let me start by saying that i do not own this vehicle buy was following one last evening. it was dark, i was traveling east on rt 55 near front royal, va. a new (04 / 05) jeep cherokee style vehicle was stopped making a left turn across traffic. the brake lights were plainly visable but i commented to myself that the driver should use turn signals when making this manuver, especially on the well traveled road. as i got closer to the stopped vehicle, to my surprise, the turn signals were on and working....problem is ...from 100 feet behind, the intensity of the brake lights over shadowed the operation of the turn sigal as they are both red and operate on seperate light fixtures. *ak

from the first day took deliver of 2005 jeep grand cherokee ltd. 5.7 lt hemi engine, first in when pressing accelerator in low rpm, then when reached 80 mph. on flat freeway (with 400 miles on the odometer), ecessive groan and noise from the engine. same noise was not present on identically equiped test-drive vehicle. apparent high frequency vibartion, especially in low cruising sppeds on perfectly flat pavement. vibration strength increasing in higher rpm. hesitant engine in low rpm and while accelerating. apparent underpowered operation, compared to test-driven vehicle. two jeep dealer service technicians test drove the vehicle for 50 miles. problem confirmed by service. first attempt, failed to fix malfunction. adivsed to bring back for a longer stay. second attempt - after 50 miles of operation - (vehicle stayed in dealerhip service for 4 business days) unsuccessful attempt to fix aqain. vehicle assessed as safe to drive until daimler chrysler advises on another solution. currently vehicle with approx. 600 miles. *ak

2005 jeep grand cherokee potentially dangerous, no escape through windows in cold weather. a ll 4 electric windows will not open in cold weather if minimal amount of water has seeped passed outside window seal. this posses an extremely dangerous situation if evacuation from the vehicle is necessary and the doors are not accessible. this happens to me every day and i just purchased the vehicle one month ago, and living in the northeast where the outside temps are below freezing every day. *ak

bought a 2005 jeep grand cherokee in late october. have had numerous instances on engine shutting down while driving, including on a busy expressway. neither chrysler nor the dealer was able to correct the problem (the dealer's service department was in contact with chrysler techical support when trying to repair). they tried a couple of repairs suggested by chrysler that did not resolve the problem. finally realized i was gently bumping the ignitiion key or attached keys when going from the accelerator to the brake and the switch was moving to "accessory" from "on" and killing the engine. the two positions are very close together. have talked to two people at the dealership who have had this happen with either a jeep or pacifica. to me this is a serious safety concern that could get someone injured or killed if in traffic. i removed all other keys and even the ring from the ignition key to try to prevent this from happening. with this information, the dealer has agreed to replace the ignitiion cylinder; i asked that they check the other grand cherokees to see if it's a common problem several days ago, but they have not yet responded. to me as an engineer, there are two problems: the ignition switch is very low on the dashboard where the key can easily be hit, and the two positions on the switch are very close together, making this problem easy to occur. if there is the slightest weakness in the spring in the ignition, this is even more likely.*ak

while driving on the freeway 70 mph and when slowing down to take an exit the vehicle shut down, there was no power at all. consumer was able to pull over and restart the vehicle. consumer drove the next day to the dealership and left the vehicle. dealer could find nothing wrong after three days. after picking the vehicle up from the dealer it shut down while at a stop light. consumer took it back to the dealer. no defects could be found. consumer went on a trip, and the vehicle stopped while making a right turn. again the dealer could not find any defects. *ak computer was replaced. there was also rear suspension noise. sunroof is noisy. *tt

our 2005 jeep grand cherokee 5.7l limited has now on two occasions when stopped and in gear with brake on , rapidly accelerated. once in reverse, and once in forward. the first time was on jan 14th when i was behind the wheel waiting for my wife to get in after just backing out of the garage and resting my foot on the brake pedal. fortunately, just before she stepped into the open door the car accelerated rapidly backward at full throttle until i could hit the breaks hard. the car went approximately 40 feet. again yesterday as my wife stopped at the side of the road to get our mail, she realized she needed to backup and get closer to the mail box. as she pulled forward-a distance of 10 feed, she came to a gradual stop just before the mail box. the car then leaped forward at high acceleration smashing off two mailboxes mounded on a 4*4 post splitting it in half, then went approximately 15 feet before crashing through a snow bank and hitting a large wooded hedge. damage was limited to large scratch in the hood, small dents above head light, dent on front quarter panel , and small dent on right door. we have filed a police report, contacted our insurance agent, and contacted chrysler who promised to do an investigation next week. my assessment is the break pedal, and the gas pedal is 2.5 inches apart, and when you slowly apply the break it will squash to the point that it is at or below the gas pedal level. if wearing heavy shoes or boots this causes the side of the shoe to hit the gas pedal therefore the rapid acceleration of the very responsive 5.7 hemi engine. we would like very much to notify all who are driving this vehicle to be very careful...as this situation could have been fatal in both situations.*ak

problem********wife and myself were unaware we were stepping on the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time.********** i figured it out twice in time to avoid wreck by standing on brake with left foot. my 7 month pregnant wife while standing on brake with ample stopping distance rear-ended another vehicle. i believe there are two contributing factors to design flaw in this '05 jeep grand cherokee. one is same-level positioning of brake and accelerator pedals and the super quiet "quiet steel" composition of cockpit. made it possible for us to be unaware of engine noise while stepping on gas and brake at he same time. the engine pushed the vehicle thru a stop while standing on the brake and we could not hear the engine accelerating. in my mind this is a big deal safety issue. my wife had an accident just last night with minor damage and we intend to start dealing with the retailer tonight after work. *jb

i have a 2005 grand cherokee laredo under 3000 miles. my engine light has come on less than 10 times ,and my car has stalled when come to stop light or complete stop about 5 times. i have made 5 trips to the dealer and the first few times they could not find anything wrong with it. then they determined it was related to the remote start which they had installed. i got it back and they said it was fixed and it stalled out when i pulled into my driveway that very day. engine light came on again exactly 1 week later. engine light is still on now. this will be my 7th trip to the dealer for this problem. i would also like to say that i have also hit the key in the ignition twice which made the car shut off and my car has also revved up with the brake on just as the other complaints on this site. i am also only getting 12 miles per gallon!*ak

i have not purchased the vehicle. the 2005 jeep grand cherolee has significantly shortened the front seat belts, to the point where a larger individual would be totally unable to buckle the belt, even with the seat all the way back. i do not have this problem with my 1999 grand cherokee, or any other vehicle i have ever owned or rented. the significantly shorter seat belt will cause people not to buckle up, and is a safety hazard for any driver.*ak

i purchased a 2004 special edition jeep grand cherokee in feb 2003. this vehicle is strictly used for pleasure and currently has less then 18,000 miles. i do not live in the mountains where brakes are used excessively. the brake rotors were warped at 12,100 miles. the dealership refused to warranty and said there was not issue with the braking sytem. they are once again warped with now less then 18,000 miles. i called the dealership who blew me off and placed a complaint with chrysler who is yet to respond, however i was given a reference number, reference number: 13282345 i had the rotors cut the first time and replaced with a gm product the second time. i did some research and know i am not alone in this and also noted that the company issued a notice to the dealerships in june of 04, yet they continue to deny any problem.*ak

