only from the speaker on the left side. i swapped the left and right speakers and the problem remained, suggesting that it is not a speaker issue. when the audible alarms are dead, so is the left side sound when the radio is on.
