BMW will be contacting vehicle owners regarding two separate recalls affecting almost 1.5 million vehicles.

Recall 1: Due to several contributing factors, a degradation within the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve heater could result in an electrical short. The problem can cause parts to overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire. BMW warns that the defect can affect vehicles even if they are not in use. Dealers will replace the PCV valve heater, free of charge.

The vehicles affected by this defect include:

  • 2008-2011 128i
  • 2007-2011 328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive, 525i, 525xi, 528i, 528xi, 530i, 530xi, X3 3.0si, X3 xDrive30i, X5 xDrive30i, Z4 3.0i, Z4 3.0si and Z4 sDrive30i

Recall 2: Over time, the blower regulator wiring harness could experience friction corrosion. A combination of high current flow and variations in the electrical resistance could cause the connection to overheat. If this condition occurs, there is a risk that plastic surrounding the blower regulator could overheat and ignite. Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the wiring and electrical connectors.

The vehicles affected by this defect include:

  • 2006-2011 323i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi and M3
  • 2007-2011 328i xDrive, 335i xDrive and 335is
  • 2009-2011 335d