just purchased a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. i noticed when i test drove several and ended up ordering from the factory that the front seat belts are too short. while i can get the belt to buckle, i am unable to have much forward motion such as if i'm reaching for something. i am not that big so seat belt extenders should not be warranted. never had this problem in any other vehicle, incliuding 2001 grand cherokee i traded. if i am carrying a passenger that is larger than me, there is bo way that they will be able to fasten the belt. obviously, this could end up being a safety issue.*ak

while driving on i-95 at about 0630 hours east bound towards exit 53 in branford, ct when and without any noise or warning it became extremely difficult to steer the 2005, jeep grand, cherokee. this vehicle had at the time of the catastrophic loss of steering fluid, 520 miles on the odometer. dealer, branhaven motors , branford, ct has indicated that the belt, hose to the power steering unit,and hood insulation mat will be replaced. power steering fluid was sprayed over the entire engine compartment. no fire only an acrid odor. question? what about the power steering unit. was the unit damaged by this sudden and complete loss of power steering fluid? will the repair make the vehicle whole or will this occur again?the old parts have not been requested since the work will not be completed until april 22, 2005.*ak

i was performing an oil change on the vehicle. as soon as i crawled under it to start, i noticed the right side of the front differential where the axle tube mates, was covered in diff oil. i took the vehicle to the dealer and was told it was "normal seepage". i find it hard to believe a gasket can only hold fluid for less than 6000 miles before leaking. dealer refused to correct it.

i read in the news today that the nhtsa is investigating the brakes on a number of gm products. i wish that you had included jeep grand cherokee brakes for 1999 through 2004 models. the design is such that pulsation, sometimes severe, occurs after 10k to 15k miles due to the rotors warping. my dealer either resurfaces the existing rotors or replaces them at no charge. in 1999 the dealer blamed the problem on a new design and supplier problems. my 2004 model had to be taken in for pulsating front brakes at 18,500 miles, and i was told that chrysler was locked into a contract with their supplier that they could not break, which is why substandard parts continue to be supplied but replaced at no charge. for chrysler to go through 5 model years knowing they were supplying substandard brake components is inexcusable! the brake problem with their 1999 model was an engineering and/or supplier problem. the brake problem with the 2004 model is a senior management problem. brake work done on my 1999 model and 2004 model was done exclusively by the local jeep dealer, and those records are in their system should you wish to pursue this. the vin number of the 1999 model, with which i experienced multiple brake problems was vin [xxx] and the 2004 model experiencing the same problem is vin [xxx]. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

while driving on a busy streetwith my 2 children in the car, i had to stop @ a red light and when the light turned green, i proceeded to go but couldn't and realized that the car had shut off. i tried to restart the car in a hurry due to oncoming traffic but was unable to. finally i find the hazard lights and put them on to let people know that my vehicle was stalled. i had to take the key completeley out and put it back in to restart the vehicle. i could've had an accident. took the car in and left it there for 3 days and the dealership stated that there was nothing wrong with my car and to take it home. so i did. i went out of town that weekend and the same thing happened with the exception of the vehicle was actually in motion when it shut off for the second time on a another busy street. i quickly turned on the hazard lights and once again had to restart the vehicle. as i was making my way back into to town, the check engine light came on and i took the car back to the dealership for another 3 days all for them to say that they reprogrammed the transmission and engine computers and that should resolve the problem. but it didn't... it shut off again about a week later right after i dropped my kids off at school. this is ridiculous and is a safety hazard. i took it back again, keep in mind this is the third time...this time they changed out the ignition cylinder after 4 days. i have only had it back now for 4 days and once again the car shut off at a light on a busy street. so the people at the dealership will be seeing me again!!! this is dangerous and very inconvienent for me and my family.

since i purchased the car in january i have had about a dozen incidents where upon fully depressing the brake the gas pedal was also pressed accelerating the car. the most frieghtening time was on the 12th. where the car shot out into traffic and i had to swerve to avoid an accident. it is more likely to happen when wearing more bulky shoes. it is obvious that the brake and gas pedal are improperly located with respect to each other. i have driven many cars over my lifetime and this is the only car that has presented this problem. i intend to bring this problem to the attention of the dealer as well as chrysler. i have researched several other similar complaints.

head restraint on my new jeep grand cherokee limited (2005) tilts forward a few inches (compared with my previous 2002 laredo). there is no adjustment to pull the head restraint back, only an up and down option. the head restraint is pushing my head forward instead of it being straight with my body as i drive the vehicle. this turtles the head and causes headaches. the manufacturer and jeep dealer have not provided a remedy or refund thus far.

air bag warning light goes on intermittently. jeep told me it has to do with the switch in the passenger seat. jeep said that after someone sits in the passenger seat a few times that switch will work properly and the light will not go on anymore.

brake system - vehicle keeps displaying warining message "service electronic braking system". dealership has tried to fix this message on four attempts. parts have been replaced along wth updates to the calibration by chrysler all to no solution. problem usually returns less than a day or two after receiving vehicle from dealership. dealer noted one other customer is having the same problem, chrysler is trying different methods on each vehicle top correct the problem....ie. they are not sure why it is happening and are basically throwing darts hoping to cure the problem.

i have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. several times since i bought it in march the engine has suddenly stopped while i was driving. when i stop the car and put it in neutral, the engine will immediately restart. the dealer has not been able to find why this is happening. this is far more than a nuisance. should it happen, for example, while i'm passing another car, it could result in a crash. i have talked to jeep about this and they claim this condition is impossible. however, the dealer told me that his regional manager has experience the same problem with his 2005 jeep. however i have discovered the source of the problem. the key and ignition switch have been mounted on the steering column. should the driver inadvertently bump the key with his/her leg, you can stop the car. i have confirmed this condition and reported it to the dealer. he mentioned that the regional manager also suspected this was the case. i am a normal sized male, 165 pounds, 5' 11". it should not be possible to stop the car in the manner i am describing. it has happened to me several times since i took delivery of the vehicle. i believe this is a condition that is dangerous and needs to be pursued by daimler chrysler asap. registered professional engineer,

car purchased 6/20/05 with 0 miles. car taken to repair 7/11/05 with 450 miles. some where on the residential streets a pebble went into the car and damaged the air compressor. freon has been leaking since the impact. the service dept can not pin point just how long the freon has been leaking but all i know is that i am 6 months pregnant and have 2 other little girls that have been inhailing this freon. the car damage is not covered under waranty since this is a road hazard. however, the car is designed to drive through mountains and rocky roads. there is a designer fault since the new cars do not have a protection grid /net to prevent debris from doing such damage. the older models do have this. when i asked the service dept of prevention devise they only stated that the car was designed this way and that i am not the only person with this simular problem with this new jeep laredo 2005.

