check engine light appeared on my 2008 cadillac cts. vehicle brought to dealership. issue appears to be a cylinder head and cam failure. still not repaired. vehicle still in shop since 2/26,vehicle has 2600 miles on it. 4months old.

@ 6,000 miles on my 2008 cadilliac the veh.'s engine light came on. we took it directly to the service center & they stated that the cylinder head and cam shaft will need to be replaced. i was told that this is a common problem with the new cts's. i have not heard or read anything about this. can you advise if there is a recall? thanks...

tl*the contact owns a 2008 cadillac cts. while driving 2 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated. the contact struck the preceding vehicle. the front bumper needs to be replaced. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the powertrain was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 1,500.

my 2008 cadillac cts v6 di awd has a dangerous acceleration lag when you step on the gas to pass or get out of the way of a hazard in road. there is about a 1-2 sec lag between stepping on pedal and rpms moving, and about another second or so before any pick up happens. doesn't sound like much, but no other car i have had, did this. at the speed of oncoming vehicles, a 1-2 second lag can mean a 30 - 60 yards of distance being traveled by an oncoming car or truck. that sight fills up rear view mirror fast. in my opinion, this is a serious design flaw and potentially death causing defect. this happens anytime i need quick acceleration, and is also happening in other cars i tried at dealership to see if it was just mine.

driving up a hill in pa. we were on state highway 118 near sweet valley pa. car bucked and jerked violently. car stopped running in middle of roadway with traffic backed up behind me. eventually cars worked their way by me and i was able to drift car back to a place where i could get it off the road and out of the way. very harrowing experience. very unsafe. car was towed in as it would not restart. tow truck driver also tried to restart to move car to optimum place to put car on flatbed. car would not restart. after diagnosis the dealership said that: car only had 3 gallons of gas in tank and this was not enough to get up hill. gas gauge showed between 1/8 to 1/4 of tank. no low fuel light. the dealership said that it might not happen again, but that it could. after returning to my home in fl i took it to the selling dealer. they called cadillac and cadillac agreed with both dealerships that there was nothing wrong but that due to the design of the gas tank, the car could stall going up a hill at any time unless a significant amount of gas was in the tank. they would not define significant. they said that gas had sloshed to the rear of the gas tank and the gas pickup was sucking air. they say that after car was towed 30 miles on a flatbed gas sloshed to the front of tank and engine could be started. they said that nothing could be done. this is a very, very unsafe condition. the guy behind us almost hit us as we decelerated rapidly. and then a whole line of cars almost collided. cadillac says that nothing can be done. i say that something must be done to protect drivers of all 2008 cadillac cts.

while driving my 2008 cts, with no advance notice, the engine just died. it seemed to run out of gas. my fuel gauge read between 1/2 to 3/4 full. this happened 3 different occasions. all 3 times i had to have it towed back to the dealership that i purchased the car from. all 3 times i got different reasons it happened, from bad fuel pump in gas tank, to some type of bad connection, etc. after this happened the 3rd time, i demanded a new car, which i received. i have had no problems with this cts, runs great.

STRUCTURE

the brake pedal is too close to the gas pedal. the driver can hit them both at the same time. the defect caused one accident and i have had the same experience without an accident on several other occasions. gm has refused to do anything and has refused to put its refusal in writing.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

twice ,while driving my wife's 2008 cadillac cts, my foot has wedged both on the accelerator and the brake pedal causing me to proceed forward while attempting to brake. the first @, 6 mos ago ,caused me to proceed into an intersection narrowly being missed by a vehicle coming from my left. the 2nd occurred @ 1 week ago causing me to just miss hitting a car parked in front . my wife had a similar incident @ 6 mos ago while backing out of a driveway. i have reported both incidents to cadillac with no further communication from them. they gave me this site when i requested an agency to report this problem so i might help others avoid being injured. i will not drive my wife's car in the future due to the above incidents and the fear of a more onerous outcome when it happens again.

SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:HEAD RESTRAINT

the articulated headrests designed to reduce neck injuries in a crash, move up of their own accord during normal driving. this results in a safety concern. if the headrest moves up during normal operation, will it still function as designed should an accident occur. i have contacted cadillac division twice without a response. the selling dealer service department does not know what is causing the problem, but other cases have been reported.

brakes screech when coming to a stop. they have done this since shortly after delivery of car which is almost one year ago. first time the dealer was notified about this the service writer informed me this was "normal" and nothing could be done. another service writer validated the complaint and replaced rear brake pads. seemed to be better for a very short time, but it started again and continues. have continued to inform dealer of this every time the car is serviced without resolution.

a few weeks after purchasing the 2008 cadillac cts the brakes began squeaking every time they were applied. service department said to ride the brakes when on the highway to clean off the metal filings on the brake rotors due to brake dust. did not fix problem. brakes have continued to squeak for months despite riding brakes on open highways.

brake squeal on my 2008 cts almost from the time it left the dealer showroom on september 15, 2008. dealer states that cadillac is aware of the problem but that cadillac has yet to authorize a fix for the problem. dealer indicates that ceramic brakes would correct the situation but once again cadillac does not have replacement ceramic brakes for the car. they have them for other models but not the cts according to the dealer.

i own a 2008 cadillac cts with awd. i bought it in december 2007. at around 7000 miles in mid-february 2009 my car would not start. the antitheft device was activated. a roadside assistance technician came out. he said it was a defective battery which he replaced. three weeks later i tried to start the car & received a dashboard alert that the battery registered low voltage and could not be started. the car was towed to the dealer who worked on it for two days. they told me that "maybe" the computer was being turned on when the car was shut off. their "maybe" answer made me feel they were just guessing. they told me they had corrected the glitch, charged the battery, told me the battery was fine & that the car should be fine now. last night, april 15, 2009 at 10:00pm my dashboard alerted me that the battery was too low to start. i called roadside assistance who could not get it started either. on april 16, 2009 at 8:30am i had to have the car towed into the dealership again. the service technician again said my battery must have a defective cell. this is the same battery that they put into the car 6 weeks earlier that they said was "fine". i am now awaiting their "professional" diagnosis. do you have any other complaints of this type on this vehicle? also do you know if this car can qualify as a lemon under federal & nj lemon laws?

i have a cadillac 2008 cts with 24,000 miles on it. the check engine light came on and i took it to my local cadillac dealer. they stated they could not fix the problem and i had to take it to the selling dealer, don massey cadillac. problem: the check engine light came on and i immediately took the car in. my local dealer, allen cadillac in monroe michigan stated there were two problems. the timing chain was stretched according to then and the cam and crank shaft were defective. the car is currently in service. i was told by the service tech that this is a common problem with the 2008 cadillac cts and that dealer had seen over a dozen cars with the same problem. gm has not issued a recall. when i took the car to don massey cadillac (selling dealer), there were six other cts cars in for service at the same time as mine. although gm is supposed to fix this under warranty, why have they not issues a recall? this is an over $50,000 car with 24,000 miles on it and it will have to have the engine rebuilt. this is the second major repair to this car. this past december, a clip that holds the wiring harness in place snalled and the wiring harness got wound up around the fan and was torn to shreds and had to be replaced. with this many major problem on a car with 24,000 miles (i put on all 24,000 of those miles), what is in store for be when the car has 34,000, 44,000 and beyond miles on it?

purchased 2008 cts upon driving car home i noticed a vibration. took back to dealer next day. had to wait 3 weeks to get service on vehicle and found out at that time there is a service bulletin on this car and the dealer is not to try to fix car. went to gm and they agreed to change tires but this did not fix the problem, the vibration continued. trying to come to some sort of agreement with gm and after 9 months, nothing. took car back to dealer for tire rotation and requested "road force balance" and the problem got worse. the vibration starts at 40mph and the steering wheel is shaking. the problem is either with the wheels or the tires.

engine service light came on - dealer diagnosed problem was caused by a stretched / loose timing chain. dealer reported 1,000s of 2008 cadillac ctss with the 3.6l dy engine experienced the same problem. nhtsa should invest problem since how the timing chain fails could cause a serious accident.

