FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

2010 bmw 135i recently had my car in for brake service (5/7/10) at bmw. the following day i noticed a long crank x1 at start up. i headed to work and noticed decreased power but didn't think much of it. on my way home i was accelerating onto the freeway when my car lost all power (engine still on, but felt like it was stalling out) and the traffic behind me nearly crashed into me due to how sudden and without warning of the deceleration. i was luckily able to pull off to the shoulder immediately avoiding a multicar accident. my check engine light flashed on and my car was in limp mode. unsteady idle, very poor acceleration and couldn't go above 20mph. i was able to scan my car for codes: 29dc: 29dc cylinder injection switch-off explanation: fuel related code fix: normally requires fuel pump replacement 2fbf: 2fbf fuel pressure at injection release explanation: fuel pump pressure code fix: normally requires fuel pump replacement this is a widespread know problem with the n54 engine and is very dangerous. i fear they did a software upgrade on my car without my consent 5/7/10. my car is schedule to go into service at bmw monday 5/10/10.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

bmw high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failed while i was driving on a busy four lane city road. the hpfp is covered by bmw's warranty and was replaced. however, there appears to be a lot of bmw owners of the 135i and 335i that have had similar experiences but much more risk involved, e.g. failure while accelerating onto a freeway. this is the first failure my my2010 car has had; others have reported 3 failures.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

i purchased a brand new 2010 bmw 135i on september 30, 2009. driving home from work i attempted to pass a car on a multi-lane road when the car started bucking and starving for fuel/power. i slowed down and the problem appeared to subside, however upon further acceleration the car again started bucking and starving for power. on the 3rd attempt to accelerate, the car went into "limp mode" which allows the car to be driven under severely reduced power. the warning said to stop driving the car and call the dealership. i called bmw assist and they took the car to the dealer and replaced the high pressure fuel pump and low pressure fuel sensor and also conducted a full computer reprogram. since then, the car has idled very rough. this is completely unacceptable for a brand new vehicle.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

on august 5th 2010, when starting my car i received several long cranks. once started it drove fine. on august 7th, (at about 1:00am) when starting the car, it cranked for about 7 seconds and finally started. it drove fine. i stopped at a store, and when leaving, it started up fine, but as i pulled out into the road, the engine light came on and the car had reduced power. the car (with only 5500 miles or so) was shaking violently when going under 10 miles an hour. the rpm's fluctuated at idle to where the car almost stalled several times. i drove the 15 or so miles home with my flashers on as the car was having trouble. the above is a description of hpfp failure on the n54 engine. i would say many, many people get a bad fuel pump. bmw has covered the part for 10 years/120k miles, but it will fail again. there is no fix at this point. just a new pump that eventually gives way. i know people who are on their 4th pump. just do a google search on "bmw hpfp" and see what comes up. the 135i, 335i, 535i an z4 35i all have the n54 engine, and they all suffer from this defect. loss of power really concerns me, what if i was doing 65mph on a highway when the pump decided to fail? i brought the car into the dealership, and explained the long cranks and loss of power etc.. and they explained bmw has to approve all fuel pump swaps. got a call 2 days later to say they will replace the pump today, august 10th. in addition to the new pump, i will be getting a software update as well.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

2010 bmw 135i purchased late april...3000 miles when problem started...the car took longer than normal to start...while in traffic in downtown atlanta...experienced lose of power or stall...spitting and sputtering to a stop on the side of the road...called local dealer and they towed the car to the dealership and replaced the hpfp and re-flashed the computer...since then i have turbo-lag and strange noises coming from under the hood...the fuel pump replacement is fine, but the lower performance of the new program is unacceptable...i paid a lot of money for the performance and to dumb down the computer to keep from replacing other components is wrong...fix the problem for real and there would be no issue.
