2018 Ford F-150 Power Train & Engine Problems

Ford will be contacting the owners of certain 2018 Ford F-150 trucks regarding two separate defects that could affect the safety of their vehicle. Because the vehicles are 2018 models, most of the affected will still be under dealer control.

The first recall affects a small number of F-150 trucks equipped with 3.5L engines. Certain trucks may have been manufactured with inadequate supply lubrication holes to the camshaft bearing journals. Lack of proper lubrication will result in premature engine failure and a loss of engine power with little warning. Drivers may notice unusual engine noises, a check engine light and a rough running just prior to engine failure. Owners receiving notices will be asked to make arrangements to transport their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the engine replaced.

The second recall affects a larger number of F-150 trucks equipped with 3.3L engines and 6-speed transmissions with a column mounted shift lever. According to the defect report, rapid movement of the transmission shifter from Park to Drive could cause a loss of gear indication. This could result in unintended vehicle movement or a momentary Neutral operation instead of Reverse. Dealers will correct the problem by reprograming the powertrain control module.