EQUIPMENT

car sometimes doesn't recognize electronic keyfob preventing me from locking the ignition prior to exiting the car. leaving the car with the ignition unlock is a violation of many states' motor vehicle laws. other times car will not let me enter the car or start the car because it doesn't recognize the electronic keyfob. problem recurs periodically - sometimes a few times a week other time operates fine for a month or more.

drove on a street with a 2" snow cover. after about 25 feet received a number of alerts on my driver information center stating: 4 wheel drive was off, anti-lock braking system warning, service stability traction system, service brake assist. immediately called cadillac service who stated snow could have dislodged some wires, bring it in for service. since many all states get some snowfall cadillac needs to redesign the wiring so a small about of snow doesn't disconnect critical vehicle functions.

i was driving my sister-in-law's 2008 cadillac cts home from work one night in december. i came up to the street out of the mall parking lot and put my foot on the brake to slow down. suddenly, the engine took off and revved up to around 4000rpms, so much i could hardly hold it with the brakes. i put in park and reached down to feel the floor mat to see if it was on the accelerator. it was not. i turned off the car. the next day, i took it to the gm dealer. i don't think they believed me because they could not repeat the condition. they had me leave the car and they said they would look at it. the next day i picked ut up. they said that they had re-programmed the throttle body control unit. i left with the car and proceeded to exit the lot. just as i got to the street, it took off again, revving to about 4000 rpms or so. i immediately went back and told the dealer what happened. they stared at each other and shrugged their shoulders. they never fixed the problem. i am convinced that this is a software issue in the throttle control system, just like toyota is dealing with. if my wife had been driving this car, she could have been seriously injured. this is a very serious problem and needs attention immediately,. it is not just toyota.

the front drivers seat frame on my 2008 cadillac cts is broken. this could of caused a serious problem if it dislodged. i am having it fixed today @ cadillac at a cost of over $800. i have asked that the dealer to put the seat frame in my trunk if needed i can send it somewhere. even though there is 60,000 miles on the cars, this is not a part that should break.

tl*the contact owns a 2008 cadillac cts. while driving at 30 mph, the contact attempted to brake and noticed that the floor mat was stuck between the brake pedal and accelerator pedal, causing the contact to crash into nearby vehicle. there were no injuries but a police report was filed. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. the failure mileage was approximately 31,000. the current mileage was approximately 34,000. updated 8/18/10 *cn the consumer stated the driver's side floor mat became unsecured from it snap and lodged under the brake pedal and over the accelerator pedal. updated 08/23/10*jb

i was driving my cts cadillac when with no warning i heard a loud noise, i pulled over to see what it was i saw that my rear window had shattered nothing had hit my window i drove straight to the cadillac dealer and they informed me they can not repair it with out having me pay for the cost. i went online and searched and found that this type of incident had happened before on gm models and was listed on the tsb and it should be replaced. i am so upset that i can¿t get a straight answer.

VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES

drivers rear view mirror will not return to original position when switching back to park or drive. mirror creeps upwards and has to be manually adjusted to proper position. dealer has worked on this problem no less than 5 times and says they cannot do anything else.

while in the process of making a slow speed <10 mph right hand turn the steering wheel locked up. the vehicle engine did not stall nor lose electrical power and no icons appeared on dash display to indicate a problem. the steering wheel unlocked when brakes were slammed on to prevent crashing into building.after this car was operable and able to be driven to parking area without incident.when key was removed from ignition it was bent,apparently from steering wheel trying to go to locked position.vehicle was driven to dealer a distance of approximately ten miles without repeat of problem.dealer kept vehicle approximately one week trying to replicate problem driving it approximately 100 miles without incident.dealer replaced ignition switch but admitted that they could not say the switch was cause of the problem.refused to accept vehicle feeling if problem reoccurred again at higher speed danger possibly existed to any occupants of this or any vehicles near it. dealer then agreed to buy back vehicle.dealer was very accommodating but agreed that manufacturer did not appear supportive or concerned.