dt: consumer stated his vehicle was designed so that the driver and passenger rear seats have head rests that make it impossible to properly install a forward facing car seat in the rear seat. the head rests strike the top of the car seat so that the consumer can not put the car seat flush against the back seat. the only place the car seat will properly fit is in the middle of the rear seat. the consumer stated that two car seats can't be in the back seat. consumer contacted the manufacturer and they referred him to a dealer that is licensed to install car seats. the dealer told the consumer that this was a problem, the dealer had already informed the manufacturer of the problem. manufacturer says that they have fixed problem for 2006 year model by replacing the headrests, but they can not do anything to retrofit 2005 year models. the consumer says that the only solution is to buy a much smaller and not as safe car seat. *jb

dt: two months ago there was an accident after driving about 60 mphon the interstate. the vehicle began to rev u by itself. the brakes were pushed, but the vehicle was still going too fast to stop. the vehicle has both automatic and standard, and the vehicle changed itself to standard. when car was taken to the dealership, they said they couldn't do anything. owner was afraid to drive it but it was able to run. the owner hasn't driven it since the incident. the car was 2005 jeep cherokee. owner has not called daimler chrysler.*ak

dt: while driving down the street at 15 mph and the front right tire came off, including the wheel and part of the axle. there was no warning before the accident. the tire hit a car that was empty. the police did not file a report. the owner went to the dealership, and told them about the problem. the dealer had the vehicle towed, and chrysler was contacted. the chrysler representative did an inspection. chrysler sent a letter notifying the owner that there was nothing they could do. dealership will not even give the owner a loaner vehicle. the problem was not reported to the insurance company. owner did not feel that insurance company should be contacted since it will cause his insurance to go up. dealer stated that there was nothing they could do, and they had no idea what could have happened. there were no injuries.*ak *jb

i attempted to install a car seat for a 3 year old child in the back seat of my 2005 grand cherokee. however, the head rest interfered with proper installation of the car seat. the head rest would not allow the seat to be tightly mounted to the back seat of the car, but rather held the child seat out by about 2-3 inches. this prevented the seat from being safely installed. it is very difficult to remove the head rest from this vehicle. i had to take it to the dealer to get this done. but when the head rest is removed, there are two "prongs" that protrude out, making the situation even more dangerous. i called chrysler to get advice on what to do. they said go to the dealer, but the dealer could not solve the problem either. i then called chrysler again, and they insisted this is not a problem. but it is! daimler- chrylser needs to address this problem. it is a design flow. at the very least they should provide a list of infant car seats that can be properly installed -- if any such seats exist. *jb

i leased a 2005 grand cherokee lardo (v8) on june 30, 2005. during the first 1.5 months the vehicle has stalled out loosing complete power on 5 seperate occasions. june 24th - pulling out of my driveway june 26th - backing out of my driveway august 20th - pulling out of my driveway august 21st - while traveling 70mph on the expressway (us-23) while traveling 50mph on us-24 when the vehicle stalls it would loose complete power (dash board lights, radio, and yes power steering). after the two expressway incidents i immediately took it back to the dealership where after looking at it they told me they were aware of this problem, but did not know what was causing it or how to fix it so i could pick up the vehicle that afternoon. they also told me they had a few of their own mechanics experience this same problem, but it just went away. i ended up going through several different managers before speakign with the dealership general manager. the following day (the second day they had the vehicle in the garage they told me they gave me wrong information and this has hever happened before....they were aware of 2004 grand cherokees having a starting problem not a stalling out while driving problem. they said they would not give me a new vehicle or terminate my lease when i requested it since i feel this car is unsafe for my wife to drive with my child. they have now sent it home with a mechanic so he can drive it back and forth to work to see if it happens again. they have not repaired or replaced any parts.

with only 10,500 miles on our leased 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited- the vehicle has spent the last 27 days in a service repair center. the issues began with a rough transmission, car sticking in 3rd gear - "limp mode" (required car to pull over, park & restart to disable limp mode), ac getting hot on acceleration with strong chemical smell, greasy oil leak on inside of cabin out of hood release opening, excessive road noise, check engine light remained on, and easy entry/exit seat not functioning. according to my ten page invoice, the service center replaced the rear drive shaft, entire transmission, almost all the modules (one of which was already replaced for fog light recall), updated firmware, a kick panel and trim on the inside of the cabin that was stained from grease leak, balanced all 4 tires, power flushed, replaced sensors... amongst other things. my husband and i were informed that the ac unit was leaking into the transmission, that it was a very common problem with the jeeps, 300s and dodges. so serious, in fact, that chrysler may be considering a mass recall to remedy a gross oversight on their part to physically bend a dip stick to fit parts around it- causing a gap at the base of the rubber gasket that enabled water to enter trans (thro wiring harness). it took the service center 45 minutes to explain all the issues with our car & what was done to it to fix it. we've contacted a lemon law lawyer & are looking to take this to the highest level possible. for $40,000 we expect a lot more for our money!! fyi... trans still rough after all repairs!!!! *nm

dt: the consumer owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee which stalled after only being driven 450 miles. the stalling only occurred after cold starts or when the vehicle has not been driven for a long period of time. this occurred at reduced speeds when the consumer applied brake pressure. the engine would simply shut off. the vehicle will immediately restart on the first try. afterwards, the vehicle will run fine with no other problems. this has happened at least six to eight times. the consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer three times. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem and offered no explanation as to why this problem occurs. the dealer did perform a diagnostics test which produced no fault codes or failures. the last visit to the dealer did prompt a replacement of the crank shaft sensor, but the dealer did not say why this correction was necessary. since the replacement of the crank shaft sensor the vehicle has not stalled. however, there was a slight miss in the engine when brake pressure was applied. the consumer planned to contact the jeep manufacturer at this time. *ak *mr

dt: on september 10, 2005 while driving on the road and the vehicle shook. originally thought it was a flat tire, but there was not a flat tire. vehicle is at dealership, there are no codes showing up, have to wait for the problem to happen again, it shakes as if as going down road at 55 mph with a flat tire. the steering wheel was shaking and the vehicle seemed sluggish like it did want to go. when slowing down the vehicle the vibration would slow down. then, on september 22, 2005 went to apply the brakes and the light came on in the dashboard . after another five or six miles the brake pedal started vibrating, but like a smaller vibration compared to the vibrating. the dealership is looking at the brakes now also. *ak

transmission: i have a 05 jeep cherokee that has continuously had a transmission shudder problem. while driving, the transmission shudders, feels sluggish, jerking the vehicle forward and backward. it happens while traveling at various speeds, but it is excessive while at the 40 mph & 1500 rpm range. the first time it was taken to the dealership, they did a transmission flush and told me to pick it up. the second time, they ordered, then later replaced the drive line. the third time to dealership, the service technician said they reprogrammed the transmission. it has now been dropped off for the same problem 4 times, and still no remedy. i called the dealership again and told them about a possible recall i read about on the nhtsa website on the problem i was having. the public information specifically suggests a remedy, replace the torque converter (which has not been tried on my vehicle). i asked them why they couldn't use that information to fix my vehicle since it is still under warranty rather than wait to see if a recall is even issued, and i was told that the engineers are working on a remedy for the possible recall i was reading about, and it may not affect my vehicle. so, until that recall is issued, nothing can be done. air conditioner:on 9/22/05, while vehicle in motion, air conditioner, radio, &all dash lights went off at same time, stayed off for 5 seconds or so, then came back on. 5 miles or so later, the same thing happened again. later on the same day, the air conditioner would only work on the highest setting. on my way to the service appointment the next day, the air conditioner would come on and turn off itself, like it has an electrical short in it or the dash. i can also smell plastic burning/melting but can not locate where it is coming from. dealership now states that parts are not available to fix the air conditioner, and they do not have any timeline for parts availability. no clue why the dash lights shut down. *jb

it all started with the seats not staying in there settings(driver 1 driver 2. then the auto dimming rear mirrors would go dark at any time. the rain sensor wipers stopped working. the car would accelerate on it own. even when in park, then the seats started moving to driver 1 then 2 as i was driving it. the jeep also has a bad odor in it. it is at the dealer as i speak, the jeep is not safe to drive. fog light go on and off at any time as i was driving the jeep to the dealer the jeep started the speed up on it own the car hit 68 mph in a 45 mph zone , so as you would thing a state trooper pull me over, he ask me why it took me so long to pull over, so i told him the problems with the car, will the look he gave me ! then right in front of him as the car was in park the instrument panel lit up like a xmas tree and the car started to accelerate all by it self, will i did not get a ticket and he follow me to the dealer. *nm

the has a tendency to stall when shifting gear while backing up out of the drive after the car has been idle for a period of time. the transmission seems to "clunk" more than a new car should. also noticed the tendency for the car to stall in stop and go traffic conditions. it seems the transmission is not disengaging properly pulling the rpm below idle. shifting the car to neutral or giving gas prevents the engine from stalling. *jb

