Nissan will be contacting the owners of certain 2017-2018 Infiniti QX30 crossover vehicles regarding a problem that could increase the risk of a crash. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, a combination of an electrostatic discharge to a broken steering column module clock spring and insufficient steering column grounding, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver air bag. Drivers will be alerted of a problem through a red warning lamp on the instrument cluster.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have extra grounding added to the steering column components. This recall is expected to begin December 18, 2017.
