Hyundai Engine And Suspension Defects

Hyundai have announced that they will be recalling certain 2017 Santa Fe and 2018 Santa Fe Sport vehicles for two separate manufacturing problems.

Certain 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles may have engines that contain a crankshaft that was produced with surface irregularities in the crankshaft pin. This could result in premature engine bearing wear which may damage the engine if it continues to be driven. Drivers will be alerted of a problem through abnormal engine noises, reduced power and hesitation, illumination of the "Check Engine" warning lamp and/or illumination of the engine oil pressure warning lamp. Owners receiving notices will be instructed to return to their dealerships to have their engines inspected and replaced as necessary.

Some 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport vehicles may contain front coil springs which may have been damaged during manufacturing and could fracture under certain driving loads. In limited instances, a fractured coil spring could contact and puncture a tire while driving. Drives may experience a change in vehicle ride height and abnormal noises from the coil spring rubbing the inboard sidewall of the tire. Dealers will correct the problem by replacing both front coil springs.