2005 jeep laredo exhibits apparent engine skipping, thrashing, etc when traveling at approx 1200-1500 rpm up a grade (engine under light load). dealer and manufacturer say that this is a performance characteristic of the vehicle. service manager of mckinney dodge in easley sc (tony) says that "every one of them do this, new or with a few miles - worse after a few miles". service manager indicates that he has no clue how to fix the problem, asked me to call national number (probably trying to get me off the lot). called national number, they called local dealer (tony) and were told that the problem could not be fixed, therefore denying that it was a problem at all. national chrysler folks said it was an operating characteristic of the vehicle and that nothing could/would be done "at this time". i put "500" under "number of failures" in the form below just because i had to put some number. it happens every time the car is driven. *jb

on september 29, 2005 at approximately 8:20am i was coming off of a highway exit ramp, when i came to a complete stop. shortly after coming to that stop, i noticed that my engine began to accelerate (rev) and that the rpm's on the speedometer was on its way down from about 5-6k. before i had a chance to look back up at the road, my vehicle lunged forward and struck the vehicle in front of me, causing extensive damage to the vehicle in front of me as well as mind. the impact of the collision was so powerful that the vehicle that i struck was pushed into a second vehicle, directly in front of the vehicle i struck. immediately after the collision my vehicle's engine continued to accelerate (rev), making me shift the vehicle from drive to neutral. once the vehicle was in neutral, my vehicle stalled out and was completely disabled. once i restarted my vehicle, i noticed that my vehicle's check engine,throttle ignition and esp (electronic stability program) light/indicator were on. i moved my vehicle from the scene of the accident to a parking lot, about a ¼ mile down the street and awaited a tow truck, all the while with my vehicle hesitating to accelerate. this is was the third time this has happened. the first time was on 08/17/05, when i came to a complete stop at a highway off ramp, my vehicle lunged forward and then stalled out. once able to turn on the vehicle, all the above indicator lights came on. i brought it to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong, "we were unable to replicate what you experienced." they also told me that this could have been a result of "bad gas." three hours after leaving the dealership (08/18/05) the same thing happened again. i brought the vehicle back to the dealership, again, and this time they told me, "something is wrong, we don't know what, but something is wrong." eventually, they replaced the vehicle's cpm (computer programming module) and everything seemed great , until 09/22/05 and the accident. *nm

i am writing to correct the details of my complaint posted on your web site. i spoke with someone on the phone yesterday and the entry posted is inaccurate. my husband was driving my 3 month old 2005 jeep grand cherokee on october 24th (not the 17th) when the engine stalled without warning. he was driving in the left lane of a busy highway during rush hour in the rain. he was able to restart the vehicle after reaching the shoulder of the road. he then stopped at a service station but they could not diagnose the problem. i called the service department at the dealership and was told to tell my husband to drive with the defrost on to keep the engine idle up. i then made a service appointment and asked to have the oil changed at the same time. they kept the truck overnight and said that the diagnostic tests did not reveal any problem and they were unable to duplicate the incident. i was also told that they discovered a "milky" substance when changing the oil and put in a new filter. they did not say that this was the problem. they told me that if it happened again, i should bring it back. my issue is that waiting for a vehicle to stall at high speed on a busy highway is a real safety concern. my husband and i are reluctant to drive the vehicle and actually rented a car to visit our son who is almost 250 miles away at college. i hope you will correct the entry as it is important for other owners who are experiencing the same problem to have the actual facts.*jb

i have a transmission leake. chrysler recall is e 13. i could not get a dealship to take the vehicle in on friday. called chrysler, they were not really any help, the did provide me the name of a dodge dealership in the area. they took the car friday 11/18/05, said they fixed the recall. the leak is worse that before. just like before i have transmission fluid spraying on the exhaust. this per chrysler's recall letter is a fire hazard. further the recall we recieved yesterday indicates that the transmission should have been flushed and/or the troque converter repalced. neither of these things were done. i have the car back and can not get a return call from the dealeship to get the car back into the shop. *nm

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo death trap. 1) engine shut off on driveway 2) check engine light on and off in 3 engine cycles 3) 70 mph on freeway. instrument panel dimmed, gauges went to zero and the engine shut off. veered to right and applied light brake pressure resulting in a brake lockup and freeway spin. car came to halt facing oncoming traffic. vehicle would not restart. placed in neutral and pushed off freeway. approximately five minutes later turned ignition switch and vehicle turned on 1st service true cause of check engine light reported unknown. true cause of driveway stall unknown. two codes stored in memory 01411 fuel rational, p2302 ignition circuit. vehicle test driven 200 miles with starscan. true cause of incident 3 reported as unknown true cause of stored codes reported unknown. car was released with undiagnosed problem 2nd service circuitry was tested and all values appeared to be within service manual specs no repairs were made and problem undiagnosed daimler chrysler recommended co-pilot recording device installation reluctantly were forced to become unpaid crash test dummies for a company who clearly didn't have our safety or well being in mind 4) speed 70 mph on freeway instrument panel dimmed, gauges went to zero and the engine shut off as instructed, the button was pressed on the dealer-installed co-pilot. when car velocity decreased application of brakes brought car to halt on side of road 3rd service upon diagnostics dealership found multiple codes: p0700, p0562, b210, u0151, b211b, b1ba6, b223d, b210d. service tech. contacted star and was advised to perform battery test and to inspect bulkhead and ignition connectors. no problems were found in these areas. assumption is that the problem lies in a massive electrical failure. following daimler chrysler technical rep recommendation engine control module was replaced and service books were closed is the car safe? no. contact us (surfstickers@hotmail.com)*jb

i continue to have an on-going problem with the transmission of my 2005 jeep grand cherokee 3.7l vehicle. it has been in the shop for (4) four service inspections due to a recurring transmission problem. the transmission will "shudder", "miss", "jump" usually between 3rd, 4th, and/or 5th gears between speeds of 30mph - 40mph. the vehicle received (2) two "computer downloads" to try to correct the problem, but it was unsuccessful. the third service trip resulted in no repair being made, due to the service department being unable to find the type of problem that existed. the fourth trip consisted of the "transmission recall" service being performed, again with no change in the performance of the vehicle. while i continue to have the same problem, i am "at a loss" as to how to have the vehicle repaired. *nm

