Mercedes-Benz - Inadvertent Deployment Of Driver Airbag

Daimler will be askig a large number of Mercedes-Benz owners to return to their dealerships for a problem that could affect the steering components in their vehicle. The combination of an electrostatic discharge to a broken steering column module clock spring and an insufficient grouning of the steering column, might lead to an inadvertent deployment of the direr airbag. Drivers will be alerted to a potential defect through an airgag warning message in the instrument panel. The vehicles affected by this defect include:

Dealers will correct the problem by adding sufficient grounding to the steering components. The recall is expected to begin in December.