on the morning of december 27, 2011 the stability trac system light came on indicating that it had failed. the car did not react properly and the steering wheel was uncontrollable leading to an accident. the car did a 360 and hit a guard rail. the stabilitrac was repaired just a month prior at a cadillac dealership, but still operated incorrectly. this incident put my life at danger and has caused me to believe that the stabilitrac system was not fixed properly at all. a certified mechanic has taken a look at the car and confirmed that the stabilitrac system was dysfunctional. at this point, i don't feel comfortable driving the car, even after it's repaired. my business consists of me driving frequently and i fear that if i continue to drive the vehicle there is a possibility that the results could be worse if the system fails again.

after backing the vehicle in to a parking spot i wanted to straighten it out. when i put the car in drive there was a loud shrilling noise (sounded somewhat like brakes peeling) and the car accelerated forward with my foot on the brake. i pumped the brakes in an attempt to stop the vehicle but every time i pushed the brake the car would buck forward. in a matter of seconds the vehicle crashed in to a wall. this whole incident was less than 10 seconds. i would like to note this was a loaner vehicle. i would also like to note that the floor mats for this vehicle were in the trunk of the car and cardboard with plastic wrap over it was being used in their place. i don't know if that had anything to do with this but wanted to make you aware. the vehicle instantly began leaking fluid and had to be towed to the dealership. the tow truck driver made a comment that there was something wrong with the vehicle. updated 02/07/12 *bf

although i loved the car overall at the time i decided to own, , my dream car cadillac cts has turned into my dream nightmare. cadillac cts 3.6 2008 when i get on it a little bit acceleration it makes a sound that sounds like all air leaks inside the car. the dealer was reported ever since my first early visit to service center but it's only during my last visit to the dealer they mentioned gm has sanctioned approval ie. at the time the odometer reads 65000km? strange! the door locks are terrible?despite rectifying; time and again by your dealer the problem still persist to date. safety hazard indeed. the computer had error as for tyre low air pressure very bad on safety standards. on 12th aug 2012 while i was en-route to the cadillac service center the vehicle had a break down. on the display screen near odometer it displayed engine temperature too high ?. due to this i had to pull the car towards safety and got stranded in the middle of the road under the hot sun. how can you justify a car which is regularly maintained by your authorized agency at regular periodic intervals to have such a fate? i felt it was good to have it serviced during my absence in town before the regular km interval; but, only to get stranded on the road in the hot sun. it is indeed, too much to suffer after buying a car of gm flagship brand < cadillac > and suffer agony on the road side. not to mention the dealerships warranty you provide with the purchase of the new car from your authorized agents, probably don't fix anything with the warranty service program. if the job was right then the engine should not have over heated especially when the car is just run 71000 kms. approx...

i found a bolt laying in my driveway under the car. when i got in to drive it made a terrible noise as though something was loose. i took it to dealer and they said a bolt fell out of the driveshaft and the driveshaft needs replaced at a cost of approx. $900. i called gm to find out why a bolt would just fall out and why the driveshaft would need replaced with less than 38k miles and they could not answer me. they did agree to work with dealer and get my cost down to $400, however, i don't think i should have to pay anything since this sounds like a design flaw. i have never owned a car where bolts just fall off for no reason and i've had 10 year old cars with more than 100,000 miles on them. gm did not seem too interested in discussing the problem and said i should talk to the dealer. the dealer, of course had no answers since they did not manufacture the vehicle.

for quite some time now i've been experiencing problems with locking/unlocking rear doors. rear doors will not lock/unlock with keyless entry or front/passenger door pads. i have to manually cling to back to unlock doors. have purchased several batteries for keyless remote. due to doors remaining unlocked i cannot auto start vehicle unless i manually lock doors myself. also computer is not recognizing keyless remote. i have purchased several batteries within the past 8 months. car always tell me keyless remote not detected. to crank car i have to put keyless remote in middle of console to ignite. both issues are very annoying and unsafe.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

for quite some time now i've been experiencing problems with locking/unlocking rear doors. rear doors will not lock/unlock with keyless entry or front/passenger door pads. i have to manually cling to back to unlock doors. have purchased several batteries for keyless remote. due to doors remaining unlocked i cannot auto start vehicle unless i manually lock doors myself. also computer is not recognizing keyless remote. i have purchased several batteries within the past 8 months. car always tell me keyless remote not detected. to crank car i have to put keyless remote in middle of console to ignite. both issues are very annoying and unsafe.