this is a safety issue regarding the recent recall of the 2005 jeep with transmission problems. because of the transmission problems our jeep stopped dead while we were going 65 miles an hour on the new jersey turnpike. luckily we were not killed. we had it towed over 100 miles to our dealer on long island (east hills chrysler jeep) to have it fixed. they swore they fixed it a few days later, only for this to happen to us again a month later. we towed it again to our jeep dealer and shortly after we were told, this time it was really fixed. for the third time, a month later, it happened again. after avoiding being killed 3 times, we do not trust they know how to fix this recall. it is a leased jeep and all we want is to be let out of the lease and they refuse. they swear now it is really fixed. did they lie the other 2 times? i am afraid to drive this car or let anyone i love in the car, as well as possibly endanger anyone driving near us. i think this is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed for the rest of the recalled jeeps, but for us, we just want a different car. this dealer's service department obviously doesn't know how to fix it and this should be investigated. also, we contacted daimler chrysler¿�s customer service department numerous times. we were listened to sympathetically but nothing was ever done about it. update: i decided to wait to see if our jeep dealership would do the right thing before i sent this in, but they refused and made us pick it up after they claimed it was yet again really fixed for the third time. a few days later, on december 11th, it broke down again. the car was towed back to them - the 4th time it has broken down from this same problem. now they are saying there is nothing wrong with the car. this service department does not know what it is talking about. they refuse to do the right thing for us but more importantly, they do not know how to fix a nationally recalled problem. *nm

the automatic transmission of my 2005 jeep grand cherokee ,began acting unusual in mid november 2005. the transmission would clunk when put into drive , the vehicle seemed to hesitate before moving, also on 2 occasions the vehicle would down shift to first gear and then back to drive on its own while in motion. on december 18, 2005 i told the jeep dealer service manger of the problem when i took the vehicle in , i had received from daimler-chrysler a recall notice concerning the transmission , as far as i know the dealership performed the recall repair. the vehicle seemed fine until december 30, 2005 when while traveling on the expressway at 55 miles per hour with the cruise control engaged the vehicle again downshifted to first gear momentarily , all the warning lights came on then shifted back to drive the engine revved up and speed up unexpectedly . i then lost control of the vehicle spinning out and hitting the concrete divider wall of the expressway. the vehicle sustained over $10,000 in damage, luckily there were no injuries to me or my passenger. i have notified chrysler and my insurance company of problem, at this point i have not authorized any collision repairs to this vehicle. chrysler said they would inspect the vehicle, i await to see what they will do. i don't intend to repair or drive this vehicle again or any jeep cherokee ,for that matter as to its unsafe transmission . *nm

dt*: the contact stated there was nhtsa recall campaign 05v396000 regarding the automatic transmission. the recall was performed on the vehicle, but afterwards it continued to shudder while driving. although the repairs were performed accordingly the vehicle had a strong shudder that could physically be felt by the contact as well as a loud chatter from the transmission. while shifting from park to reverse there was a loud clanking noise. aside from the problem with the automatic transmission the electrical system displayed some abnormalities. while driving the dashboard panel lights illuminated and all of the gauges, such as the fuel and speedometer failed to register. the defroster which was in use at that time stopped working. this problem lasted only a matter of seconds but returned to normal when the check engine light illuminated. this occurred 5 or 6 times in a 5 mile radius and abruptly stopped with no further incident. when the contact returned the vehicle to the dealer for the automatic transmission, the electrical system problem was reported to the service department. the contact left the vehicle at the dealer for inspection. however, the service department has been unable to duplicate the problem. *ak

vehicle experiences a shuddering, hesitation or bucking motion when driving around town 20-30 mph and also on the highway. taken to blevins brothers in ogdensburg, ny and had e13 recall completed. problem continued. e-mailed chrysler customer relations about problem and told the info i was requesting was "either proprietary or unavailable". also made a phone call to chrysler customer relations and had them note additional complaint regarding problem. blevins brothers service manager arranged for vehicle to be taken by a technician to a daimler chrysler school for evaluation by course instructor. he agreed there was a problem and suggested replacement of torque converter as water may have damaged unit prior to e13 recall completion. torque converter was replaced. problem continued and became worse due to fall and winter temperature drop. was advised by blevins brothers to call chrysler customer relations and have them open a claim on the vehicle. chrysler refused to open cair claim and told me i should contact dealer. they also told me there was a booklet in the glove compartment i should read. the booklet referred to provided info about state lemon laws. dealer said chrysler has told them this is a characteristic of the vehicle and there is no fix for it nor is any planned. a chrylser engineer (gary vleck) says they haven't had any other complaints. he refused to come to the dealership to drive the vehicle. i feel this a flaw in the mds (multi-displacement system) that regulates whether there are 8 or 4 cylinders in operation. i also feel chrysler is trying to stonewall the problem by telling customers that this is how their vehicle is supposed to operate. they are hoping customers will not take it any further and give up. this mds engine is also present in magnums, chargers, 300s, durangos, commanders and 06 rams. it would be interesting to see if this problems exists with these vehicles. *nm

my 2005 jeep grand cherokee needed a flat changed. the jack in the car was not able to jack the car high enough to get the flat wheel dismounted easily nor could the new wheel be mounted from the trunk. the dealer sent a shop mechanic who also could not get the jack high enough. i had to call aaa. i also know of 3 more jeeps (2-2005 and 1-2006) with the same potential problem. oddly, one of them, which is owned by a lady friend, had the oddest problem. my brother-in-law was driving it one day. turns out there was a wheel shimmy going on. he stopped the vehicle on the side of the highway. when he called me he indicated 3 lug bolts were missing which we both thought strange. he subsequently coaxed the car very slowly home. the dealer charged the lady for the repair and remounting of a new tire. i suspect that she had a flat, got some help and because the new wheel was not mounted in a true fashion because the car could not be raised high enough, she just had to make do. that was dangerous for the lady. as it turns out, my wife also has one of the jeeps i mentioned, and i have instructed her to just call aaa when and if she gets a flat, so the tire can be dismounted and remounted with the new one safely. all our cars have 17" wheels. the jack needs to go up at least 2-3 inches more to all for proper mounting or else the wobble will result and hence , ultimately the bolts will break off given the stress. i mentioned it to my dealer once i had aaa repair my car and asked the dealer to repair and get the problem fixed with the manufacturer. i also think the lady i mentioned who paid for her repairs because of jeep's equipment design defect should be reimbursed for her misery. *jb

brand new 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo, right front passenger door was being opened, a gust of wind caught the door and hyper-extended it causing it to be misalinged. the next time the door was opened, the front lip of the door caught on the rear of the right front fender and caused a dent in the fender approximately 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. to properly fix damage, right front fender was replaced and painted, right front door was repaired and repainted, hood was repainted to blend with new paint on fender and door. total cost of repairs was approximately $1,300. important to note, no other damage to any other vehicles, property or people was caused by this gust of wind. it happened in a grocery store parking lot and there were lots of other people, cars and property around. nothing else was damaged and the gust of wind seemed very minor. in 30+ years of driving i have never experienced damage to a door due to a wind gust nor have i ever heard from anyone i know of receiving damage to a door due to a wind gust. this appears to me to be a door hinge design flaw. *nm

orange passenger air bag light on at all times, even with passenger seat unoccupied since day of purchase. customer was told at dealership that this was normal if seat was unoccupied. after a few months, the orange passenger air bag light and the red air bag light are on continuously, or the illuminations alternate every few minutes. jeep cherokee taken to dealership. customer was told it was a calibration problem, and that the orange light should only be on if between 1 and 25 pounds or so where in the seat. no problems for one month (lights were off, no passengers in the vehicle). orange and red lights now alternating again every few minutes yesterday and today (march 1&2, 2006). *nm

i have a 2005 jeep cherokee with a v8 engine that was not included in the recall. my car sat for 5 days while i was on vacation. upon returning the battery was completely dead, i had the battery jumped and drove home from airport. the battery was dead again the next morning, vehicle was towed to dealership. after replacing the battery and an oil change, the vehicle began stalling when stopped at red lights or stop signs. the vehicle was also lunging forward when stopped. i have had the vehicle at the dealership four times for this problem and have gotten the same response "road tested- normal condition at this time". the service rep even called me to tell me he drove the vehicle and thought it was the transmission, that there is a hesitating shift and a jerks hard forward on acceleration. however they were unable to find anything wrong. vehicle has 9,000 miles. *jb

we have a safety issue with the adjustable gas pedal in our company car a 2005 jeep. the problem is that the pedal adjustment has no indicator that lets you know that the pedal has been moved by another employee. recently we had an event were an employee drove the car a long distance and did not know that the jeep had an adjustable pedal. the employee complained that his foot cramped during the 300 mile trip and he did not know why. he was not aware of the adjustable pedal feature of the jeep since there was no indicator light or gauge to let him know that the pedal had been set for a much shorter person. the employee also complained that during this trip he found himself driving faster than the speed limit and had to use cruise control to maintain his speed...again he was not aware that the pedal had been moved closer to the driver and his normal position of his foot pushed the pedal down more then normal. *nm

was driving on interstate 70 mph, light lit up, i couldn't accelerate, my car immediately slowed down, i barely managed to coast over to the side of road while dodging traffic. immediately put the car in park, shut the car off, turned car back on, put into drive, wouldn't budge. made the noise as if i was in neutral while pressing on accelerator. i shut the car off, pulled out the manual, read i could experience loss of power, not to drive the car, report immediately to be repaired. i called the 24 towing number, had the jeep towed to the dealership. when i received call from the dealership on april 10, i was told this issue was related to the recall problem that i had repaired in february. after further conversation on tuesday with the service department at the dealership i was given explanation that when i brought the vehicle in for the recall in february 2006, there was already damage done to the vehicle, they had to flush the engine. the power outage i experienced on the interstate was related to the recall, and in addition, they had to flush my engine again and replace a valve in the transmission. when i expressed that i wasn't comfortable driving the vehicle which such safety issues, the service man also agreed it was a safety factor. i was on the phone with chrysler yesterday, and was told that once this problem occurs a 3rd time, i can then go to arbitration, and take the next step, but that step wasn't clear. after expressing my desire to get out of my lease because of the safety concerns, i was told they couldn't do that. the 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo is my 3rd jeep i have driven, no prior vehicle has had problems. at this point, i am supposed to go and pick up my vehicle even though i am not comfortable driving it, in the hopes the next time my power shuts down, i am alive to tell about it. and when that day comes, chrysler can then take the next step in pursuing further action. *nm

i was driving down the road to go play golf when i noticed an odd sound from the rear end of my 2005 grand limited w/hemi. on the way home i noticed the sound was in all gears and all speeds but much more notable at low speeds. i drove it to the dealership as soon as possible and took a mechanic for a ride and he thought the noise was a bad pinion bearing. after closer inspection they determined the whole rear end of the car needed to be rebuild. 15,000 miles and i need a new rear end? for a $42,000 suv this sure is not what i expected. so now i am out of my car for a week to two weeks while they get the parts and rebuild. so now i have a new "rebuilt" suv for the same payments...doesn't seem right at 15,000 miles. rkm. *nm

i have numerous problems with the engine light coming on. this has been going on for some months now. i have taken the vehicle to the dealership for this problem at least three different times. my engine comes on and stays on for days at a time. the dealership was unable to diagnose the problem. than for last few months, while i am driving all the gears on my dashboard light up and wont allow me to give the car any gas, and makes a sound like the engine is reving up. this can happen two to five times a day. now, when i put the car from park to reverse it is a making a long banging noise and jerking the car. *jb

i am the owner of a 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo. on more than 10 occasions since i have purchased the vehicle i have inadvertently shut of the engine by hitting the key with my knee while driving at highway speeds. i believe this is due to the placement of the ignition directly above the driver's knee. to date i have been able to maintain control of the vehicle and get it restarted before an accident occurred. however, without power steering if i had been on a curve i doubt i would have been able to maintain control of the vehicle. i have been in touch with daimler chrysler via email in an attempt to resolve this situation to no avail. this may be unique to me but i consider it to be a serious safety condition that needs to be rectified. i have asked them to allow me to terminate my lease without success. at this point there is no alternative but to ask that an investigation be initiated to determine whether my concern is an individual problem or a serious safety defect. thank you for you prompt attention to this matter. *nm

dt*: the contact stated while changing the gear from drive to reverse there was a clicking noise. this occurred intermittently. while attempting to apply pressure to the accelerator pedal the engine made a roaring noise and the vehicle failed to pick up speed. the dealership rebuilt the transmission, however no other repairs have been made. the manufacturer has been alerted. updated 6/27/2006 - the vehicle battery would not hold a charge. the headliner had to be replaced because it was unraveling.. the sunroof motor had to be replaced. the transmission was rebuilt on 2-27-06 with on 90000 miles. the memory seat did not move back at times when the key was removed from the ignition. the tire pressure monitoring system was inoperative. the power steering pump was binding and had to be replaced. the air bag light illuminated on the dash. the rear windshield wipers were not flush with the windshield. *nm

i have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo on 2 different occasions my engine sounds like it is revving at full throttle but i have no power. the rpm does not reflect this. both incidents have been first thing in the morning and there is no warning. fortunately i have had enough power to get the vehicle off the road. i estimate my speed to be approximately 5-10 mph. i am hoping that if you have had similar complaints that you can advise me what was done to fix the problem. i have had the jeep to the shop on two different occasions but they advise me since they cannot replicate the problem they cannot fix it. thank you for any assistance you can give me. *jb

local carwash employee entered into a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. when ignition was turned on, the vehicle redlined and accelerated off of conveyor. employee hit the break with no response. the vehicle collided with another vehicle and went through a towel cabinet and a brick wall. four employees and myself were nearly killed. i took the driver out of the vehicle and while no one was in it, it was still trying to drive through the wall on it's own. while driving, all of the gauges will suddenly turn-off (including gas gauge, speedometer, odometer, temperature, and tachometer.) when this happens, the turn signals also stop working, as well as the headlights and dashboard lights. this has happened multiple times, and one time while driving at night. the car has been in the shop five times for the above stated problems (currently still in the shop). supposedly on the fourth visit, the dealership replaced the "cluster panel." however, this obviously did not resolve the problem as within two hours after picking up the problems happened again. *jb

i bought new a 2005 grand cherokee limited 2wd 4.7 at approx. 3k miles it seems to have transmission problems shifting into 3rd gear and a shuddering/ missing when cruising at any speed. sometime when you stop there is a thank you can feel. the dealership i purchased it at doesn't want to service it because i submitted a bad service survey to chrysler. a dealership in the next town told me they would need to replace the transmission. i waited one week for parts to come in then took it to the dealer which told me all it need was a update to the computer which had already been done by the selling dealer. i took it to the next biggest dealership which has worked with me on the transmission problems having it in the shop a week at a time a least twice. they replace seals in the transmission but it hasn't fixed the problem and it seems the more mile i put on it the worse it gets. now i sometime have a loud roaring noise the sounds like a busted muffler coming from the transmission area. *nm