first incident: when driving, engine would loose power, engine light on, fuel pump replaced second incident: two weeks later, driving car and engine shuts down, no power, no brakes, no power steering, gas milage to empty was at 68 miles. replaced fuel gauges third incident: one week after replaced fuel gauge, engine shut down while driving, no brakes, no power steering, and gas mileage read out was 69 miles. fortunately, we were at a standstill in the middle of the road and the car restarted, went to gas station, filled the car with gas, it took 14.7 gallons, the cts gas capacity is 18 gallons. dealer doesn't know what the problem is. just waiting for a solution. this is a major safety concern that needs immediate attention.

shortly after the purchase of the vehicle it started shutting off while in motion. this happens unexpectedly, and mostly when slowing down for a stop light or to reduce speed. this is an on going issue, which have been reported to general motors, who informed us to take it a number of dealerships on several occasions, but all services performed has proven futile. my family has had many close death experiences because of this problem, but general motors refuses to address the matter in depth. i have contacted several law firms for assistance, but all refuse to help because no one has been injured or died as a result problem. as a disabled veteran i'm very worried about this issue because i can't afford to replace this vehicle at this time due to my injuries.

cadillac cts was rented, oct 1, 2009, at 9:00 pm, at charlotte airport. my husband was driving the cts home on josh birmingham parkway. i was behind him in our car. we were both on the right-hand side of the road, near the old dowd road overpass. my husband signaled me that he was moving to the shoulder to stop. i was right behind him, on the shoulder. he slowed to less than 5mph. i saw his brake lights. but, his car didn't stop. it continued to roll forward at a weirdly slow speed. brakes? then slowly, at a very slight angle, the right tire rolled off the shoulder. the rear tires followed. steering? off-road, it crosses the ditch to the right. his left front tire hits an aluminum barricade. the end is buried into the ground. the cts turned violently to the left. wheels straddled the railing, "riding" it. it lurched as the undercarriage hit each post. sparks showered down. once all the tires were off the ground, the cts came to a stop. the wheels were still turning, as i walked up to his door. my husband was slumped over and unresponsive. his seatbelt was on. airbags? they had not deployed. i called 911. 10 minutes later fire, emt and police arrived. i was in shock, so the police report had major errors. it claims the car "rolled-over." no! claims the car left the road at 45mph and hit the barricade. no! that his death was caused by an unrelated medical condition. no! the coroner's official report clearly states the cause of death was due to "blunt force trauma from the accident".) the police officer who wrote the official report went on vacation for weeks. report was never corrected by me. gm analyzed sdm data (dec 2009). their date for the accident was wrong, nov 1, 2009. they claim the sdm exonerates the cadillac cts. they blamed the accident on operator error. i know my husband was an exceptionally safe driver, expert mechanic and avid car enthusiast for 50 years.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

strong smell of gasoline was coming from rear of vehicle. upon inspection, a crack and leak in the plastic supply line of the fuel pump module was found. this caused fuel to spill and settle on top of the fuel tank which results in a dangerous condition and possible fire hazard. this is similar to a previous recall (12v459000) on 2007, 2008, 2009 gm vehicles that did not include cadillac.

tl* the contact owns a 2008 cadillac cts. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently. the dealer recommended that the contact remove all the items from the key ring except for the ignition key and fob. the contact heeded the dealer's advice, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v394000 (electrical system: ignition). the contact also notified the dealer several times pertaining to the driver seat fracturing and collapsing. the seat was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that a bolt needed to be replaced and the lower seat track needed to be aligned. the driver seat made a loud noise. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

car was towed to dealer. repairs findings included a melted fuel pump harness and fuel pump inoperative as a result. i feel under certain circumstances the results could have been catastrophic resulting in damage, injury, or possible death.