while driving my 2005 jeep grand cherokee i have experienced unwanted acceleration while braking on numerous occasions. this vehicle is equipped with the adjustable pedals. i have owned and driven jeeps for many years, to include 1996 grand cherokee and 2002 grand cherokee. i have never experienced this problem. it appears there is insufficient space between the accelerator and the brake pedal. i wear a size 12 shoe and i must make a very conscious effort to get my foot further to the left that is normal. i also have driven my 2004 dodge ram pick up over two hundred thousand miles from june 2004 to oct 2005 commercially and never had such an experience. my wife normally drives the jeep and she has commented on having the same experience. she almost rear ended a car as a result of these pedals being to close. we have adjusted the pedals up and down and get the same results. the same day she mentioned her experience i had a repeat performance myself. this is a very dangerous situation and i intend to take this car into waconia dodge /jeep for inspection. i will also send a note to the manufacturer. jeep drivers need to be aware of this hazard and confront the manufacturer to get a fix -- i have only experienced this hazard in the jeeps with adjustable pedals. *jb

after filling the gas tank of my 2005 jeep grand cherokee 5.7 liter hemi i accelerated onto the interstate and the car began to decelerate and all the information lights came on and began to flicker on and off as well as the headlights. vehicle then proceeded to drive normally with check engine light on but not pulsating. dealer next day could not look at it as i did not have an appointment. after several stops and turning engine off the check engine light went out. several days late the information gauge lights flashed and received a code message to service electric brake system. then they recycled and has been clear since. *nm

i have a 2005 jeep cherokee with 3,000 miles. i took it in for a transmission seal recall, e13. two days after it was serviced, i was on the highway and the transmission burned up, leaving me stranded. car had to be towed 150 miles to dealer who handled recall. my car has been in the shop a month. i am having to pay daily car rental which has now cost me over $1,200 in addition to having to make a car payment for a car i don't have. i keep getting different answers from dealer, said transmission ordered days ago from new jersey, now says it was ordered yesterday, july 14, he says he can't tell me anything, when, if it is new or rebuilt, or how much longer i have to wait. i have never been treated so rudely by a dealership, manager, and service manager. i will never purchase a vehicle from that dealer again and i am inclined to never buy another jeep product. i am at the point of turning the car back and seeking legal action if something isn't done about this outrageous situation. *jb

purchased vehicle on 7-31-06. upon test drive the door locks would nt lock or unlock when using door key (any dr in the car). the remote did work. salesman told us 2 bring it in if it cont'd. taken in 5 times since the 1st time in october 05', dealerships cannot dupt the issue. last dealership said that if he toggled switch about 10 times it happened, but that was just "overheating the button & that is normal". problem is i work in a building w/a prkg garage & work all hrs. when i get into my car, 4 safety i lock the drs immed. there have been several occasions where i can't do that & have 2 wait 2 get the car moving over the 15mi an hour 2 lock the drs. next issue is the delayed engagement in the transmission going 2 rev or drv. the car has been in on 3 occasions for this item of which the dealership clears codes or cannot dupt the issue. this issue became a an issue in a construction zone at a rr track near our home. gates were down when i drove up & i was 3rd car back, the gates went up, 2 cars went through & i was almost at the tracks when the railroad arms started coming down again. i put on the brakes & shifted to reverse 2 back up & the delay nearly caused the rr arm 2 hit the car. i backed up just enough to clear the rr arm by less than 6 inches. the last item is the a/c. since late march of 06' we have been experiencing the a/c blowing cold, then the air turns 2 warm or hot air blowing from 3 sec 2 minutes of blowing humid air before the system will kick in again with cold air. this has been intermittently like the other 2 items above. 3 times into the dealerships & again it was stated they fixed it when it wasn't or "it's 114 degrees out, it is going 2 blow warm air". "using outside air will make the a/c blow warm air'. the incident date is hard since there are 3 issues so i put the day of purchase. the failures are also hard to calculate, but since these items happen intermittently & or everyday (a/c) i counted 3 mo worth. *nm

i took possession of a new jeep grand cherokee on 29 june 2005. that afternoon, when first driven above 60 mph, a front-end vibration (oscillation) was immediately evident. actually the vibration is present at all speeds. i arranged for a service appointment at steve christy chrysler jeep here in tucson. my first warranty visit for the vibration problem was made on 18 july 2005. the diagnosis there was a bad tire, which i had replaced at a goodyear tire shop per instructions from this dealership. it had no effect on the vibration. i have since been in to jim click chrysler jeep in tucson on three occasions for a total of eight full days. the vibration persists. i was informed that i would be unable to have further repair attempts without direction from chrysler engineering. the latest repair attempt resulted in a modification to the drive shaft by adding six weights at positions on the drive shaft. after this activity, which did not fix the vibration, i was told that the remaining vibration was " in the design". i had a local respected automotive shop evaluate the vibration and they concluded it had a problem. i asked three fellow engineers to evaluate the vibration and all concluded there was a problem. (note, one of the engineers has five years experience driving and testing vehicles professionally.) chrysler still claims the vibration is " in the design". the vibration is bad enough that i am afraid to take the vehicle on a road trip or tow a trailer. the vibration is at times violent and i do not know if something could break or if the oscillation could cause loss of control. i was informed by a maintenance supervisor that there were two reasons for chrysler to take the "in the design" position. 1) there are thousands of vehicles that made it out of the factory with this problem and 2) the problem is a chassis alignment flaw and can not be repaired. *nm

my wife had a flat tire this date and when the tire shop she took it to, pulled the tire from the wheel and noticed bubbles on the walls on the inside of the tire. they told her the tire was defective, but she probably caused the defect by draining it 15 minutes with slightly low tire pressure. tire pressures are monitored closely and checked at least monthly with very little variations ever detected. *jb

the goodyear wrangler hp's on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee are wearing terribly! there are only 6400 miles on the suv and the tires are feathering something awful! the vehicle was in for service and tire rotation july 31, 2006. i also asked the dealer to inspect the tread wear on the tires. the dealer stated that it was normal. i have since had the vehicle examined by a service/parts representative at a different local dealership. he stated that in no way was the tire wear normal. he added that the wear on my tires resembles that of a vehicle with nearly 20,000 miles on it. this is unacceptable in my eyes. *nm

i leased a 2005 jeep cherokee in june of 05. while traveling on i-69 to indianapolis in august of 05 my jeep shut off for no apparent reason. i called the dealership and told them of the situation. they told me if it happened again to let them know. everything was fine until june of 06 when we were again travel on i-69 and the vehicle shut off again. i called the dealership again and they took the vehicle in for service but could find nothing wrong with it. we got the vehicle back and three weeks later my husband was driving alone on i-69 and the vehicle again shut off almost causing an accident. i called the dealership and they have had it for about three weeks with various people driving it with an auto-pilot hooked up to it, but nothing has happened. so i now have a vehicle that i do not feel safe driving with my 16 month old in the car for fear that it will just shut off and cause an accident. something needs to be done about this problem before someone gets seriously hurt.*jb

***several problems with 2005 jeep cherokee laredo 3.7*** just after purchasing this vehicle in feb 2006 dealer had to replace the air conditioner because it would only work at one speed. after that the transfer case and shifter had to be replaced, next the windshield began to leak molding the carpets, next the steering wheel began making loud clicking noise when making deep turns, vehicle also has severe hesitation when going up hills, now my mechanic says there is transmission fluid all under the vehicle. have also bumped my knee against the key resulting in stalling. worst of all only getting 12-14 mpg!!!!!!have owned jeeps in the past, very unhappy with this one. *jb

on 9/1/06 while on vacation driving in stop and go traffic on california freeway, vehicle lost brakes and steering while vehicle in motion. i was able to pull off to side of freeway. turned car off and restarted and took to closest dealership. they hooked up to computer and found 3 error codes that they did no recognize. because of holiday weekend no one was available to look at the car until tuesday 9/5/06. this left me with extra expense because i had to rent a car for the duration of my vacation and had to stay an extra day for car. dealership contacted chrysler and they instructed them to reprogram computer and drive and re-test. no error codes reappeared and gave me my car back. while driving back home from california on 9/5/06 car engine shut off while at stop light. again had to turn off to get restarted. took into local dealership in hometown next day and they could not find anything wrong after having car for a day. again on 9/18/06 while driving out of parking structure, car engine again shut off. luckily, i did not hit anyone or anything. taking back to dealership again. *jb

2005 jeep grand cherokee - 07/26/2005 - vehicle did not start, dealer replaced battery. 06/10/2006 - stalled while at light, dealer attempted repair by tightening connection in junction box. 06/28/2006 - vehicle stalled while driving, dealer could not duplicate no repairs attempted. 07/07/2006 - vehicle stalled while on interstate, dealer replaced forward control module. 07/26/2006 - vehicle would not start - dealer could not duplicate no repairs attempted. 09/01/2006 - vehicle stalled while driving - dealer duplicated problem - dealer replaced battery. 09/15/2006 - vehicle stalled while driving, has been in dealer possession now for 7 days - cannot duplicate - no repairs attempted. vehicle has been out of service for same problem for a total of 39 days and counting. situation is a danger as the vehicle will just die while moving and driver cannot get it off road. vehicle only has 20,000 miles and has had problem since 155 miles. daimler chrysler's response is unacceptable - vehicle is a safety hazard and an accident waiting to happen. when is enough - enough? loss of life? maybe then someone will realize there is a problem with several of these 05 jeep grand cherokees with same problem! contact me karenhorrocks@bellsouth.net. *nm

2005 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle is a 6 cylinder with a nag 1 transmission. the vehicle was bought new in nov, 2005. it has around 17600 miles on it. the vehicle had been shuddering at various times, was inconsistent. usually around 1500 rpms. eagle auto mall, local jeep dealer stated nothing was wrong. coming home from store transmission started to whine and then stopped shifting. pulling into my driveway engine compartment started to smoke badly, almost went on fire . turned vehicle off. observed tranny fluid all over the engine and alot of tranny fluid on the ground. vehicle was towed to the eagle dealer, who after a week in the shop said there was water in the tranny fluid and that they were going to have to take apart the transmission. contacted chrysler told them that a vin check of my vehicle showed that it was not under the recall they had issued for this model, but there was a safety problem and that a new transmission should be placed in the vehicle. *nm

i purchased a 2005 jeep grand cherokee in january 2005. on august 25, 2006, i took the vehicle to normandin chrysler jeep because the check engine light had come on and the car was lurching, making noise and kept sliding into third gear. the car was returned to me after three plus weeks and the first time i drove it, my passenger and i were almost involved in an accident because the car died. the car was immediately returned to the dealership where it has been for over two weeks awaiting a "new" transmission. the car has been in the dealership for a total of 36 of the last 38 days. the car is still at the dealership. *nm

2005 jeep grand cherokee - ~21,000 miles on vehicle. the instrument cluster/gauges will randomly all light up at once, then go off one at a time as i am driving on the road. the speedometer, at the same time will go to 0 then will seem to 'reboot' and go back to the correct speed. again, all of this will happen randomly as i travel on the highways. i have taken this vehicle in 3 times to the westgate chrysler jeep dealership in raleigh, nc, and it has still not been corrected!! on the first trip, they just flashed the computer and sent me on my way. on the second trip there, the flashing happened to the technician so they replaced the junction box and said that should do it...but the problem still occurs. on the 3rd trip, they just hooked up the computer and said everything was fine. they called the chrysler technical service and they told them to just wait until it happens again...then bring it in?? it happens at random times, so it's difficult to 'just bring it in'. my jeep has become unsafe to drive at this point! when the instrument cluster goes blank while i'm driving, it becomes a hazard to me and my family. i have contacted chrysler, but i have only received an automated reply. they are not helping me with this serious issue. i've searched the internet with people who have had similar problems, and the solutions range from bad fuses, to corrosion in the connectors, relays, etc. i don't want to take this in to westgate as they appear useless and don't want to do any detective work. please help me remedy this serious electrical issue. *jb

2005 jeep grand cherokee purchased brand new. vehicle stalls while making sharp left turn (1st occurrence). this left me with no control of the vehicle. in march of 2006, vehicle stalled while making same left turn. took vehicle to dealer for diagnosis and repair. dealer could not find a problem and was told to "bring it back if it happens again". on 11/14/06, vehicle stalled while driving straight. again i had no control of vehicle. returned to dealer, vehicle was inspected by mechanic and regional manager. called by service manager and was told "vehicle will not duplicate problem, come and pick up vehicle, car rental will not be covered at this point". told him i will not pick it up until something is done to correct this problem. i am very uncomfortable putting my family in this car, it's too unpredictable. i was then told it's out of his hands, it's a manufacture problem. contact chrysler direct. i have contacted chrysler and filed a formal complaint. i was given a reference number and was told i would be contacted in 3 business days. i realized this was right around thanksgiving holiday and a lot of people are on vacation. the following week i contacted chrysler and was told my file is with the dealer and they should be contacting me to arrange an "exit strategy" . my husband was present when the service manager called the regional manager via cell and overheard the regional manager state he knows nothing of the problem. he was then reminded that he inspected the vehicle in person on 11/17/06. the regional mangers comment was then "oh, that car, it's still there"? he then proceeded to say "this is just a case of buyers remorse, they are just trying to get out of the vehicle". i am still waiting on a response from someone. *jb

dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph through an intersection on normal road conditions, the engine stalled and could not be restarted. there were no warning lights prior to the incident. the vehicle was towed to the dealership, who diagnosed a fuel pump and fuel injection pump failure, both were replaced. after this incident, the vehicle presented transmission problems. the contact noticed a loss of power while driving 65 mph on a highway. intermittently, the transmission made noise when shifted to second gear. the vehicle had been taken to the dealership 20 times, however no error codes identified the defect. in one of the incidents, the yellow malfunction light illuminated and the dealership identified the defect as the computer control module and the driver shaft, both were replaced, however the transmission problem persisted. the dealership determined the vehicle could not be repaired. the manufacturer was contacted who recommended to take the vehicle to a different dealership. *ak the vehicle was not downshifting when going up hills and it would get stuck in second or third gear. the a/c and blower motor were inoperative, the dealer could not duplicate the consumers concern. the key became stuck in the ignition. all the dashboard lights were flashing, the cd player was broke. the brakes and rotors vibrated. the starter was replaced. the driveshaft and heater were replaced. the seats would not move back. the seat belts did not retract as they should. updated 01/17/07. *jb updated
